  • The anisotropy of electron energy distribution in oxygen plasmas produced by a high intensity laser was investigated by using polarization spectroscopy. An ultra-short pulsed laser with a pulse duration of 66.5 fs and a power density of $1 {\times} 10^17/ W/$\textrm{cm}^2$$ was used. At this power density and pulse duration, the plasma was generated predominantly by optical field ionization. The degree of polarization of OVI 1s$^2$2p$^2$p2- 1s$^2$4d$^2$D$^{0}$ (J = 1/2-3/2 and 3/2-5/2) transition line at 129.92 $\AA$ was measured. O VI 1s$^2$2p$^2$P$^2$ -1s$^2$4s$^2$S$^2$ (J = 1/2-1/2 and 3/2-1/2) transition line at 132.26 $\AA$ was used to calibrate the sensitivity of the optical system. The dependencies of the degree of polarization on the initial gas density and on the laser polarization were investigated. When the laser polarization was changed from a linear to a circular polarization, the degree of polarization was decreased. When the initial gas density was increased, the degree of polarization was decreased.

  • A probe type fiber-optic sensing techique for electric current measurement is applied in this paper. The technique is based on the Faraday effect which meaning is that polarization state of light is rotated by magnetic field. In experiment, test wire is located at inside and outside of the probe to be measured. The experimental results prove not only linear property, but also polarization rotation property according to the distance from outside of probe.

  • In this paper, we report an experimental study of a linear polarization-discriminatory state inverter made of three-layer sculpture thin film fabricated by glancing angle deposition technique. The first and third layers are quarter-wave plates of zigzag structure and the middle of them is a circular Bragg reflector of left-handed helical structure.

  • We report the development of the equipment that can measure the transmittance of the polarizer for TFTLCD application versus azimuth angle of the linear polarization at each micro spot in the section, and therefore measure the degree of iodine permeation and alignment quantitatively at each area of the section.

  • We need two operation modes to obtain the complex hologram without bias and the conjugate image in the modified triangular interferometer (MTI). To solve the problem, we proposed the optimized MTI with one wave plate, which can obtain cosine and sine functions by the combination of one wave plate and one linear polarizer. In the extraction of phase term using the combination of polarization components, the phase error occurs, and we analyzed such potential phase errors in the optimized MTI.

  • Periodically slotted dielectrically filled paralled-plate waveguide as a leaky wave antenna is analysed for E-polarization case. The homogeneous linear equation whose unknown is the surface current density over the conducting strip is formulated, from which the complex propagation constant is calculated and compared with the previous results. Good correspondence between them is observed. And a method for the radiation pattern is also considered.

  • In this paper, we performed the comparisons between polarization diversity using dual polarization antennal which has $\pm45^{\circ}$slanted linear polarization characteristics and conventional space diversity in rural and residential areas. The analysis was done by evaluating the diversity gain improvement and cross correlation coefficients between two received signals through each diversity branch. From the results, we could confirmed that space diversity has bigger diversity gain than polarization diversity by 1~2 dB, and there is a little difference of $\pm0.1$ in cross correlation coefficients by analyzing CDF under portable mobile phone environments.

  • Five bench scale specimens were used to evaluate corrosion performance of damaged epoxy-coated bars in chloride contaminated concrete. The test specimens were subjected 48 weekly cycles of ponding with sodium chloride solution and drying. Test results using linear polarization technique show that the current density of specimen with conventional steel becomes $0.715\;{\mu}A/cm^2$ indicating that the steel bars are in moderate or high corrosion condition. However, the corrosion rates of the specimens with damaged epoxy coated bars are much below $0.1\;{\mu}A/cm^2$ and the bars appears to be in passive condition. The corrosion protection performance provided by calcium nitrite is better than that of specimens with the other two inhibitors.

  • In this study, we have investigated the photoinduced birefringence of Ag plarized-photodoping in double-layer of Ag doped chalcognide thin films and dependence of polarization states in chalcogenide thin films. Also, we have investigated the polarization dependence of photoinduced birefringence and the anisotropy of absorption in an amorphous As$\sub$40/Ge$\sub$10/Se$\sub$15/S$\sub$35/ chalcogenide thin films using two 632.8nm He-Ne lasers, which have a smaller energy than the optical energy gap (E$\sub$OP/) of the film, i.e., an exposure of sub-bandgap light (hν$\sub$op/). The photoinduced phenomena of Ag polarized-photodooping increasing the linear dichroism(d), about 84% and birefringence(Δn), about 23%. It will offer lots of information for the photodoping mechanism and analysis of chalcogenide thin films.

  • Holographic interferometry, an electromagnetic method, was used to study corrosion of carbon steel, aluminum and copper nickel alloys in NaOH, KCI and $H_2SO_4$ solutions respectively. The technique, called electrochemical emission spectroscopy, consisted of in-situ monitoring of changes in the number of fringe evolutions during the corrosion process. It allowed a detailed picture of anodic dissolution rate changes of alloys. The results were compared to common corrosion measurement methods such as linear polarization resistance measurements and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. A good agreement between both data was found, thus indicating that holographic interferometry can be a very powerful technique for in-situ corrosion monitoring.
