A Study on Robustness Analysis Model for Calculating Line Capacity in Railroad System (철도선로용량 계산을 위한 강인성 분석모형에 관한 연구)

  • Railroad system is consisted of resources of rail track, signal system, and vehicles. Railway operation must use these limited resources and maximize resource utilization. Line capacity(number of trains throughput/day) is determined by such as parameters, line utilization rate($\alpha$), dummy rate for the break-through hour($\beta$), and dummy rate for the number of rail track intervals($\delta$). Line capacity simulation(LCS) determined the line capacity through simulation given $\alpha$, $\beta$, and $\delta$. This paper deals with the development of parameter evaluation simulation(PES). PES presents the decision maker with the relationship of line capacity and measurement of robustness for various scenarios in different parameters and then the decision maker can determine the appropriate parameters.

  • There are two methodologies to increase transport capacity of railway. The one is to invest railroad equipment or vehicles, and the other to improve operation efficiency through operation optimization. All of these is intended to increase transport capacity by improving line capacity. So far, we treat line capacity as the criteria for evaluating investment alternatives or for restricting train frequencies, and this criteria is calculated statical and experimental numerical formula. But, line capacity has special attribute that change dynamically according to operational condition, so there is a need of new line capacity estimation system. The Purpose of this paper is to present a new line capacity estimation system based on the probability simulation and its applications.

  • Line capacity calculation has been used to determine optimum efficiency and safe train service for train scheduling plan and investment priority order throughout detecting bottleneck section. Because of some problems of Yamagisi and UIC methods for line capacity calculation, developing of the method of line capacity caculation and evaluation for the Korea circumstance is important. This paper deals with the reliability improvement on the integrated system of TPS(Train Performance Simulator), PES(Parameter Evaluation Simulator), LCS(Line Capacity Simulator) and simulation and sensitivity analysis for line capacity.

  • A purpose of this research is building a Parameter Evaluation Simulation(PES) program which is present proper parameter value to calculate line capacity. This research performs a detailed simulation and a analysis of it using PES and it is developed on the basis of Line Capacity Simulation model. Chosen simulation sectors are that happened a big change of a line capacity because of joining a high speed train(KTX). Moreover this research performs a sensitivity analysis when basic data are changed.

  • Line Capacity is a criteria for transport capacity and is used to evaluate railroad investment alternatives or to decide train frequency when establish transportation plan. There are two methodologies to increase transport capacity of railway. One is to invest railroad equipment or vehicles, and the other is to improve operation efficiency through optimization. Such all efforts are intended to increase transport capacity by improving line capacity. So far, this criteria is calculated statical and experimental numerical formula. But, line capacity has special attribute that changes dynamically according to operational conditions, so there is a need of new line capacity estimation system. In this paper, we present a new estimation method of line capacity based on the probability simulation, and apply to normal railline section and special structured railine section.

  • This paper addresses the effect of protective capacity on the lead time and throughput of a re-entrant line where statistical fluctuations exist in the form of variation in processing times and machine breakdowns. The specific framework employed in the paper is a five station re-entrant line structured as a closed network mode. This paper argues that protective capacity can be used in conjunction with WIP inventory in order to reduce the lead time and to increase the increase the throughput of a line. Simulation analyses are included to give insight into the effectiveness of protective capacity.

  • In this study we deal with a simple computer simulation algorithm to decide the PRT station capacity. PRT system is different from the conventional rail traffic system in such point that the station is off-line so as to guarantee a very short headway. This characteristic has correlation with the accurate prediction of the line capacity and with the scale of the off-line station. In this paper physical factors and vehicles per hour that are necessary to decide the off-line station scale and the off-line station capacity, respectively, are shown through a simple compter simulations.
