  • This study researches the historical production, process, and design method for 3 pairs of corsets in $18^{th}$ century France. In the analytical stage of historical materials, it grasped the kind, form, origin, and change in style through a lexical definition of relevant terms. Through a precedent study on Garsault's 'L'art du tailleur', preservation costume, and historical reconstruction of pattern in preservation costume, it confirmed corps size, silhouette, pattern form, and material for historical production. The sewing method and the producing sequence were analyzed. In the production stage, 3 selective models in corps plein baleine, corps demi-baleine, and corset were historically produced. With neckline of forming broad Letter U, the bust part is covered roundly. The bodice was composed of 10 panels based on the corps form in the mid-$18^{th}$ century of following a curve of a human body. A shoulder strap was allowed to make the arm movement comfortable by producing and attaching it separately. The cutting line except the center in the front and the back of vertical line was distributed according to the natural flow of a form and movement of the human body. The curve-based pattern line was confirmed.

  • A novel approach for the reconstruction of 3D building model from aerial image data is proposed in this paper. In this approach, a Centroid Neural Network (CNN) with a metric of line segments is proposed for connecting low-level linear structures. After the straight lines are extracted from an edge image using the CNN, rectangular boundaries are then found by using an edge-based grouping approach. In order to avoid producing unrealistic building models from grouping lined segments, a hierarchical grouping method is proposed in this paper. The proposed hierarchical grouping method is evaluated with a set of aerial image data in the experiment. The results show that the proposed method can be successfully applied for the reconstruction of 3D building model from satellite images.

  • A novel 3D tube scanning technique is proposed. The proposed tube scanning technique is developed for a special tube inspection module which consists of four line-lasers and one camera. Using the scanning module, we can reconstruct the 360 degree shapes of the inner surfaces of a cylindrical tube. From an image frame captured by the camera, we reconstruct a partial tube model based on four laser triangulations. Then by aligning such partial models with respect to a reference tube axis, a complete 3D shape of the tube is reconstructed. The tube axis in each reconstructed frame is aligned with a 3D Euclidean transformation to the reference axis. Several experiments show that the proposed method can align multiple tube axes very accurately and reconstruct 3D shapes of a tube with very low shape distortion.

  • The QUICK scheme for convection terms is modified for unstructured finite volume method by using linear reconstruction technique and validated through the computation of two well defined laminar flows. It uses two upstream grid points and one downstream grid point in approximating the convection terms. The most upstream grid point is generated by considering both the direction of flow and local grid line. Its value is calculated from surrounding grid points by using a linear construction method. Numerical error by the modified QUICK scheme is shown to decrease about 2.5 times faster than first order upwind scheme as grid size decreases. Computations are also carried out to see effects of the skewness and irregularity of grid on numerical solution. All numerical solutions show that the modified QUICK scheme is insensitive to both the skewness and irregularity of grid in terms of the accuracy of solution.

  • The structure of a non-axisymmetric propane diffusion flame was investigated. Tomographic reconstruction method to convert the line-integrated self-emission data of a fuel-rich diffusion flame with square cross-section was applied to get the spatially reconstructed emission data. Modified Shepp-Logan filter and concentric squares raster were chosen for reconstructing arbitrarily shaped object in this process. Spatially reconstructed emission data were then interpreted to several physical quantities, such as flame edge, FWHM, perimeter and 3-D flame temperature distribution. Necessary assumptions were discussed and the results were interpreted. In comparison with axisymmetric flame, flame edge was developed higher, and sooting region of upstream was broader than in this non-axisymmetric one. At some height, the flame was shrunk very rapidly and finally formed circular cross-section.

  • We implement a system for 3D structure reconstruction from multiple 2D images. It uses geometric primitives such as box, wedge, pyramid, etc, each having translation, rotation, and scale parameters. Primitives are marked on input images with GUI (Graphic User Interface). Lines made by projection of primitives onto an image correspond to marked line segments of the image. Error function is defined by disparity between them and is minimized by downhill simplex method. By assigning relationship between models, the number of parameters to solve can be decreased and the resultant models become more accurate To share variables among other models also reduces computational complexity. Experiments using real images have shown that the proposed method successfully reconstructs 3D structure.

  • A phase-shifting projection moire method particularly intended for high-speed three-dimensional shape reconstruction of diffuse objects is presented. Emphasis is on realization of phase-shifting fringe analysis in projection moire topography using a set of line grating pairs designed to provide different phase shifts in sequence. Further a time-integral fringe capturing scheme is devised to remove undesirable high frequency original grating patterns in real-time without time-consuming software image processing. Finally the performances of the proposed method are discussed with measurement results.

  • A transhiatal esophagectomy without thoracotomy and esophageal reconstruction with gastric transponsition was performed in a recurrent laryngeal carcinoma spread to cervical esophagus. There were several benefits to performing this method: 1) It could be performed in one stage, took shorter operating time, and provided safe and efficient palliation in the patient with esophageal carcinoma. 2) The possible maximum surgical margin was obtained and the incidence of suture line tumor recurrence was minimized. 3) Postoperative death from anastomotic disruption and secondary mediastinitis and sepsis were virtually eliminated. 4) Clinically significant gastroesophageal reflux rarely occured.

  • This study presents in-line digital particle holography and its application to spray droplets to measure the characteristics of spray droplets. Several important parameters at the time of hologram recording such as the object distance and the region of laser beam used were verified. The correlation coefficient method with important parameters such as the reconstruction interval and the correlation interval was used for determination of the focal planes of particles. The optimal values of all these parameters are obtained by either numerical simulation of holograms or experiments. Using these optimal parameters, double pulse digital spray holograms in a short time interval were recorded with the synchronization system for the time control. The spatial positions of droplets that are used for the evaluation of the three dimensional droplet velocities can be easily located, which proves the feasibility of the digital holographic technology for measurements of several important features of spray droplets.

  • We present a numerical procedure that compensates for tilt phase aberration in in-line digital holography by computing the period of interference patterns in the reconstructed phase image. This method enables the reconstruction of correct and accurate phase information, even if strong tilt aberrations exist. Example applications of tilt aberration compensation are shown for a tilted plate, a micro-lens array, and a thin film transistor. This method is convenient because it uses only one hologram and no hardware to minimize the tilt aberration.
