  • In the 21st century, universal design has started to expand as new design value system for the diversity and various need of user: a new design that can reflects the welfare of the society. In addition, the percentage of population over 65 years old has been rising rapidly in Korea, and we are expected to reach 'aged society' with 14.3% of elderly population in 2018. In rural districts, population of the elderly has already reached 'super-aged society' with over 20%. With the rapid increase of the number of the elderly, the need for social service system is rising. For the independent living of the elderly, the dwelling space that supports their lifestyle is the most important factor. In advanced countries, they have proposed the housing for the elderly to keep living in their house, improvement of housing quality that fits the changing various needs of them. Until now, however, the most housing condition that the elderly has lived is poor living environment as below housing standards, especially housing in rural districts is very poor. The purpose of this study was to extract issue of housing in the rural districts in terms of universal design concept and reflecting the cultural and living characteristics of rural districts. With this, additionally, this study make understood about the necessity and important of universal design housing to reflect the characteristics of rural districts. For this study, data were collected from field survey and interview. The major results showed the following. 1) There were very various type of housing in rural districts. Spatial composition and shape was not related to living behavior and cultural characteristics of rural district. 2) The most new constructed housing was similar to urban housing type. It means that housing with respect to living culture of users in rural district must be developed. 3) In rural housing, they all had outdoor building (included storehouse, bathroom/toilet, kitchenet, etc.) relating to a series of work behavior. However, living environment was not to meet needs and characteristics of users.

  • This study was conducted to describe disease characteristics, psycho-social factors and treatment behavior of patients with lupus and to analyze relationships anions these variables. The subjects were consisted of 120 lupus patients at G university hospital in Seoul. Data were collected by means of structured interview with questionnaires, and analyzed by using frequencies, $x^2$test, t-test, ANOVA, and correlation. The results were as follows; 1. The average age of the subjects was 31.34 years and average duration of suffering lupus was about 7.3years. Severity of symptoms was moderate and the disturbance of living activities was at the very low level. 2. Self-efficacy score of lupus patients was high, and life satisfaction was at moderate level. 3. Dosage for most of the subjects was about twice a day. 16.7% of them took non-prescribed medicine and only 27.5% perform exercise. 4. Positive correlation was shown among symptom, discomfort of living activities, self-efficacy and life satisfaction, while there was negative correlation among symptom and self-efficacy, symptom and life satisfaction, discomfort of living activities and self-efficacy, and discomfort of living activities and life satisfaction. In addition, exercise showed significant relationship with discomfort of living activities, and non-prescribed medicine showed significant relationship with discomfort of living activities and self-efficacy. These results show that lupus is a chronic disease of long suffering duration among young people. Severity of the symptom was at modest level, while discomfort of living activities were relatively insignificant. However self-efficacy was relatively high. Furthermore self-efficacy has influences on symptom and discomfort of life activities, just as exercise affects discomfort of life activities. Therefore it is required to examine further measures for continuous exercise.

  • With population growth and quality of life improvement, household energy use also has increased. Under this circumstances, consumers are increasingly required to seek for efficient ways of energy saving. However, precedent studies have largely overlooked energy consumers' consumption behavior, and particularly little research has been conducted on energy consumption or saving patterns of residents living in apartments, which account for over 50% of the Korean housing market. Therefore, this study examined apartment residents' energy use behavior according to apartment residents' characteristics in order to efficient energy use and management. To this examination, survey was conducted of housewives living in apartments in Busan, and 403 data were analyzed by the SPSS WIN 12.0 program. With respect to their energy behavior according to characteristics of subjects, it was different depending on income, housing size, age, the length of residence, and the education standard. When higher income group and larger housing size group, residents were not doing 'passive saving' and 'comfort oriented.' When younger, they were 'comfort oriented.' When well-educated, they were 'comfort oriented.' Also, with regard to the length of residence, significant difference was found. The results of this study can be utilized as effective guidelines in efficient management, policy making, and education method reflecting energy use behavior of energy users.

  • The study aimed to investigate the effects of climate adaptability and physical activity adherence on clothing behavior and health perception. Total usable questionnaires were obtained from 352 university students(126 male & 226 female students). Results were gained from the statistical analysis such as factor analysis, cluster analysis, ANOVA, t-test using SPSS 19.0. The results were as follows. First, male students showed higher figures than female students in physical activity adherence, cold adaptability, and health perception but vice versa in clothing behaviors related to the seasons, weather forecasts and the situation. Second, the group which had good physical activity adherence showed adequate clothing behaviors and fine health perception, which meant proper relations between exercise, clothing behavior, and health. Finally, the group which had lower climate adaptability but adequate clothing behavior according to the season showed a fine health perception. The relation between clothing behavior and health perception was checked through this.
