  • Statement of problem. Soft lining materials, also referred to as tissue conditioning materials, tissue heating materials, relining materials, soft liners or tissue conditioners, were first introduced to dentistry by a plastic manufacturer in 1959. Since the introduction of the materials to the dental field, their material properties have been continually improved through the effort of many researchers. Soft lining materials have become widely accepted, particularly by prosthodontists, because of their numerous clinical advantages and ease of manipulation. Unfortunately, few reports have been issued upon the topic of increasing the bond strength between the base metal alloy used in cast denture bases and PMMA soft liner modified with 4-META, nor upon the pattern of debonding and material change in wet environment like a intra oral situation. Purpose. The purposes of this study were comparing the bond strength between base metal alloy used for the cast denture bases and PMMA soft liner modified with 4-META, and describing the pattern of debonding and material property change in wet environment like the intraoral situation. Material and Methods. This study consisted of four experiments: 1. The in vitro measurement of shear bond strength of the adhesive soft liner. 2. The in vitro measurement of shear bond strength of the adhesive soft liner after 2 weeks of aging. 3. A comparison of debonding patterns. 4. An evaluation the Relation time of modified soft liner. The soft liner used in this study was commercially available as Coe-soft (GC America.IL.,USA), which is provided in forms of powder and liquid. This is a PMMA soft liner commonly used in dental clinics. The metal primer used in this study was 4-META containing primer packed in Meta fast denture base resin (Sun Medical Co., Osaka, Japan). The specimens were formed in a single lap joint desist which is useful for evaluating the apparent shear bond strength of adhesively bonded metal plate by tensile loading. Using the $20{\times}20mm$ transparent grid, percent area of adhesive soft liner remaining on the shear area was calculated to classify the debonding patterns. To evaluate the change of the initial flow of the modified adhesive soft liner, the gelation time was measured with an oscillating rheometer (Haake RS150W/ TC50, Haake Co., Germany). It was a stress control and parallel plate type with the diameter of 35mm. Conclusion. Within the conditions and limitations of this study, the following conclusions were drawn as follows. 1. There was significant increase of bond strength in the 5% 4-META, 10% 4-META containing groups and in the primer coated groups versus the control group(P<0.05). 2. After 2 weeks of aging, no significant increase in bond strength was found except for the group containing 10% 4-META (P<0.05). 3. The gelation times of the modified soft liner were 9.3 minutes for the 5% 4-META containing liner and 11.5 minutes for the 10% 4-META liner. 4. The debonding patterns of the 4-META containing group after 2 weeks of aging were similar to those of immediaely after preparation, but the debonding pattern of the primer group showed more adhesive failure after 2 weeks of aging.

  • Recently, waste water treatment system is developed in small and middle size to get more economic advantage. Freeze concentration system has high thermodynamic efficiency and low energy consumption, can re-use purified water and cold energy obtained from ice. This study was experimentally performed to investigate pollution containment in frozen layer by cooling wall temperature, air-bubble flow methods, initial ice-lining thickness of frozen layer in NaCl aqueous solution and the representative heavy metals, Pb and Cr aqueous solution. As the result, a decrease in the cooling wall temperature bring a higher growth rate of ice front and the more solute was involved in frozen layer. The method to inject directly air-bubble into ice-liquid interface through ring shape nozzle gave high purity of ice compared to indirect method. Ice lining in 5mm thickness resulted in frozen layer with higher purity than 1mm thickness.

  • Introduced was a new anti-corrosive method with improved ease of construction, economy, and durability that could be applicable for steel-composite drilled shaft. The feasibility and economy of sea-water-resistant steel was evaluated under the assumption that it was to substitute carbon steel for steel casing of drilled shaft foundation as a load carrying structural member not just as a sacrifice casing, and that anti-corrosive protection measures as required by the domestic standards was applied. Sea-water-resistant steel was found to cost 30% to 55% more, depending on pile diameter and the type of applied anti-corrosive measures, than carbon steel for the service life time of 70 years: 50% to 90% more for 100 years of service life.

  • The main reason for the heat induced accidents occurring at the after stern tube journal bearing is the excessive local pressure caused by the deflection of the propulsion shaft due to the propeller loads. It is expected that the contact area could beenlarged and the local pressure reduced accordingly by using a lining material having alow Young's modulus instead of the existing white metal. The purpose of this work is to investigate the characteristics of the pressure distribution and determine the allowable pressure value in the case where bearing products made of materials having a low Young's modulus are used. In this study, the propeller loads, heat effect, and hull deflection are considered in the evaluation of the local pressure of the ship propulsion shaft. Also, the Hertzian contact condition was applied. From the analysis results in the case where a lining material with a low Young's modulus was used, it was found that a robust design could be achieved and the local pressure could be reduced effectively independent of the load conditions. It will be possible to producenew products made of materials having a low Young's modulus if the manufacturer confirms the performance specifications drawn by this study.

  • Hollow cylindrical tubes with a prismatic sandwich lining designed to replace the solid cross-sections are studied in this paper. The sections are divided by a number of revolving periodic unit cells and three topologies of unit cells (Square, Triangle and Kagome) are proposed. Some types of multiple-topology designed materials are also studied. The feasibility and accuracy of a homogenization method for obtaining the equivalent parameters are investigated. As the curved elements of a unit cell are represented by straight elements in the method and the ratios of the lengths of the curved elements to the lengths of the straight elements vary with the changing number of unit cells, some errors may be introduced. The frequencies of the first five modes and responses of the complete and equivalent models under an internal static pressure and an internal step pressure are compared for investigating the scope of applications of the method. The lower bounds and upper bounds of the number of Square, Triangular and Kagome cells in the sections are obtained. It is shown that treating the multiple-topology designed materials as a separate-layer structure is more accurate than treating the structure as a whole.

  • The ancient paper document we chose as a case study for our research is "One Hundred Poets of the Tang Dynasty", which is housed in the Ryukoku University Library. The purpose of this research is to introduce a method to analyze the surface roughness and microstructure at a high resolution. In addition, we attempt to quantitatively measure the surface unevenness of the types and curve structure. We used a tridimensional digital microscopy as a non-contact and a non-destructive method to study ancient cultural paper. The information contained in the paper may be lost in the process of applying strong pressure to clean and lining or press. However, this microscopic measurement method can non-destructively analyze a large amount of data in old printed books. Moreover, it enables observing them directly with reflected light. Therefore, this method may be useful for collecting printed information remaining on the surface of the paper.

  • In the development of a cryogenic propellant tank, the proper selection of adhesives to bond composite and metal liner is important for the safety of operation. In this study, 3 types of adhesives were tested for the ability to bond CFRP composites developed for cryogenic use and aluminum alloy (Al 6061-T6) for lining the tank using double-lap joint specimens. The double-lap joint specimens were tested inside an environmental chamber at room temperature and cryogenic temperature ($-150^{\circ}C$) respectively to compare the bond strength of each adhesive and fracture characteristics. The material properties with temperature of component materials of double-lap joints were measured. In addition, ABAQUS was used for the purpose of analyzing the experimental results.

  • If the lost energy produced by a propeller can be partially recovered, the propulsive efficiency can be increased, and the fuel consumption reduced. The devices installed for this purpose are called Energy Saving Devices, of which the Contra-Rotating Propeller system is one of the most effective devices. The first problem to be solved to install the Contra-Rotating Propeller system on a large ship is that the mean pressure generated in the journal bearing needs to meet the design criteria of the classifications. In Korea, however, the practical use is being delayed because it cannot overcome this step. The next step is to lower local pressure to increase the reliability. In this study, to solve the mean pressure problem as the first step of practical use, a product carrier with a short stern shape was selected to reduce the weight of the shafting system, and a suitable shafting-system design plan was proposed. Shaft analysis confirmed that the mean pressure of 0.8 MPa (8 bar), which is a design criterion of the classifications for a journal bearing lining material (white metal), was satisfied. In addition, the necessity of reducing the local pressure was also confirmed.

  • It has been continuously noted that many sewage treatment concrete structures have deteriorated due to sulfur-oxidizing bacteria. There have been many reports on approaches to protecting concrete from this bacteria corrosion. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the inhibition of growth of a sulfur-oxidizing bacterium by a antifungal agent such as $NiSO_4{\cdot}6H_2O$, and the characteristics of polymer cement mortar using nickel type antifungal agent. First, we developed antifungal agents using metal nickel and $NiSO_4{\cdot}6H_2O$ to inhibit the growth of thiobacillus novellus, which is the sulfur-oxidizing bacteria in concrete. Then, ordinary cement mortar and polymer cement mortar using nickel type antifungal agent with various polymer-cement ratios, and antifungal agent content were prepared, and were tested for the antifungal adding effect, compressive and flexural strengths, expansion and leaching of nickel ion. From the test results, it was confirmed that the adding of an antifungal agent has an inhibition effect on the growth of sulfur-oxidizing bacteria at antifungal agent contents of 20 mM or more. In addition, the strengths and expansion of polymer cement mortars are not significantly changed by the addition of an antifungal agent. Therefore, the nickel-type antifungal agent developed in this study can be used to improve the durability of reinforced concrete hume pipe in the construction industry.
