Bronchogenic cysts are congenital and uncommon lesions which are derived from primitive forgut and usually found within the lung or mediastinum. The increased use of roentgenograms of the thorax and the widening scope of thoracic surgery, many more cases of bronchogenic cysts are being observed. Three cases of bronchogenic cysts operated in the department of thoracic surgery, C.A.F.G.H., are reported and the related literatures are reviewed.

Small cell carcinoma is a highly malignant esophageal tumor composed of anaplastic small cells with features very similar to those of its pulmonary counterpart. The prognosis is poorer than that of squamous carcinoma of the esophagus because of its propensity of generalized spread and metastasis. Once the diagnosis of small cell carcinoma was established, surgery should be undertaken as early as possible. We have described an experience of small cell carcinoma of the lower esophagus in a 72 year old male patient with a review of the literatures regarding treatment methods and prognosis.

This paper examines some syntactic and semantic properties of the negative construction V+bo NP (VbN) in Taiwanese Southern Min (TSM). It finds out that there are ambiguities between an episode reading and a generic reading in VbN construction which require further investigations and explanations. Therefore, the goal of this paper is to account for the ambiguities lying in the negative VbN construction.

Total fourty-four medicinal plants described in old literatures to be hepatotonic were evaluated their potential hepatotonic activities against an animal model of hepatitis. Tweenty-seven plants extracts appeared to be significant hepatotonic activities, whereas twelve plants extracts exhibited rather some toxicity. And five plants extracts showed no significant hapatotonic activities and toxicity.

The intrapulmonary teratoma is an extremely tumor. This paper reports a case of int-rapulmonary teratoma located in the right upper and middle lobes of the lung in a 16-years-old male patient. The initial symptoms were right chest pain and coughing. Chest X-ray revealed huge soft tissue mass density in the right lower lung field. Right upper and middle lobectomy with resection of invaded pericardium was done. The gross and microscopic findings of res-ected specimen revealed characteristic findings of the intrapulmonary teratoma. The patient was recovered uneventually. We would like to describe this case of rare tumor with the review of literatures.

The bronchogenic cyst, one of rare congenital cystic disease, was reported occasionally since the first description of Bartholinus in 1678. The increased use of roentgenograms of the thorax and the widening scope of thoracic surgery was made, and much more cases of bronchogenic cysts has been observed. The most common location of a mediastinal bronchogenic cyst was the hilum. The treatment for bronchogenic cyst is surgical resection. Forty eight cases of bronchogenic cysts which were pathologically confirmed, are reported and the related literatures are reviewed.

Giant cell tumor rarely occurs in ribs. Usually it is located in the posterior arc. We reported a very rare case of primary giant cell tumor of rib in the anterior arc with review of literatures.

Pneumothorax after needle electromyography is a rare complication, which usually associated with examination of diaphragmatic and intercostal muscles. However, by the literatures, it can also occur with supraspinatus, serratus anterior and paraspinal muscles. We experienced a case of pneumothorax after cervical paraspinal muscle needle electromyography. From the anatomical vulnerability of pneumothorax during needle insertion, we emphasized the importance of avoiding this complication.
