A binocular robot vision system with quadrangle recognition

  • A binocular robot vision system having an autonomously moving active viewpoint is proposed. By using this active viewpoint, the system constructs a correspondence between the images of a feature points on the right and left retinas and calculates the spatial coordinates of the feature points. The system incorporates a function of detecting straight lines in an image. To detect lines the system uses Hough transform. The system searches a region surrounded by 4 straight lines. Then the system recognizes the region as a quadrangle. The system constructs a correspondence between the quadrangles in the right and left images. By the use of the result of the constructed correspondence, the system calculates the spatial coordinates of an object. An experiment shows the effect of the line detection using Hough transform, the recognition of the surface of the object and the calculation of the spatial coordinates of the object.

  • In this paper, we proposed a search method for structured light pixels of omnidirectional structured light image. Since the omnidirectional structured light image is composed of several circular arc segments, the proposed algorithm searches the structured light pixels in radial direction rather than horizontal or vertical directions. The proposed search algorithm is based on the well-known Bresenham raster algorithm for line drawing in discrete integer space, thereby computation of the algorithm is very efficient. Comparison results between the proposed search algorithm and the conventional horizontal search are presented in experiments.

  • In this paper, we present an agent-based transportation routing method in a semi-conductor production line. The main characteristic of the proposed method is that each AGV agent individually searches candidates of its route with reference of the pheromone information based on the use of an analogy of Ant System. The proposed method is applied to several routing problems. The performances of the proposed method are compared with those of a Genetic Algorithm. The effectiveness of the proposed method is conrmed by many numerical examples.   • Decision of operation performance mode to minimize the energy consumption of urban rail vehicle. This paper analyses how much acceleration and deceleration of urban rail vehicle should be applied andhow to choose an operation mode to minimize energy consumption when train runs between station within the fixed operation time. The decided operation pattern satisfying the minimum energy consumption becomes a target trajectory and a basis for the controller design criteria. To make this goal it grasps the characteristics of urban rail vehicle, realize operation energy model of urban rail vehicle and verify the accuracy of embodied model the Matlab simulation with the same operation result of real route. It searches for operation pattern to minimize operation energy by changing the acceleration and deceleration on the imaginative route and proposes operation pattern minimizing energy consumption by applying real operation data between Dolgogee-Sukgye section of Seoul Metropolitan Subway Line 6.

  • It is very important for a mobile robot to estimate its current position With precise information about the current position, the mobile robot can do path-planning or environmental map building successfully. In this paper, a position estimation method using one color image is presented. The mobile robot(K2A) takes an image of a corridor and searches for the door and pillar, which are the given landmarks. The color information is used to distinguish the landmarks. In order to represent the presence of the landmarks, Image Mode is defined. This method adopts Kullback information distance. If a landmark is detected, with the color information, the mobile robot identifies the vertical line of the landmark and its crossing point and an experimental navigation is performed.

  • In this paper, we propose a new conjugate gradient method for solving unconstrained optimization models. By using exact and strong Wolfe line searches, the proposed method possesses the sufficient descent condition and global convergence properties. Numerical results show that the proposed method is efficient at small, medium, and large dimensions for the given test functions. In addition, the proposed method was applied to solve practical application problems in portfolio selection.

Establishment and Application of Subway Line Chain OD Using SSA (SSA를 이용한 지하철 노선 Chain OD 구축 및 활용)

  • The existing selected station analysis (SSA) method analyzes the link transfer mode data between origin and destination of individuals passing through stations from a microscopic standpoint. As such, existing SSA is insufficient as it uses integrated analysis using macroscopic data such as subway lines. This research builds a line chain OD based on path search of individual passenger's movement through the subway, and explores means to utilize the findings. First, a method is proposed that searches the traversed subway path from the linked passage modes that the passenger uses and applies the results to SSA line analysis. Compared to the existing SSA, this method provides for analysis of commonly conflicting features such as the line on which the station is passed, and the stations included on the line thanks to the presence of complete information of the individual passenger's traversed path. It also allows for integrated observation of the line chain OD that approaches a certain station. For enhanced understanding, Seoul Metro Line 9 is used as a case study to demonstrate the integrated formulation concept of line chain OD centered around a certain station as well as the macroscopic features of the traversed path that approaches stations included on the line.

An Investigation on Image Needs and Contexts in Image Search Failure (이미지 검색 실패에 나타난 이미지 요구와 맥락에 관한 분석)

  • As a way of identifying users' image needs for improved effectiveness of image search, there have been recent research approaches to examine contextual factors in image needs with multiple perspectives. In this line of research, this study examined a total of 70 unsuccessful image searches for the purpose of investigating users' image needs. In order to achieve the purpose of this study, in particular, the characteristics of image needs, contextual factors on image needs, and image queries were investigated. The findings of this study demonstrated that information needs from the failed image searches are categorized primarily into specific and general/nameable categories. More importantly, these information needs are embedded with multiple contextual factors, primarily, task purpose and use purpose. With an analysis of detailed use purposes for image, illustration use was found most in this data set. For query analysis, the type of unique/refined image query was revealed primarily. As the results of this study were found similar to the findings of previous studies, it is possible to characterize the image needs from the failed image searches. In addition, the findings of this study are expected to be useful to the design and service of image retrieval.

국내 항암약침의 최신연구경향

  • Objectives : This systematic review summarizes the existing evidence on anti-tumor herbal acupuncture in South Korea. Methods : Literature searches were conducted in four databases. All studies of anti-tumor herbal acupuncture which has been published in South Korea until May, 2006 were included. Data were extracted according to pre-defined criteria by two independent reviewers. Results : We found 73 papers related to anti-tumor herbal acupuncture in South Korea. Seventy of seventy-three papers are trial research and only three papers are clinical research. Herb materials which were used in those papers are Bee-venom, Wild-ginseng, Ginseng, Houttuynia cordata Thunb, Lonicerae Flos, Carthami Tinctorii Juglans sinensis, Euphorbiae Radix, Ecliptae Herba, Crotonis Semen, Juglans sinensis, Armeniaceae Amarum, so on. From those papers, Anti-tumor herbal acupunctures are effective to tumor cell line and tumor in vivo. Clinical research papers reported that Anti-tumor herbal acupunctures are useful to improve cancer related symptoms and quality of life(QOL) of cancer patients. Conclusions : From the above results, we make sure of that anti-tumor herbal acupuncture is useful therapeutics for cancer patients. If we conceive complex-herb materials and carry out more advanced research, Anti-tumor Herbal Acupuncture is one of those major therapeutics to improve clinical symptoms and quality of life(QOL) of cancer patients.

A Review of Research on the Treatment of Peroneal Nerve Palsy by Acupuncture and Moxibustion

  • Background: This was a retrospective review of published articles reporting acupuncture and moxibustion treatment of peroneal nerve palsy. Methods: On-line database searches were carried out using; Cochrane Library, Pubmed, CNKI, NDSL and OASIS to find articles reporting acupuncture and moxibustion treatment for peroneal nerve palsy. Duplicate articles and studies that were not relevant to the topic were excluded, along with review articles and commentaries. Results: 20 studies were selected, 18 clinical case studies (47 patients) and 2 randomized controlled trials (154 patients). Intervention treatments included acupuncture, moxibustion, bee-venom (BV), pharmacopuncture, electroacupuncture and acupotomy. Surprisingly, although peroneal nerve palsy is not a very rare disease, only 2 studies out of 20 carried out a randomized controlled trial. Conclusion: Although studies to date report the efficacy of acupuncture and moxibustion treatment in peroneal nerve palsy patients, the absence of objective evaluation and the absence in the reporting of side-effects remains an issue.
