등갑에 나타난 성장선에 근거한 멸종위기 종인 남생이(Mauremys reevesii)의 연령예측 가능성 평가 (The Possibility Assessment of Age Estimation of the Endangered Reeves' Turtle (Mauremys reevesii) Based on the Number of Growth Lines on Dorsal Scutes)

  • 멸종위기종 개체군의 연령구조를 파악하는 것은 개체군의 변동에 관한 정보를 제공할 수 있기 때문에 중요하다. 본 연구에서는 환경부 멸종위기종 II급과 문화재청 천연기념물로 지정되어 있는 남생이 (Mauremys reevesii)의 등갑에 나타나는 성장선으로 실제 연령을 신뢰성 있게 예측할 수 있는지를 평가하였다. 실험개체는 실 연령이 1-9살인 서울동물원에서 사육하는 100개체였다. 성장선은 중앙 추갑판 네 개와 좌우측 첫 번째 늑갑판에서 측정하였다. 연구결과 실 연령 1-5살까지는 성장선의 수가 실 연령보다 많았으나, 6-9살에는 성장선의 수가 실 연령보다 적었다. 실 연령과 성장선 연령을 비교 평가한 결과 성장선으로 실 연령을 예측하는 것은 6살 이하에서 제한적으로 가능한 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구에서 또한 어린 개체와 암컷 남생이들의 등갑의 길이와 너비를 이용하여 나이를 예측하는 수식을 제공하였으나 연구에 사용한 남생이들의 나이가 실 연령이 어린개체들이 대부분이어서 신뢰성 있는 연령예측은 가능하지 않았다. 종합하면, 등갑에 나타난 성장선을 이용하여 남생이의 실 연령의 예측하는 경우, 성장선 6개 이하는 성장선 수의 최소값을 7개부터는 최대값을 이용하는 것이 가능한 실 연령과의 편차를 줄 일 수 있음을 보여준다. 우리의 연구결과가 비록 제한적이기는 하지만, 국내에서 거북류의 성장선의 수를 이용하여 실 연령을 예측한 첫 번째 연구로, 야외에서 멸종위기종인 남생이의 연령을 평가할 때 유용하게 사용될 것으로 판단된다.

행성상 성운 NGC 6881의 운동학적 특성과 기하학적 구조 (Kinematics and Geometrical Structure of the Planetary Nebula NGC 6881)

  • 행성상성운 NGC 6881은 4극자형태를 이루고 있고 JET이 영상에 나타난다. Lick 천문대에 있는 Hamilton Echelle Spectrograph(HES)을 사용하여 관측한 가시광 영역의 방출선 스펙트럼의 선윤곽을 연구하였다. 우리가 연구하는 HES 분광 자료는 직경이 4초각인 영역의 안쪽에서 관측된 것이다. IRAF와 StarLink/Dipso분석프로그램을 사용하여 HI, HeI, HeII, [OIII], [NII], [ArIII], [SII], [SIII] 등의 강한 선들의 선윤곽을 통해 팽창속도를 얻었다. HI선의 경우 단일 정상을 보이는 반면, He과 다른 금지선들은 두 개의 정상 분포가 겹치는 특성을 보였다. 가스 유출 속도는 중심별의 복사압에 의해 바깥쪽으로 갈수록 가속되는 것으로 분석되었다. 우리는 팽창속도자료를 통해, HST 영상에서 보여진 중심부분의 세 개의 고리는 양극콘(HI 선등에 나타남)과 고리(He, [SIII]선에 특성이 보임)의 복합 구조가 투영된 것으로 결론지었다.

Genotypic and Environmental Effects on Cookie Quality of Korean Winter Wheat

  • Cookie baking properties and relationships between cookie baking properties and flour characteristics were evaluated for two years, 1997 and 1998, and at two locations, Suwon and Deokso, with Korean winter wheat cultivars and lines. Cookie baking parameters, except for cookie diameter and top grain score, were influenced by locations and years. Chokwang, Suwon 274, Suwon 275, Suwon 277 and Urimil showed larger cookie diameter and excellent top grain score compared to the other Korean winter wheat cultivars and lines. Among the flour characteristics, protein content, damaged starch content, alkaline water retention capacity and flour swelling volume showed high positive correlation coefficients with cookie baking parameters. Friabilin-present lines showed larger cookie diameter, suitable surface structure of cookie and softer snapping force than the friabilin-absent lines.

조형예술을 응용한 의상디자인 발상에 관한 연구 -20세기 패션디자인에 나타난 몬드리안의 기하추상회화 작품을 중심으로- (A Study on Fashion Design Applied with the Plastic Arts -Focused on Mondrian's Geometrical Abstract Painting Shown in the Twenty Century's Fashion Design-)

  • The plastic arts is used when designers draw inspirations to create fashion design. The author referred to fashion magazines for designing ideas of Mondrian's geometrical abstract painting in practical applications used by designers in Paris, Italy, London and New York during the 10-year period(1991-2000). The collections of data were analyzed as following: ◇ Fashion Designing Idea 1. Matching Idea The art is reproduced in the design as how it is with no transformation. First, the painting's complete figure is reproduced on the entire or parts of clothing. Second, the painting's partial figure is reproduced on the entire or parts of clothing. 2. Contrasting Ideas The composition elements in Mondrian's geometrical abstract painting, for example, structures of shapes, vertical and horizontal lines and different colors are applied in the design. First, one particular shape in painting is transformed into different shape of square, circle or triangle and reproduced in designing. Second, one particular shape in painting is disassembled and then reshaped into different form in reproduction. Third, additional lines are put in to create different look from the original painting. Forth, existing lines are extended over the boundary to create different look from the original painting. Fifth, achromatic colors: black and white, and three basic colors: red, blue and yellow in the original painting are modified into different shades or color scheme is increased in broad range.

엑스선 그레이 스케일 리소그래피를 활용한 반원형 단면의 서브 마이크로 선 패턴의 바이오멤스 플랫폼 응용 (X-ray grayscale lithography for sub-micron lines with cross sectional hemisphere for Bio-MEMS application)

  • As the rising attention to the medical and healthcare issue, Bio-MEMS (Micro electro mechanical systems) platform such as bio sensor, cell culture system, and microfluidics device has been studied extensively. Bio-MEMS platform mostly has high resolution structure made by biocompatible material such as polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS). In addition, three dimension structure has been applied to the bio-MEMS. Lithography can be used to fabricate complex structure by multiple process, however, non-rectangular cross section can be implemented by introducing optical apparatus to lithography technic. X-ray lithography can be used even for sub-micron scale. Here in, we demonstrated lines with round shape cross section using the tilted gold absorber which was deposited on the oblique structure as the X-ray mask. This structure was used as a mold for PDMS. Molded PDMS was applied to the cell culture platform. Moreover, molded PDMS was bonded to flat PDMS to utilize to the sub-micro channel. This work has potential to the large area bio-MEMS.

RF 소자의 소형화를 위해 실리콘 박막상에서 다양한 형태의 주기적 스트립 구조를 가지는 전송선로의 기본특성 연구 (A study on basic characteristics of transmission lines employing various periodic strip structures on silicon substrate for a miniaturization of RF components)

  • 본 논문에서는 실리콘 RFIC(radio frequency integrated circuit) 상에서 초소형 수동소자에의 응용을 위하여 다양한 형태의 주기적 스트립 구조(PSS, periodic strip structure)를 이용한 전송선로의 기본 특성을 연구하였다. 그 결과에 의하면, 본 논문에서 제안한 다양한 형태의 PSS 구조를 가지는 전송선로는 종래의 코프레너 선로(CPW, coplanar wave guide)에 비해 강한 slow-wave 특성에 의해 단파장 특성을 보여주었으며, 특히, PSS와 접지면 사이에 contact가 존재하고 PSS에 slot이 존재하지 않는 with-contact 구조가 RF 소자의 소형화에 가장 효과적임을 알 수 있었다. 구체적으로 with-contact 형태의 전송선로에 대한 실리콘 박막상의 점유면적은 종래의 코프레너 선로에 비해 4.39%로 점유면적이 대폭 축소되었다. 대역폭 계산결과에 의하면 모든 형태의 PSS 구조는 적어도 차단주파수가 384 GHz이상의 광대역 특성을 보여주었다. 상기 결과들로부터 본 논문에서 제안한 다양한 형태의 PSS 구조를 가지는 전송선로는 광대역 및 초소형 RF 수동소자로써 유용하게 사용될 수 있음을 알 수 있으며, 특히, with-contact 구조가 RF 소자의 소형화에 가장 효과적임을 알 수 있었다.

Microbial Characterization of Excessive Growing Biofilm in Sewer Lines Using Molecular Technique

  • For elucidating excessive growth of biofilm that subsequently leads to the clogging problem in a small town's sewer lines of Wisconsin, the FISH method was employed. At the beginning of the simulated experiments, ${\beta}$-subclass proteobacteria prevailed in runs fed with industrial wastewater, while ${\gamma}$-subclass proteobacteria dominated in runs with domestic wastewater. However, the bacterial community structure changed significantly over six weeks; Cytophaga-Flavobacterium (CF)­group bacteria dominated in most runs fed with the small town's wastewater regardless of their source, while CF-group decreased strongly in run fed with domestic sewage from another city (Madison). It was also microscopically confirmed that most of those clogging materials was toilet tissue, which in turn may lead to vigorous growth of cellulose-degrading CF-group bacteria. This dominant presence of CF-group bacteria in the small town's sewer indicates that the main constituent of biofilm, toilet tissue (cellulose) in sewage, might have induced the unique pattern of their microbial community structure. Therefore, it suggests that molecular technique is useful for monitoring the clogging problems in sewer lines.

Assessment of Genetic Diversity and Population Structure on Kenyan Sunflower (Helianthus annus L.) Breeding Lines by SSR Markers

  • In crop breeding program, information about genetic dissimilarity on breeding resources is very important to corroborate genealogical relationships and to predict the most heterozygotic hybrid combinations and inbred breeding. This study aimed to evaluate the genetic variation in Kenyan sunflower breeding lines based on simple sequence repeat (SSR). A total of 83 alleles were detected at 32 SSR loci. The allele number per locus ranged from 2 to 7 with an average of 2.7 alleles per locus detected from the 24 sunflower accessions and the average value of polymorphic information contents (PIC) were 0.384. A cluster analysis based on the genetic similarity coefficients was conducted and the 24 sunflower breeding resources were classified into three groups. The principal coordinates (PCoA) revealed 34% and 13.38% respectively, and 47.38% of total variation. It was found that the genetic diversity within the Kenyan sunflower breeding resources was narrower than that in other sunflower germplasm resources, suggesting the importance and feasibility of introducing elite genotypes from different origins for selection of breeding lines with broader genetic base in Kenyan sunflower breeding program.

Spitzer and Herschel observations of protostellar outflows in L1251B

  • L1251B is an excellent example of a small group of pre- and protostellar objects in low-mass star-forming region. Previous interferometer data with a high angular resolution resolved the outflows associated with L1251B into a few components. To understand the physical conditions of the protostellar outflows in L1251B, we mapped this region spectroscopically with Spitzer/IRS and obtained spectral line data from Herschel/PACS. Spitzer/IRS provides the S(0)-S(7) pure rotational lines of H2 as well as fine-structure emissions produced in shocks such as S, [Si II], and [Fe II] and it is a powerful tool for studying shocked interstellar gas. In addition, [O I] lines observed with Herschel/PACS are described well by J-type shock models expected in the outflows from protostars. We will present an analysis of the L1251B protostellar outflow in the H2 pure rotational lines and fine-structure emissions.

간선철도 속도향상을 위한 궤도개량 연구방향 (Track Improvement Study Guide for Speed-up Conventional Railway)

  • Conventional railways are less competitive than other land transportation means in term of speed, and thus users preference and transportation share for rail system are relatively lower than others. For example, most of the conventional lines except the Seoul~Busan corridor run at an average speed of 70 km/h or less, which imposes certain constraints on roles and functions as the trunk lines. In this regard, the speed of the conventional lines should be improved up to 200 km/h to gain competitiveness, promote balanced regional development and lead the era of low carbon green growth. As track system is one of the most important elements for the speed-up, it is critical to come up with optimum technical solutions. Improvement of ballast track structure with efficient track installation can provide structural stability for higher speed and ensure operational safety with lower maintenance efforts. Thus, this study focuses on consequences followed by the speed-up including increase of load imposed on the track and impacts on track components, and provide solutions for track maintenance by analyzing impact on the track structure by speed. Also, it compares ballast and concrete tracks under designing and construction and considers how to meet needs for passengers comfort and environmental requirements as a strategic approach.
