The Galactic Center: Not an Active Galactic Nucleus

  • We present $10{\mu}m-35{\mu}m$ Spitzer spectra of the interstellar medium in the Central Molecular Zone (CMZ), the central 210 pc ${\times}$ 60 pc of the Galactic center (GC). We present maps of the CMZ in ionic and $H_2$ emission, covering a more extensive area than earlier spectroscopic surveys in this region. The radial velocities and intensities of ionic lines and $H_2$ suggest that most of the $H_2$ 0-0 S(0) emission comes from gas along the line-of-sight, as found by previous work. We compare diagnostic line ratios measured in the Spitzer Infrared Nearby Galaxies Survey (SINGS) to our data. Previous work shows that forbidden line ratios can distinguish star-forming galaxies from LINERs and AGNs. Our GC line ratios agree with star-forming galaxies and not with LINERs or AGNs.

  • Electric power distribution feeders are susceptible to faults caused by a variety of situations such as adverse weather conditions, tree contacts, equipment failure, accidents, etc. Distribution circuit faults result in a number of problems related to the reliability of service and customer power quality. In the distribution line, the permanent interruption of customer service resulting from a blown fuse or a recloser lockout was the only factor which was used to determine service reliability. On underground distribution line, the serving of cables by earth-moving equipment is a prevalent cause of faults and the most cable faults quickly develop into bolted current. we introduce th multi-circuit breaker coordination methods in the Underground Distribution Line.

  • This paper proposes a tension control to compensate friction loss using on-line friction torque observer for a continuous strip processing line. Friction loss of roller results in significant deviation of strip tension. accordingly it has an influence on the operation of other adjacent rolls. To avoid tension variation of the strip, a friction torque observer is designed in adjacent roll, which operates in speed control mode. The experimental results show improvement of tension control performance by the proposed friction compensation method.

  • This paper presents the developing a new algorithm for detecting the Back fed Earth Fault in three wire-unigrounded distribution system by zero sequence admittance. So called "Backfed Earth Fault" of the electric power distribution line refers to a class of earth faults that the load-side line only is grounded, following after the distribution line broken into two parts, the source-side and the load-side. Because its mechanism differs from that of other earth faults, it is therefore, required to examine. This paper deals with the detailed software of the digital protective relay for Backfed earth fault. In order to prove that the proposed schemes is good, we performed off-line simulation using data from EMTP and ETSA(Electrcity Trust Of South Austrilia). It is shown that the suggested algorithm is never mal operated.

  • Since Korea has a small land area, it is expected to construct the conductor return type with neutral wire in the case of ${\pm}500kV$ HVDC double bipole transmission line. Therefore, in order to apply ${\pm}500kV$ HVDC double bipole transmission line with neutral wire in Korea, it is necessary to develop technology for insulation and environmental designs. In this study, radio interference, audible noise, electric field and ion current density according to the polarity arrangement were compared and assessed in the ${\pm}500kV$ HVDC double bipole transmission line with the conductor return method. And the optimum configuration of HVDC double bipole transmission line was determined from the viewpoint of electrical environment.

Determination of stress state in formation zone by central slip-line field chip

  • Stress state of chip formation zone is one of the main problems in metal cutting mechanics. In two-dimensional case this process is usually considered as consistent shears of work material along one of several shear surfaces, separating chip from workpiece. These shear planes are assumed to be trajectories of maximum shear stress forming corresponding slip-line field. This paper suggests a new approach to the constriction of slip-line field, which implies uniform compression in chip formation zone. Based on the given model it has been found that imaginary shear line in orthogonal cutting is close to the trajectory of maximum normal stress and the problem about its determination has been considered as well. It has been shown that there is a second central slip-line field inside chip, which corresponds well to experimental data about stress distribution on tool rake face and tool-chip contact length. The suggested model would be useful in understanding mechanistic problems in machining.

Visual Precise Measurement of Pile Rebound and Penetration Movement Using a High-Speed Line-Scan Camera

  • When a construction company builds a high structure. many piles should be driven into the ground by a hammer whose weight is 7,000 kg in order to make the ground under the structure safe and strong. So. it is essential to determine whether a pile is penetrated into the ground enough to support the weight of the structure since ground characteristics at different locations are different each other. This paper proposes a visual measurement system for pile rebound and penetration movement including vibration using a high-speed line-scan camera and a specially designed mark to recognize two-dimensional motion parameters of the mark using only a line-scan camera. A mark stacking white and black right-angled triangles is used for the measurement, and movement information for vertical distance, horizontal distance and rotational angle is determined simultaneously. Especially- by adopting a line-scan CCD camera whose line rate is 20 ㎑. the measurement performance of dynamic characteristics of the pile at impact instant is improved dramatically.

$CO_2$ 레이저 용접한 7N01 Al합금의 미세조직 특징(I) - 완전용입 용접부의 미세조직 - (Microstructural Features of Al Alloy 7N01 Welded by $CO_2$ Laser - Microsturctural Features of Full Penetration Joints -)

  • The effect of welding condition on the microstructures of the weld metal in A7N01 welded by $CO_2$ laser was investigated. The number of ripples was increased with decreasing power and increasing welding speed. In the bead without ripple lines, the subgrain microstructures distribution from the fusion line toward the center of the bead were in the order of cellular, dendritic and equiaxed dendrite. However, in the bead with ripple lines, cellular and dendritic were formed between the fusion boundary and the ripple line. Inaddition, those structures were also observed between the ripple line. Equiaxed dendrites were formed only at the center line region. Cellular and dendritics formed near the ripple line were larger than those formed near the fusion boundary. The cooling rates estimated by the dendrite arm spacing were in the range of 200 to 1150oC/s. Cooling rate was increased with decreasing the power and increasing the welding speed. Mg and Zn segregated at the boundaries of cellulars and dendritics, Mg was segregated more than Zn. The segregation of Mg and Zn decreased with increasing cooling rate. Hardness of the weld metal was lower than that of the base metal in all welding conditions and increased as the cooling rate increased.

광학렌즈의 사출압축성형에서 오버플로우를 이용한 웰드라인과 복굴절 저감 (Reduction of Birefringence and Weld-Line using Over-Flow in Injection Compression Molding for Optic Lens)

  • This study has focused on the weld-line and birefringence reduction of a plastic optic lens using over and CAE analysis in injection compression molding. A concave lens, which has a thin thickness in the center and a large difference in thickness between the center and the periphery, often causes weld-line defects during injection molding. CAE analysis has been applied to optimize the overflow design in order to reduce the weld-line defects and the polarization defects. To reduce the weld line and birefringence defects, overflow design and application using CAE analysis show that the measured birefringence values of the specimens before the overflow application were 46.8nm and 36.9nm, and the values after the over-flow application were 13.6nm and 14.0nm. From the experimental results, it is confirmed that birefringence is greatly improved when overflow is applied.

수력 발전기의 운전중 부분방전 측정기법에 대한 신뢰성 평가 (Evaluation of On-Line Partial Discharge Measurement Techniques on Hydro-Generator)

  • In hydro-generator, a groundwall insulation of stator windings gradually deteriorates due to mechanical, thermal, electrical and environmental stresses. These stresses combine to result in loose windings, delamination of the stator insulation and/or electrical tracking of the end winding, all of which can lead to stator insulation failures. Conventionally, off-line tests such as partial discharge measurement, DC/AC current test and ${\Delta}tan{\delta}$ test has been used for estimation of winding condition. However, off-line test requires large power supply and generator outage. In addition, major cause of insulation problems such as loose wedges and slot discharges may not be found with off-line diagnoses. This paper describes the on-line partial discharge measurement techniques in the generator stator windings. The experimental results from the UIAM #1 hydro-generator confirms a optimistic application of on-line generator diagnosis method as a reliable tool for evaluation of winding condition.
