The aim of this study was to understand the management level of pathogenic bacteria in HACCP system implemented animal farms. Microbial samples were collected from manure, floor, compost depot, manure on belt, low milk tank, dust in laying house and egg collector in HACCP system implemented Korean beef cattle, dairy cattle, swine, and laying Hens farms. O157, O111 and O26 strains of E. coli were not detected in HACCP system implemented Korean beef cattle farm. The detection rate of E. coli from manure and floor in HACCP system implemented cattle farms (Korean beef cattle and dairy farm) was lower than those of non-HACCP system implemented cattle farm. Salmonella spp. was detected in HACCP system implemented cattle farms (Korean beef cattle and dairy farm). Compared with pervious studies, lower detection rate of Salmonella spp. at floor and compost depot in HACCP system implemented swine and commercial layer farms were indicated. In conclusion, implementation of HACCP system in animal farms would enhance the management level of biological hazard compare to normal animal farms.

Current food sanitation systems for meat and livestock in Australia ar underpinned by HACCP-based quality assurance. HACCP-based quality assurance programs have been implemented by all australian red meat industry sectors, from 'farm-to-fork'. These quality assurance programs are (along with other quality and food safety considerations) the collection of a series of sanitation steps and strategies that aim to ensure that only healthy, clean livestock are presented for slaughter; those healthy, clean animals enter a clean processing plant; contact of carcase surfaces with potential sources of contamination is avoided; carcase surfaces are decontaminated before chilling; and subsequent growth of potential contaminants is avoided. Prospects for food sanitation systems for meat and livestock in Australia lie largely in enhancing current and applying new sanitation strategies and procedures within our HACCP-based quality assurance framework. Prospects include increased focus on actual (Versus perceived) risks; on-farm/feedlot pathogen elimination; increased implementation of existing (or new) decontamination technologies; and an improved cold chain.
Fast response to livestock disease and raising the reproductive success rate contribute to the improvement of farm productivity and profit margins. Due to the decrease in farm workforce and aging population, efficient livestock healthcare and breeding management are needed. In this study, we developed a mobile application for livestock healthcare and breeding management based on the collected body temperature data by IoT sensors. In case of livestock health problem, users are notified immediately via a mobile application warning message. It also provides users with a livestock breeding date function, allowing them to respond without missing the breeding season.

The surroundings of livestock farms, including dairy farms, are known to be a major source of development and transmission of antibiotic-resistant bacteria. To control antibioticresistant bacteria in the livestock breeding environment, farms have installed livestock wastewater treatment facilities to treat wastewater before discharging the final effluent in nearby rivers or streams. These facilities have been known to serve as hotspots for inter-bacterial antibiotic-resistance gene transfer and extensively antibiotic-resistant bacteria, owing to the accumulation of various antibiotic-resistant bacteria from the livestock breeding environment. This review discusses antibiotic usage in livestock farming, including dairy farms, livestock wastewater treatment plants as hotspots for antibiotic resistant bacteria, and nonenteric gram-negative bacteria from wastewater treatment plants, and previous findings in literature.
This study aimed to quantify the impact of crossbreeding at farm level, in mixed farm systems in Gujarat. Households with crossbred cattle did not differ from households without crossbreds in terms of farm resources, crop gross margins and off-farm income. The use of crossbred animals did increase livestock gross margins by 64% and household income by 22%. The three agro-ecological zones included in this study differed considerably according to farm system and household income. However, in all three zones, households with crossbreds had higher livestock gross margins than households without crossbreds. There was no real difference in work load and labour division between households with and without crossbreds. There was also no difference in the use of bullocks for draught purposes between the two types of households. In particular buffaloes are being replaced by crossbred cattle. There was a large variation in farm income, largely because of land area. The milk offake per average cow and the number of buffaloes also related positively to farm income in both types of households. Crossbreeding has proved technically and financially viable in different Gujarat mixed farming systems. It can be concluded that crossbreeding is an important development option for landless farmers.

The smart farm for livestock, in which information and communication technology (ICT) is combined with livestock farm, is mostly based on the cloud computing paradigm. A cloud-based smart livestock farm has disadvantages such as increased response time, burden on cloud resource caused by the increased number of IoT sensors, traffic burden on the network, and lack of failure resilience mechanisms through collaboration with adjacent IoT devices. In this paper, with these problems in mind, we propose an IoT collaboration system based on edge computing. By using the relatively limited computing resources of the edge device to share the cloud's web server function, we aim to reduce the cloud's resources needed and improve response time to user requests. In addition, through the heartbeat-based failure recovery mechanism, IoT device failures were detected and appropriate measures were taken.
Data on productive and reporductive performance of native cows maintained at Savar Dairy Farm, Central Cattle Breeding Station (CCBS), Savar, Dhaka, were collected from the periods of 1980-1988. The mean calving to first breeding during the second parity was longer (p < 0.01) than the fourth and fifth parities (152 vs 105 and 96 days respectively). There was no difference on the parameters like first breeding to conception, service period, gestation length, number of services per conception and total milk yield over the parities. The mean calving interval during the second parity was longer (p < 0.05) than the fourth and fifth parities. The mean lactation length during the first parity was longer (p < 0.01) than those of second, third, fourth and fifth lactations (317 vs 237, 266, 250 and 247 days respectively). The mean per day milk yield during the first lactation was lower (p < 0.01) than those of second, third, fourth and fifth lactations (1.88 vs 2.55, 2.75, 2.54 and 2.57 kg respectively). The mean dry period was longer in first lactation (p < 0.05) compared to third and fifth lactations (209 vs 141 and 129 days respectively).
Two genetic constructs used to confer improved agronomic characteristics, namely herbicide tolerance (HT) in maize and soyabean and insect resistance (Bt) in maize, are considered in respect of feeding to farm livestock, animal performance and the nutritional value and safety of animal products. A review of nucleic acid (DNA) and protein digestion in farm livestock concludes that the frequency of intact transgenic DNA and proteins of GM and non-GM crops being absorbed is minimal/non existent, although there is some evidence of the presence of short fragments of rubisco DNA of non-GM soya in animal tissues. It has been established that feed processing (especially heat) prior to feeding causes significant disruption of plant DNA. Studies with ruminant and non-ruminant farm livestock offered GM feeds demonstrated that animal performance and product composition are unaffected and that there is no evidence of transgenic DNA or proteins of current GM in the products of animals consuming such feeds. On this evidence, current HT and Bt constructs represent no threat to the health of animals, or humans consuming the products of such animals. However as new GM constructs become available it will be necessary to subject these to rigorous evaluation.
The emergence of highly contagious viral diseases of livestock and poultry such as foot-and-mouth disease (FMD), African swine fever (ASF) and highly pathogenic influenza (HPAI) have necessitated the formulation of policies and regulatory frameworks for preventing ingress of exotic diseases and controlling dissemination of endemic diseases within the country. The disease control ratings to manage contagious livestock disease in farms have not being widely used because the evaluation parameters were not being considered inappropriate. The purpose of this study was to reinforce the validity of the parameters for evaluation factors and the objectivity of the scoring criteria in the application of the current disease management rating system. The diseases subject to intensive management were improved by reflecting farm situation. For the evaluation based on the disease grading system of farms, the diseases subject to intensive management were realized, the list of diseases for evaluating the vaccination rate was revised, and the quarantine and sanitation management standards were revised. The effectiveness of the improved livestock disease management system was confirmed through the application of actual pig farms. Therefore, this system will be used as a means to evaluation the biosecurity at the farm units. Through this, it will contribute to establish effective biosecurity measures for each farm by improving and supplementing the present disease grading system.

This is a case report on the occurrence of caprine arthritis-encephalitis (CAE) disease among dairy goats in a local farm located in Yeongdong-gun, Chungbuk. Previously, it was reported that the farm experienced intermittent deaths numbering 15 of the 97 goats raised for 5 months. Most of the goats less than 6 months of age were suffering from ataxia and posterior paresis, body tremor and abnormal head posterior. Affected animals frequently had stunted growth and had a rough coat. Goats more than 6 months of age were affected with an insidious, chronic arthritis characterized by articular swelling ('big knee') of the carpal, hock, and stifle joints. Necropsy revealed severely swollen mesenteric lymph nodes, under- flow of 2-3ml synovial fluid in the articular space and fibrous proliferation of synovial membrane. Histopathological examination showed perivascular accumulations of mononuclear inflammatory cells in the white matter of the brain, proliferative synovitis characterized by villous hypertrophy, synovial cell hyperplasia and infiltration by mononuclear inflammatory cells. Pulmonary lesions consists of patchy interstitial pneumonia with hyperplasia of lymphoid tissues and an extensive mononuclear inflammatory cell infiltration into the alveolar septa. Confirmation by nested PCR involves amplification of a 296 bp (lst PCR) and 184 bp (2nd PCR) fragments corresponding to the gag region of the CAE virus. This is the first time CAE has been reported in a local farm in Korea and emphasizes the importances of developing preventive measures against CAE.
