  • A liquid chromatography mass spectrometry (LC-MS) system was used to identify and distinguish oligostilbene diastereoisomers. A polyphenolic extract from Neobalanocarpus heimii known to be rich in oligostilbenes of various degrees of condensation was used as test material. Fourteen oligostilbenes were isolated from this extract on a fully automated semi-preparative HPLC system. Out of these, two pairs of dimers, one pair of trimers, two pairs of tetramers and a group of four tetramers with similar skeleton were identified as diastereoisomers. Their structures and configurations were established by spectroscopic methods. All isolated compounds were subjected to an LC-MS/MS to study their fragmentation patterns. The experiments were performed on a liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) with electrospray-ionization (ESI) interface in positive mode. MS/MS spectra of each pure compound were recorded by direct infusion in identical conditions and their product ion spectra were analysed. Some subtle yet significant differences were observed between the spectra of oligostilbenes from the various diastereoisomeric series.

  • Recently in the construction industry, industrial by-product admixtures like blast-furnace slag fine particles (BS henceforth) are being used as binding material, reducing the use of cement, and measures to reduce CO2 emissions are being examined on various levels. However, the BS being used domestically varies depending on the origin of resources, and by circulating BS that is inappropriate to the KS standard, problems are occurring in terms of changes and declines in the quality of concrete which uses it. Therefore in this study the liquid densimeter principle was used to assess various BS fineness qualities; with 100 g/L fixed, a 1,000cc mass cylinder was most appropriate for assessing the quality of cement fineness.

  • In this study, crude extract of the seagrass Zostera japonica, and its solvent-partitioned fractions were evaluated for their antioxidant activity. The crude extract was successively fractionated into n-hexane, 85% aqueous methanol (85% aq.MeOH), n-butanol (n-BuOH), and water fractions by liquid-liquid partition. These include DPPH radical scavenging, hydroxyl radical scavenging in HT-1080 cells, peroxynitrite scavenging, and protective effect on DNA damage caused by hydroxyl radicals generated. In all assays, except for DPPH radical, 85% aq.MeOH and n-BuOH fraction showed the strong antioxidant activity. These results suggest that Z. japonica may be used as a potential source of natural antioxidants for the development of cosmetic product or functional food in the future.

  • In the process of manufacturing acrylonitrile, azeotrope of water-acetonitrile is formed as by-product. To1uene-ethylacetate mixture was selected as solvent to determine the liquid-liquid equilibria for to1uene(l)-water(2)-acetomtrile(3)-ethyjacetate(4) system. The experimental he-line data were correlated with the UNIFAC model. The distribution and selectivity for quaternary system was also studied.

  • The content of chiisanoside in the Acanthopanax Species was determined by reversed-phase high performance liquid chromatographic method. Chiisanoside was separated from the other components in the plant extracts using Zorbax 300 SB $C_{18}$ column with gradient elution of acetonitrile. Identification of chiisanoside was carried out by comparison in the LC/MS spectrum of separated peak from extract with that of standard. By HPLC analysis in this experiment, Acanthopanax species could be classified into two groups based upon the content of chiisanoside-one with low concentration of chiisanoside, such as A. senticosus and A. koreanum, and another with high concentration of chiisanoside, such as A. senticosus f. inermis, A. Divaricatus var. albeofructus, and A. chiisanensis.

  • In executing the large scale national project, such as development of space launch vehicle, it is most important to guarantee the technological reliability. However the reliability analysis of launch vehicle is different from other mass product goods because of the limitation of budget and number of tests. In this study, the reliability analysis technique of the propulsion system, which is one of the major sub-systems of launch vehicle is illustrated and applied to the liquid rocket engine of KSR-III.

  • The effect of oxidation-reduction heating conditions on coating adherence of hot-dip galvanized steel containing silicon has beeninvestigated. The presence of a stbke sillicon oxide formed on the steel surface has been shown to be very detrimenal to proper wetting by liquid zinc. When the steel has more than the critical sillicon content neeled to from a stable external oxide, the use of oxidation-reduction method has been found successful in obtaining a good quality, coated product with excellence adhreence. This can be explained by the formation of an iron oxide. The iron oxrtion of the scale is reduced, leaving the stable oxides dispersed in a fresh metallic iron surface layer. This reduced iron surface is easily wetted by the liquid zinc and excellent adherence is obtained.

  • Washed mycelia of Aspergillus nidulans FGSC159 were incubated in CMC minimal liquid medium and the culture filtrate which contained induced extracellular cellulase was fractionated by a three-step procedure including chromatography on Bio-Gel P-150, chromatography on DEAE-Sephadex A-50 and chromatography on Sephadex G-100. Three CMCase components ; F-I-Ia, F-I-Ib and F-II-Ia were prepared. No enzyme activity toward avicel could be detected in these components. Similarly, there was no ${\beta}-glucosidase$ activity. pH-optima of the three components were all 5.0 in acetate buffer. Temperature-optima for the activities of F-I-Ia, F-Ib and F-II-Ia were $45^{\circ}C,\;40^{\circ}C\;and\;50^{\circ}C$, respectively. F-II-Ia was shown to be more thermostable than the other two components. F-II-Ia was proved to have quite a different substrate specificity and action property and action property from those of F-I-Ia and F-I-Ib by product analysis on liquid chromatography.

  • The synthesis of nano-size ($Y_{0.955}Eu_{0.1}$)($P_{0.7}V_{0.45}$)$O_4$ red phosphors were conducted by using a Liquid Phase Precursor (LPP) method. In this method, cellulose pulp was used as a template showing the micro fibre structures to obtain the nano size YPV red phosphor. Aqueous solutions of raw materials were impregnated into cellulose pulp and subsequently impregnated pulp was dried and fired at $800-1200^{\circ}C$ for 1h. The effect of luminescence properties on compositions and temperatures was evaluated with photoluminescence spectrum, X-ray diffraction and FE-SEM, and TEM. High efficiency (~110%) of phosphor of size of ~500nm fired at $1150^{\circ}C$ was obtained compared with the micro size of commercial product. High efficiency behaviors of nano size phosphors were discussed in this paper.
