Starting with the geometrically non-linear formulation and the subsequent linearization, this paper presents a consistent formulation of the exact mechanical analysis of geometrically and materially linear three-layer continuous planar beams. Each layer of the beam is described by the geometrically linear beam theory. Constitutive laws of layer materials and relationships between interlayer slips and shear stresses at the interface are assumed to be linear elastic. The formulation is first applied in the analysis of a three-layer simply supported beam. The results are compared to those of Goodman and Popov (1968) and to those obtained from the formulation of the European code for timber structures, Eurocode 5 (1993). Comparisons show that the present and the Goodman and Popov (1968) results agree completely, while the Eurocode 5 (1993) results differ to a certain degree. Next, the analytical solution is used in formulating a general procedure for the analysis of layered continuous beams. The applications show the qualitative and quantitative effects of the layer and the interlayer slip stiffnesses on internal forces, stresses and deflections of composite continuous beams.
In this paper, a unified solution method is presented for the classical beam theory. In Strength of Materials approach, the geometry, material properties and load system are known and related with the unknowns of forces, moments, slopes and deformations by applying a classical differential analysis in addition to equilibrium, constitutive, and kinematic laws. All these relations are expressed in a unified formulation for the classical beam theory. In the special case of simple beams, a system of four linear ordinary differential equations of first order represents the general mechanical behaviour of a straight beam. These equations are solved using the numerical differential quadrature method (DQM). The application of DQM has the advantages of mathematical consistency and conceptual simplicity. The numerical procedure is simple and gives clear understanding. This systematic way of obtaining influence line, bending moment, shear force diagrams and deformed shape for the beams with geometric and load discontinuities has been discussed in this paper. Buckling loads and natural frequencies of any beam prismatic or non-prismatic with any type of support conditions can be evaluated with ease.

With the use of differential quadrature method (DQM), forced vibrations and resonance frequency analysis of functionally graded (FG) nano-size beams rested on elastic substrate have been studied utilizing a shear deformation refined beam theory which contains shear deformations influence needless of any correction coefficient. The nano-size beam is exposed to uniformly-type dynamical loads having partial length. The two parameters elastic substrate is consist of linear springs as well as shear coefficient. Gradation of each material property for nano-size beam has been defined in the context of Mori-Tanaka scheme. Governing equations for embedded refined FG nano-size beams exposed to dynamical load have been achieved by utilizing Eringen's nonlocal differential law and Hamilton's rule. Derived equations have solved via DQM based on simply supported-simply supported edge condition. It will be shown that forced vibrations properties and resonance frequency of embedded FG nano-size beam are prominently affected by material gradation, nonlocal field, substrate coefficients and load factors.
In this paper, an improved theoretical interfacial stress analysis is presented for simply supported composite aluminum- sandwich honeycomb beam strengthened by imperfect FGM plateusing linear elastic theory. The adherend shear deformations have been included in the present theoretical analyses by assuming a linear shear stress through the thickness of the adherends, while all existing solutions neglect this effect. Remarkable effect of shear deformations of adherends has been noted in the results. It is shown that both the sliding and the shear stress at the interface are influenced by the material and geometry parameters of the composite beam. This new solution is intended for applicationto composite beams made of all kinds of materials bonded with a thin plate. Finally, numerical comparisons between the existing solutions and the present new solution enable a clear appreciation of the effects of various parameters.
We have claculated the absorbed dose distributions in water phantom irradiated by high energy photon beam. PDD (Percent Depth Dose) and Beam Profile can be represented by functions of depths and distances by using one dimensional model model based on transport theory. The parameters on scattering and absorption are evaluated by using non-linear regression process method. The values neeessary for calculation are obtained by simple experiment. The calculated values are in good agreement with the measured values.

In this paper, we present a design and experiment study of high power large diameter backward wave oscillator. Analysis is made within the scope of linear theory of absolute instibility. The Electron beam generator may be atteractive source of high power millimeter microwaves which has simpler structure.
This paper proposes an algorithm to design the non-linear array so as to form efficiently the one-shot beam with relatively less sensors for acoustic measurement. In this algorithm, according to the spatial sampling theory the part for high frequency(HF) band has equispaced sensor array and the sensor distances below the HF band are decided as a function of number of HF sensors. As the results of the simulations, the mean and variances of directivity index(DI) of non-linear array which has less sensors are similar to those of linear array. and the DI variation for beam steering angle is very small. And the beam width at -2dB point is 6.8°. Thus it is confirmed that the design algorithm for non-linear array which is proposed to have less sensors can be efficiently used in acoustic measurement.
This paper deals with the measurement theory and technique of linear expansion coefficient for solid material using Michelson interferometer. The Michelson interferometer produces interference fringes by splitting a beam of monochromatic light so that one beam strikes a fixed mirror and the other a movable mirror. When the reflected beams are brought back together, an interference pattern results. Precise distance measurements until a quarter of wave length can be made with the Michelson interferometer by moving the mirror and counting the interference fringes which move by a photo diode. This paper represents the application of Michelson interferometer for measuring infinitesimal length system and shows the measurement method of linear expansion coefficients for various materials like copper, aluminum and iron. the results are good agreement with theoretical value within margin of error for each materials.

This paper deals with geometrical non-linear analyses of the tapered variable-arc-length beam, subjected to the combined load with an end moment and a point load. The beam is supported by a hinged end and a frictionless sliding support so that the axial length of the deformed beam can be increased by its load. Cross sections of the beam whose flexural rigidities are functionally varied with the axial coordinate. The simultaneous differential equations governing the elastica of such beam are derived on the basis of the Bernoulli-Euler beam theory. These differential equations are numerically solved by the iteration technique for obtaining the elastica of the deformed beam. For validating theories developed herein, laboratory scaled experiments are conducted.

Stress waves monitored on the surface of structures under various loading conditions can provide useful information on the structural health status. In this paper, stress waves are measured by several sensors when a steel beam is impacted by a ball drop. The sensors used include the piezo-electric film Sensor, the electrical strain gage, and the ultrasonic transducer, and special attention is given to the pieza film sensor. The wavelet transform is used for the time-frequency analysis of dispersive waves propagating in the beam. The velocities of the wave produced in the team due to the lateral impact is found to be frequency-dependent and identified as the flexural wave velocity based on the comparisons with the Timoshenko beam theory. A linear impact site identification method is developed using the flexural wave, and the impact sites of the beam can be accurately estimated by the piezo film sensors. It is found that the piezo film sensor is appropriate for sensing stress waves due to impact and for locating impact sites in the beam.
