Disposal of hazardous ions in the aqueous streams is a significant industrial waste problem.. Waste streams from electronics, electroplating, and photographic industries contain metal ions such as copper, nickel, zinc, chromium(IV), cadmium, aluminum, silver, and gold, amongst others in various aqueous solutions such as sulfates, chlorides, fluorocarbons, and cyanides. Typical plating solutions having similar compositions are listed in Table 1. Spent process streams in catalyst manufacturing facilities also contain precious metals such as Ag, Pt, and Pd. Developing an effective recovery process of these metal ions for reuse is important.
For the purpose of development of a liquid membrane permeator which separates metal ions from aqueous solutions continuously and effectively, a continuous membrane permeator with the membrane solution trapped between extraction and stripping phases by two micro-porous hydrophilic films was manufactured. Experimental researches on the separation of zinc ion from aqueous solutions were performed in the liquid membrane permeator with 30 vol % D2EHPA solution in kerosine as liquid membrane. As results, the liquid membrane permeator separates zinc ion from aqueous solutions continuously and effectively in the wide range of operating conditions. A simple mass transfer rate model using equilibrium constant of the extraction reaction for the system used were proposed, and the model was compared with experimental results of separation of zinc ion in the permeator. And the effects of operating factors, such as space time, pH of extraction solution, extraction temperature, on the separation rate of zinc ion in the permeator were experimentally examined.
Liquid film thickness is measured by $moir\acute{e}$ topography which monitored liquid surface. $Moir\acute{e}$ fringe measurement techniques share the inherent simplicity found in optical interferometric techniques have the advantage of use over a greater range of displacement. $Moir\acute{e}$ fringe are the geometric interference patterns observed when two dense line grating are superposed. Light transmitted through a fixed line grating is deviated by the liquid film surface, producing a distored image of the grating. The $moir\acute{e}$ fringe produced by projection of this optically distored grating onto a second stationary grating permit visualization of the liquid surface and measurement of the liquid film thickness. This study measured the small amplitude of liquid film thickness to the $moir\acute{e}$ fringe pattern produced when spherical metal was dropped glycerin put)1 And the measurement of liquid film thickness flowing down an inclined plate are required to calculate the liquid slope in a position.
Result of this study indicate that two criteria must be met in order to have effective macrocycle-mediated transport in these emulsionsystem. First, one must effective extraction of the post transition metals, $Cd^{2+}$. $Pb^{2+}$ and $Hg^{2+}$ , into toluene membrane. The effectiveness of this extraction is greatest if log K values for the metal-macrocycle interaction is large. Second, the ratio of the log K values for the metal ion-receiving phase to the metal ion-macrocycle interaction must be large enough to ensure quantitative stripping of the metal ion at the toluene phase interface. Control of the first step can be obtained by appropriate selection of macrocycle donor atom, substituents, and cavity radius. The second step can be controlled by selecting the proper complexing agent for inclusion in the receiving phase. The order of the transport, when using the several $A^-$ species such as $SCN^-$, $1^-$, $Br^-$ and $Cl^-$ is the order of the changing degree of solvation for $A^-$ and the transport of the metals is also affected by the control of concentration for receiving species because of solubility-differences. In this study, we can seperate each single metal ion from the mixture of $Cd^{2+}$, $Pb^{2+}$, and $Hg^{2+}$ ions by using the toluene membranes controlled by optimized conditions. Transport of the single metal is also very good, and alkaline and alkaline earth metals as interferences ions did not affect the seperation of the metals in this macrocycle-liquid membrances but transition metal ions were partially affected as interferences for the post transition metal ions.

Measuring an exact amount of remaining cryogenic liquid propellant under microgravity condition is one of the important issues of rocket vehicle. A Pressure-Volume-Temperature (PVT) gauging method is attractive due to its minimal additional hardware and simple gauging process. In this paper, PVT gauging method using liquid nitrogen is investigated under microgravity condition with parabolic flight. A 9.2 litre metal cryogenic liquid storage tank containing approximately 30% of liquid nitrogen is pressurized by ambient temperature helium gas. During microgravity condition, the inside of the liquid tank becomes near-isothermal condition within 1 K difference indicated by 6 silicon diode sensors vertically distributed in the middle of the liquid tank. Helium injection with higher mass flow rate after 10 seconds of the waiting time results in successful measurements of helium partial pressure in the tank. Average liquid volume measurement error is within 11% of the whole liquid tank volume and standard deviation of errors is 11.9. As a result, the applicability of PVT gauging method to liquid propellant stored in space is proven with good measurement accuracy.

Metal casting is a process in which molten metal or liquid metal is poured into a mold made of sand, metal, or ceramic. The mold contains a cavity of the desired shape to form geometrically complex parts. The casting process is used to create complex shapes that are difficult to make using conventional manufacturing practices. For the optimal casting process design of sleeve parts, various analyses were performed in this study using commercial finite element analysis software. The simulation was focused on the behaviors of molten metal during the mold filling and solidification stages for the precision and sand casting products. This study developed high-life sleeve parts for the sink roll of continuous hot-dip galvanizing equipment by applying a wear-resistant alloy casting process.
SCR(Selective Catalytic Reduction) is a major after-treatment solution to reduce NOx emission in recent diesel engines. In this study, a metal foam is applied as an alternative SCR substrate and tested in a commercial diesel engine to compared with a conventional ceramic SCR system. Basic engine test from ND-13 mode shows that a metal foam catalyst has lower NOx conversion efficiency than a ceramic catalyst especially over $350^{\circ}C$. A metal foam catalyst has characteristics of high exhaust gas pressure before a SCR catalyst and high heat transfer rate due to its material and structure. NOx conversion efficiency of a metal foam catalyst shows an increasing tendency along with the increase of exhaust gas temperature by $500^{\circ}C$. The effect of urea injection quantity variation is also remarkable only at high exhaust gas temperature.

The forming process of metal matrix composites by the die casting and squeeze casting process are limited in size and dimension in term of final parts without machining. The thixoforming process for metal matrix composites has numerous advantages compared to die casting, squeeze casting and compocasting. The characteristics of thixoforming process can decrease the liquid segregation because of he improvement in fluidity in a globular microstructure state and utilizes flow without air entrapment. Therefore, in order to obtain the sound parts of metal matrix composites by using thixoforming process which as co-existing solidus-liquidus pahse, it si very important to obtain reheating condition. However, for he thixoforming process, the billet with the desired volume fraction must be heated to obtain a uniform temperature distribution over the entire cross-sectional areas. To obtain the reheating conditions of composites, the particulate reinforced metal matrix composites for thixoforming were fabricated by combined stirring process which is simultaneously performed with electro-magnetic stirring process which is simultaneously performed with electro-magnetic stirring and mechanical stirring process.
Production of biodiesel from soybean oil catalyzed by Lewis acidic ionic liquids(ILs) containing metal chloride salts was investigated in this study. Metal chloride salts, such as $SnCl_2$, $ZnCl_2$, $AlCl_3$, $FeCl_3$ and CuCl, were screened for oil transesterification in the range of 363-423 K. Among these metal chlorides, tin chloride showed particularly high catalytic property for the oil transesterification. Similarly, among these Lewis acidic ionic liquid catalysts, $[Me_3NC_2H_4OH]Cl-2SnCl_2$ resulted in a high fatty acid methyl esters(FAMEs) content of 91.1% under the following reaction conditions: 403 K, 14 h, and a molar ratio of 1:12:0.9 (oil:methanol:catalyst). Unlike the pure tin chloride catalysts, Lewis acidic ILs containing tin chloride $[Me_3NC_2H_4OH]Cl-2SnCl_2$ catalyst could be recycled up to five times without any significant loss of activity by separating from the FAMEs with simple decantation. The Lewis acidity and high moisture-stability of this catalyst appeared to be responsible for the excellent catalytic performance. The effects of reaction time and the molar ratio of methanol/catalyst to oil on the FAMEs production were also studied in this work.
The separation efficiency of metal ions by using the poly-NTOE(1, 12-diaza-3, 4:9, 10-dibenzo-5, 8-dioxacyclopentadeca-1, 12-ylene-2, 7-dihydroxyoctamethylene) has been determined by column chromatography in aqueous solution. Binding constants and separation factors for several poly-NTOE interactions were measured in aqueous solution. The order of these binding constants and separation factors with metal ions were Co(II)Zn(II) for the transition metal ions and Cd(II)
