In order to prevent roll-over and a rapid boil-off of LNG in tanks, the phase equilibria of carbon dioxide in liquefied natural gas components as binary mixtures at cryogenic temperatures have been experimentally measured using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy in conjunction with a specially designed variable pressure/temperature cryostat cell (pathlength 2 mm; pressures up to 30 bar). Solid carbon dioxide has been found to be comparatively soluble in liquid nitrogen (3.25$\times$${10}^{-6}$ mole fraction), liquid methane (1.04$\times$${10}^{-4}$ mole fraction), liquid ethane (3.1$\times$${10}^{-2}$ mole fraction) and liquid propane (6.11$\times$${10}^{-2}$ mole fraction) at their normal boiling temperatures. The solubilities of carbon dioxide in various cryogens, which increased with increasing temperature, are much lower than those obtained by others using gas chromatography. The differences are attributed to infrared spectroscopy selectively measuring dissolved solute in situ whereas gas chromatography measures microscopic particulate solid in addition to dissolved solute.
Natural gas is globally emerging as an important energy source for environmental, political and regional reasons. In Korea, natural gas imported from oversea natural gas resources as a LNG, it is increased for an applications as a fuel and feedstock which replace the coal and nuclear energy. Because it is relied on the import market in Korea, it is very important to analyze the security for supply. Therefore, this study suggested a method for reducing supply risk and for providing stable supply and demand through risk analysis of Korea's import structure. In order to reduce the supply risk, the concentration of importing countries should be lowered and it is necessary to lower the proportion of countries with relatively low GSSI and increase the imports from Russia. Finally increasing the number of importing countries or maintaining friendly relations with countries where the supply is stable could give us the positive impact in terms of total GSSI.
This paper provides the possibility of the district cooling system by using a LNG cold thermal energy. A liquefied natural gas provides a plenty of cooling source energy during a gasification of a liquefied natural gas. In recent, an ice thermal storage system is used for cooling a building, and a deep water source cooling system has been introduced as a district cooling system in which is used to cool the office towers and other large buildings in old and new downtown. LNG cooling energy refers to the reuse of a large body of naturally cold fluids as a heat sink for process and comfort space cooling as an alternative of conventional, refrigerant based cooling systems. Coincident with significant clean energy and operating cost savings, LNG cold energy cooling system offers radical reductions in air-borne pollutants and the release of environmentally harmful refrigerants in comparison to the conventional air-conditioning system. This study provides useful information on the basic design concepts, environmental considerations and performance related to the application of LNG cold thermal energy.
The consumption of liquefied natural gas (LNG) has increased annually due to the strengthening of international environmental regulations. In order to produce stable and efficient LNG, it is essential to divide the global (overall) operating condition and construct a quick and accurate monitoring system for each operation condition. In this study, multi-mode monitoring system is proposed to the LNG plant fractionation process. First, global normal operation data is divided to local (subdivide) normal operation data using global principal component analysis (PCA) and k-means clustering method. And then, the data to be analyzed were matched with the local normal mode. Finally, it is determined the state of process abnormality through the local PCA. The proposed method is applied to 45 fault case and it proved to be more than 5~10% efficient compared to the global PCA and univariate monitoring.

Natural gas is converted in to LNG by chilling and liquefying the gas to the temperature of $-162^{\circ}C$, when liquefied, the volume of natural gas is reduced to 1/600 of its standard volume. This gives LNG the advantage in transportation. In this study, the effects of the pressure drop of refrigerant and natural gas in the LNG heat exchanger of cryogenic cascade refrigeration cycle were investigated and then the design criteria for the pressure drop of refrigerant and natural gas of the LNG heat exchanger were proposed. The pressure drop of the cascade liquefaction cycle was investigated and simulated using HYSYS software. The simulation results showed that the pressure drop in the LNG heat exchanger is set to 50 kPa considering the increase in the compressor work and COP of cryogenic cascade liquefaction cycle.
Methane hydrate is crystalline ice-like compounds which formed methane gas enters within water molecules composed cavity at specially temperature and pressure condition, and water molecule and each other from physically-bond. $1m^3$ hydrate of pure methane can be decomposed to the maximum of $172m^3$ at standard condition. If these characteristics of hydrate are reversely utilized, natural gas is fixed into water in the form of hydrate solid. Therefore the hydrate is considered to be a great way to transport and store natural gas in large quantity. Especially the transportation cost is known to be 18~24% less than the liquefied transportation. However, when methane hydrate is formed artificially, the amount of consumed gas is relatively low due to a slow reaction rate between water and methane gas. In this study, for the better hydrate reaction rate, there is make nano fluid using ultrasonic dispersion of carbon nano tube. and then, Experiment with hydrate formation by nano fluid and methane gas reaction. The results show that when the carbon nano tubes of 0.004 wt% was added to pure water, the amount of consumed gas was about 300% higher than that in pure water and the hydrate formation time decreased.

Gas hydrate is formed by physical binding between water molecule and gas such as methane, ethane, propane, or carbon dioxide, etc., which is captured in the cavities of water molecule under the specific temperature and pressure. $1\;m^3$ hydrate of pure methane can be decomposed to the methane gas of $172\;m^3$ and water of $0.8\;m^3$ at standard condition. If this characteristic of hydrate is reversely utilized, natural gas is fixed into water in the form of hydrate solid. Therefore, the hydrate is considered to be a great way to transport and store of natural gas in large quantity. Especially the transportation cost is known to be 18~25% less than the liquefied transportation. However, when methane gas hydrate is artificially formed, its reaction time may be too long and the gas consumption in water becomes relatively low, because the reaction rate between water and gas is low. Therefore, for the practical purpose in the application, the present investigation focuses on the rapid production of hydrates and the increment of the amount of captured gas by adding zeolite into pure water. The results show that when the zeolite of 0.01 wt% was added to distilled water, the amount of captured gas during the formation of methane hydrate was about 4.5 times higher than that in distilled water, and the methane hydrate formation time decreased at the same subcooling temperature.
$1m^3$ hydrate of pure methane can be decomposed to the maximum of $216m^3$ methane at standard condition. If these characteristics of hydrate are reversely utilized, natural gas is fixed into water in the form of hydrate solid. Therefore, the hydrate is considered to be a great way to transport and store natural gas in large quantity. Especially the transportation cost is known to be 18-24% less than the liquefied transportation. In the present investigation, experiments and theoretical calculation carried out for the formation of methane hydrate in NaCl 3.5wt% solution. The results show that the equilibrium pressure in seawater is more higher than that in pure water, and methane hydrate could be formed rapidly during pressurization if the subcooling is maintained at 9K or above in seawater and 8K or above in pure water, respectively. Also, amount of consumed gas volume in pure water is more higher that in seawater at the same experimental conditions. Therefore, it is found that NaCl acts as a inhibitor.
Natural gas liquefaction process is essential to transport natural gas for long distances. Lots of compressors in this process are needed and the energy for these compressors can be supplied by drivers. Total driver cost can be changed by selecting various drivers. This study focused on the minimization of the driver cost to provide the energy to the compressors. Moreover, scenarios, extracting velocity is changed during whole operating period, are set with considering gas well capacity. The mathematical model was established by considering trade off relationship between the capital cost and the operating cost of the turbines. The model also considers the life time of the driver equipments. As the result, the driver cost of the optimized case was reduced by 6.4% than the base case.
The Korean government has tried to introduce pipeline natural gas from Russia, instead of liquefied natural gas from Middle East Asia since 1990s. While this energy cooperation in North East Asia has been discussed in real politics and academic societies, the previous studies have shown the limits on policy implication because they just suggest necessity and possess the problems of weak theoretical frameworks. Therefore, this study tries to analyze the motivations, conditions, and stages for energy cooperation in this region from the viewpoint of economic integration theory. As a result of analysis, these countries in North East Asia have only one motivation, namely economic interest. On the contrary, they have several conditions including real benefit, complementation in economic structures, and convergence in policy goals. In conclusion, this study suggests that low level cooperation such as preferential trade agreement in the field of natural gas is possible and necessary in North East Asia.
