  • The purpose of this study is introducing the extension in American family and consumer sciences and making the implications from it to apply in Korea. The study was conducted using literatures, interviews with the extension relates and visiting extension offices in America. The main contents for the introduction consist of the history, organizations, funds, programs, and extension agents in American extension. The practical and cooperative characteristics, volunteerism, the attitude of agents and in-services for them are suggested for the application of American cooperative extension system to Korea.

  • The purpose of this study is to review Korean sacrificial rite and reform it to be fit for modern life, the research method is to review literatures such as ancient writings and various references for the sacrificial rite. The new model of Korean sacrificial rite is as follows; 1. New year's and chusok's sacrificial rite should be omitted and only the anniversary rite be left. 2. Time of anniversary rite should be convenient hour that all attendants can meet and the extent of attendants should be limited into the deads sons & daughters. 3. Subject of anniversary rite should be limited into the parents. 4. Foods and liquor offered to the dead should be omitted 5. Supervisor of sacrificial rite should be not only the eldest son but also dead's sons and daughters, so the anniversary rite should be rotated among brothers and sisters.

  • Objective: We got good effect on one patient who was diagnosed One-and-a-half Syndrome. We report this case with a brief review of related literatures. Method : In the point of Differentiation of Syndrome, these subjects were diagnosed as Giheo(氣虛). We treated her with acupuncture and herbal medication(Bojungiki-tang: 補中益氣湯) Result & Conclusion : Symptoms of the patient on this report were improved after above treatment. this case showed oriental medicine enough could be applied on this disease as one of conservative therapies

  • This work presents the experimental and FEM results for the free vibration of cantilevered, symmetrically and antisymmetrically laminated composite rectangular plates. The natural frequencies, mode shapes and contour plots of a number of CFRP, GFRP, DFRP-Aluminum, GFRP-Aluminum and DFRP-GFRP hybrid composite plates are experimentally obtained. Determination of Young's modulus and test procedures are described. The natural frequencies are determined for a wide range of parameters : e.g. , composite material constants, fiber angles and stacking sequences. Natural frequency and nondimensional frequency parameter results are compared with the finite element analysis and existing literatures. Agreement between experimental and calculated frequencies is excellent. The effects of varing the parameters upon the free vibration frequencies and mode shapes are discussed.

  • This study aims to explore the potentials of System Dynamics as a tool to understand the community welfare practice by paying attention to the strengths of System Dynamics to complement the weaknesses of the theories and studies of the community welfare practice. The contents of this study are as follows. First, it draws the limitations of its theories and studies by reviewing the literatures related. Second, it outlines the characteristics of the community welfare practice process as well as the strengths of System Dynamics as a tool to understand the community welfare practice. Third, it presents a causal loop model of System Dynamics applied to the community welfare practice process. Lastly, it concludes with the suggestions and implications of the key research findings. This study is expected to be a basic study to highlight the potentials of System Dynamics as a tool to understand the community welfare practice.

  • Primary hyperparathyroidism is rare disease entity which secretes parathyroid hormone in excessively resulting in hypercalcemia. It involves skeletal system, urinary tract, gastrointestinal tract, and central nervous system. Recently the determination of the serum calcium and parathyroid hormone level has become a routine laboratory test and the localization of involved gland by neck ultrasonogram and parathyroid gland substraction scan has reduced operative complications. For the purpose of improvement of diagnosis and treatment, the authors analyzed the clinical characteristics of 6 cases of primary hyperparathyroidism(adenoma 5 cases, carcinoma 1 case) during 10 years and report with literatures.

  • Although regional and myocutaneous flaps are still the standard in head and neck reconstruction. The capacity to transfer distant tissues by microsurgical technique expands the reconstructive surgeon's ability to restore severe deformities of the head and neck. From 1981 to 1985, thirteen patients with extensive defects of the head and neck after extirpative surgery of tumor have been reconstructed utilizing the technique of microsurgical composite tissue transplantation. In this series of patients, six presented with reconstructions in the different region of the head and neck with review of literatures. The results of case analysis are summarized as follows: 1) Transplantation was successful in twelve among thirteen patients (92%). 2) Seven patients presented with malignancy and six with benign tumor. 3) Frequent sites of reconstruction were face and mandible. 4) Fourteen free composite tissue transplantations for reconstruction of thirteen patients were obtained six different tissue compositions from eight different donor sites. 5) The recipient artery and vein was most often superficial temporal or facial vessels. 6) The average time of operation was ten hours.

  • Benign symmetric lipomatosis, also known as Madelung's disease, Launois-Bensaude syndrome and multiple symmetric lipomatosis is a cutaneous condition characterized by extensive symmetric fat deposits in the neck, shoulders, and upper trunk. But symmetrical lipomatosis of the tongue is very rare and characterized by involvement exclusively of the tongue, invasiveness, and absence of encapsulation of the adipose tissue. A 75-year-old man presented with about a year history of painless tongue masses on both lateral border. Bilateral partial glossectomy was performed and subsequently was confirmed as symmetrical lipomatosis pathologically. We report this case with a review of the literatures.

  • Cystadenocarcinoma of salivary gland is an rare, slow-growing, low-grade malignant neoplasm characterized by cysts and papillary endocystic projections. Major locations of this tumor are parotid glands, and minor salivary glands, while occurrence in submandibular gland is extremely rare. Only few cases have been reported in the literatures. Cystadenicarcinoma behaves in an indolent manner and recurrence is rarely occured, surgical complete excision is considered treatment of choice. We experienced a case of cystadenocarcinoma arising from submandibular gland, so we report this case with a review of literature.

  • Small cell carcinoma is mainly found in the lungs and extrapulmonary origins of small cell carcinoma in GI tract, head and neck, genitourinary system consists only 4% of the tumor. Thus, small cell carcinoma of the parotid gland is an extremely rare disease. Extrapulmonary small cell carcinoma is characterized by an aggressive clinical course with early metastasis. We report a case of small cell carcinoma of parotid gland in a 82-year-old woman with painless neck mass, who was managed with radiation therapy after surgery and review of relevant literatures.
