  • The World Health Organization(WHO, 1998) and the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA, 1992) recommended $2{\mu}\;guranium/{\ell}$ in drinking water as a guideline. The Korea Institute for Environmental Research recently reported that the radioactive pollution in ground water was almost negligible In Korea$(1999\~2002)$. Cs were cast into beads(2mm in wet form) and treated with hexamethylene diisocyanate for stability in acidic aqueous solution through cross-linking of the beads surfaces. The removal study was carried out in a static batch system and a flow system. In the static system, a certain amount of sample water was confined in a vessel and beads(dry weight 0.5g) were packed into it in order to adsorb uranium for a certain period of time. Afterwards the remaining uranium in water vessel was determined by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry. The effective pH range was 4 to 8. The smaller the size of beads, the better the removal efficiency. Furthemore, the lower the flow rates, the higher the removal efficiency. The results showed that chitosan beads can be effectively used for the removal of uranium contained in water.

The Goddess Nana and the Kušan Empire: Mesopotamian and Iranian Traces

  • Nana was an important patron deity in the Kušan Empire and the most important deity worshipped by Emperor Kaniška (c. 127-150 CE). She was the head of the royal dynastic pantheon at this time. The cult of Nana may already have existed in Central Asia prior to the arrival of Indo-Iranians in the region, since she appears on a BMAC seal dating to the early second millennium BCE. Similarly, her cult in Bactria may pre-date her appearance in the Kušan pantheon by over two millennia. The spread of Nana's cult over such vast distances vividly illustrates the cultural connections (presumably stemming mostly from trade) that existed from prehistoric times linking the Mediterranean world to that of Central Asia and beyond, with the Iranian plateau at its center. The prevalence of Sogdian coins bearing Nana's name suggests that she was also the principal deity of Sogdiana. In Bactria, the goddess Ardoxšo (Avestan Aši vaŋvhī) was also worshipped by Kušāns and appeared on their coins. Nana, who was associated with war, fertility, wisdom, and water, was also equated with the Iranian goddesses Anāhitā, Aši, and Ārmaiti. The cult of Nana-Ārmaiti was widespread throughout eastern Iran.

항만공사제도의 효율적 운영방안 - 인천항만공사를 중심으로 - (Strategies for the Efficient Management of the Port Authority System in Korea: Focused on Incheon Port Authority)

  • In order to improve inefficient and unproductive factors and in response to criticisms of the failure in harbor privatization introduced in 1997, the Korean government introduced the Port Authority system, which is commonly adopted in advanced harbors in the world. This research examined the theoretical background of harbor management system and various cases of harbor management in foreign countries. The desirable introduction of Port Authority system must be preceded by the settlement of problems in harbor structure and operation. In addition, the Port Authority Act, which restricts the autonomy of harbor corporations, should be improved for user-centered Port Authority system. Strategies for the successful introduction of Incheon Port Authority are as follows. Firstly it is required to establish consumer-centered harbor operation system. The second requirement is to activate the harbor logistics industry through the development of nearby logistic complexes led by Port Authority and, by doing so, to promote the development of local economy. Thirdly it is essential to lay the foundation of mutual prosperity through developing profitable businesses by linking localities and harbors, and to suggest a crisis control network for Port Authority and local self-governing bodies to cope jointly with crises in logistics and natural disasters.

  • Below are the indications that cultural events in traditional Korean medicine nationwide give to the prospective 2013 DongUiBoGam World traditional Alternative Medicine Expo, especially to the se lection of the Expo's site. If the DongUiBoGam Expo is held as outdoor event, it can secure merits of current local council events' advantages: linking lived experiences to natural and historical resources. As in case of the EXOM and Hanghang EXPO that are held as indoor activivies in metropolitan area, if held the DongUiBoGam Expo can secure easily large-scale academic activities and health lectures. Thus, the key point for the DongUiBoGam Expo's success will he how to combine the good points of currently-held cultural outdoor and indoor activities in the field of traditional Korean medicine nationwide.

  • The 3-D shape use to effect of movie, animation, industrial design, medical treatment service, education, engineering etc... But it is not easy to make 3-D shape from the information of 2-D image. There are two methods in restoring 3-D video image through 2-D image; First the method of using a laser; Second, the method of acquiring 3-D image through stereo vision. Instead of doing two methods with many difficulties, I study the method of simple 3-D image in this research paper. We present here a simple and efficient method, called direct calibration, which does not require any equations at all. The direct calibration procedure builds a lookup table(LUT) linking image and 3-D coordinates by a real 3-D triangulation system. The LUT is built by measuring the image coordinates of a grid of known 3-D points, and recording both image and world coordinates for each point; the depth values of all other visible points are obtained by interpolation.

Registry Metadata Quality Assessment by the Example of re3data.org Schema

  • Nowadays, research data repositories (RDR) have become progressively widespread all over the world. To expand repository services and build up inbound linking strategy, organizations list their repositories with so called Global Registries. Accordingly, such registries should be carefully described by the related data. In this study, I explore the metadata schema of re3data.org. I collect and analyze descriptions from the listed repositories, and come up with some suggestions concerning possible improvements to the metadata schema. To accomplish this, I develop a crawler program, which collects necessary data from the re3data.org. Based on the analysis results, I have identified two issues that required elements is missing, one issue that required element value is missing when the corresponding property is applied, five inconsistency issues with re3data controlled vocabulary, six issues with undescribed optional elements, and two inconsistency issues between the elements and their attributes which do not pair with. I believe this discussion can facilitate improvements to the existing re3data.org schema and further help researchers who analyze data repository trends.

목걸이 제작에 있어서 Art Clay Silver활용에 관한 연구 (Application of Art Clay Silver in Manufacturing Necklace)

  • 세계적으로 대부분의 금속 공예가들은 장신구 작가라고 불려질 만큼 다른 공예 분야에 비해 산업적인 성격이 강하고 현대에 와서는 기능성 소재와 생산기술을 활용하는 경향이 강하다. 본 연구에서는 장신구 중 하나인 목걸이를 테마로 문헌을 조사하고 Art Clay Silver에 대한 재료적 특성을 분석하였다. 이때 조형체의 수축률은 약 0.24%이었다. 이렇게 상온에서 건조시 수축이 일어나는 현상은 결합제와 분말을 연결해주는 수분의 증발을 생각할 수 있다. Art Clay Silver를 소성 후 EDX를 이용하여 면 분석한 결과 은만이 100% 분석되었다. 이는 상온에서 분말과 함께 존재한 바인더가 높은 소성 온도에서 모두 연소되어 증기와 연기로 사라진 것으로 사료된다. 이러한 특성을 수공예 목걸이 제작 시 어렵고 섬세한 작업에 일부 활용함으로서 보다 자연스럽고 아름다움이 표현된 작품을 보여주고자 하였다.

Environmental Foreign Policy as a Soft Power Instrument: Cases of China and India

  • Joseph S. Nye defined soft power as the power of attraction to affect the behavior of other states through the use of non-coercive instruments including culture, political values and foreign policy. Over the last two decades, environmental issues have grown in importance on the international agenda and become critical components of states' foreign policy-making. This paper aims to analyze environmental foreign policy as a soft power instrument focusing on two major rising powers: China and India. Traditionally, China and India had been reluctant to make any commitments in the field. However, they have shown greater willingness to act in global environmental governance in the past decade. They started playing more active roles in global climate change negotiations and supported a number of initiatives. Their current rise in global environmental governance has even been praised by the international community as the Paris agreement case demonstrated. This study evaluates China's and India's recent efforts in global environmental governance with a focus on climate change negotiations linking their constructive position to their soft power potential. It is argued that environmental issues are used by these two states as foreign policy strategy to gain more influence in international politics. This study finds out that China's climate-related environmental diplomacy has been more ambitious than that of India and thus has been closer to fulfill its potential as a soft power asset.

방사선처리기술 최근 동향 (Recent Status and Progress of Radiation Processing in the World)

  • 방사선처리기술은 현재 멸균, 폴리머가교, 식품조사, 생고무가황 등 산업적으로 많은 곳에서 이용되고 있다. 현재 감마선과 전자선을 이용한 것은 방사선처리기술의 대표적인 기술이다. 이 논문의 목적은 최근의 방사선 기술을 이해하기 위해 외국의 방사선기술 동향을 살펴보고 산업현장 작업자가 방사선 관련 기술이 친숙해지기를 목적으로 그들에게 유용한 정보를 제공하기 위함이다. 본 조사를 통해 방사선이용기술이 지속적으로 성장함을 알 수 있었고, 또한 이 기술을 이용하면 제품의 다양성을 줄 수 있다는 사실도 알아냈다.

  • Because of today's rapid growth of digital contents market and many benefits of electronic book, many people have considerable interest in E-book. Furthermore multifarious consortiums take an active part in standardization of I-book, and many E-book tools have been provided by software manufactures all over the world. E-book tools include editor for production of E-Book, viewer for reading, and the like. Especially in E-book viewer, annotation function has to be Included to put arrangement, summation, recording, comment, emphasis and after comprehension to practical use. In this paper, a E-book viewer with annotation is designed according to the specifications of EBKS, Korean standard. The proposed viewer is aimed to implement in PDA with embedded Linux, but developed in Windows 2000 platform. Because development environment and application environment are different each other, Qt-Library and cross-compiler are used for cross-platform development. The viewer support various functions such as adjusting of font size, hypertext linking, retrieval of specific word, and so forth. And in addition to these basic functions, annotation function is designed for the viewer, which can be used for re-usage and sharing of important information.
