In these days, we have increasing demands on the real-time services, especially for the multimedia data transmission in both of wired and wireless environments and thus efficient and stable ways of transmitting realtime data are needs. Although RTP is widely used for internet-based realtime applications, it cannot avoid packet losses, due to the use of UDP stack and its underlying layers. In the case of mobile computing applications, the packet losses are more frequent and consecutive because of the limited bandwidth. In this paper, we first statistically analyze the characteristics of packet losses in the wired and wireless communications, based on Gilbert model, and a new packet recovery scheme for realtime data transmission is presented. To reflect the transmission characteristics of the present network environment, our scheme makes the sender to dynamically adjust the amount of redundant information, using the current packet loss characteristic parameters reported by the receiver. Additionally, we use relatively large and discontinuous offset values, which enables us to recover from both of the random and consecutive packet losses. Due to these characteristics, our scheme is suitable for the mobile computing environment where packet loss rates are relatively high and varies rapidly in a wide range. Since our scheme is based on the analytic model form statistics, it can also be used for other network environments. We have implemented the scheme with Mobile IP and RTP/RTCP protocols to experimentally verify its efficiency.
Broadcast has been often used to disseminate the frequently requested data efficiently to a large volume of mobile units over a single or multiple channels. Since the mobile units have limited battery power, the minimization of the access time for the broadcast data is an important problem. There have been many research efforts that focus on the improvement if the broadcast techniques by providing indexes on the broadcast data. In this paper, we studied an efficient index allocation method for the broadcast data over multiple physical channels, which cannot be coalesced into a single high bandwidth channel. Previously proposed index allocation techniques either require the equal size of index and data or have a performance degradation problem when the number of given physical channels is not enough. These two problems will result in the increased average access time for the broadcast data. To cope with these problems, we propose an efficient tree- structured index allocation method for the broadcast data with different access frequencies over multiple physical channels. Our method minimizes the average access time for the broadcast data by broadcasting the hot data and their indexes more often than the less hot data and their indexes. We present an in-0e0th experimental and theoretical analysis of our method by comparing it with other similar techniques. Our performance analysis shows that it significantly decrease the average access time for the broadcast data over existing methods.

In this paper, a novel resource scheduling, which is used for hub network based long distance airborne tactical communication, is proposed. Recently, some countries of the world has concentrated on developing data rate and networking performance of CDL, striving to keep pace with modern warfare, which is changed into NCW. And our government has also developed the next generation high capacity CDL. In hub network, a typical communication structure of CDL, hybrid FDMA/TDMA can be considered to exchange high rate data among multiple UAVs simultaneously, within limited bandwidth. However, due to different RTT and traffic size of UAV, idle time resource and unnecessary packet transmission delay can occur. And these losses can reduce entire efficiency of hub network in long distance communication. Therefore, in this paper, we propose RTT and data traffic size based UAV scheduling, which selects time/frequency resource of UAVs by using iterative sorting algorithm. The simulation results verified that the proposed scheme improves data rate and packet delay performance in low complexity.
A growing diversity of pervasive devices is gaming access to the Internet and other information. However, much of the rich multimedia contents cannot be easily handled by the client devices because of the limited communication, processing, storage and display capabilities. The in-tegration of voice, data and video service modified the target of networking technologies. Networks must have some the capabilities for in-tegration of various services and also for QoS support as required by each of those service. Because of these reasons, we developed EAGIS(Efficient ATM Gateway for real time Internet Service) to provide seamless multimedia service between the ATM network and the Internet. EAGIS consists of the interworking unit, content server, transcoding server, and the serveice broker to provide seamless multimedia service be-tween the ATM network and the Internet. In this paper, we design the architecture and transcoding service scenario of the EAGIS. When the RTP is used for the bi-directional communication, transcoding time is configured by the time-stamp of RTCP. When HTTP is used for unidirec-tional communication, self-timer is used. By using these reference time, standard transcoding method is applicable according to the frame trans-mission rate and network traffic load. And we can also assure the QoS of the multiple users` effective bandwidth by our algorithm.

Networks-on-chip (NoC) is emerging as a key technology to overcome severe bus traffics in ever-increasing complexity of the Multiprocessor systems-on-chip (MPSoC); however traditional electrical interconnection based NoC architecture would be faced with technical limits of bandwidth and power consumptions in the near future. In order to cope with these problems, a hybrid optical NoC architecture which use both electrical interconnects and optical interconnects together, has been widely investigated. In the hybrid optical NoCs, wormhole switching and simple deterministic X-Y routing are used for the electrical interconnections which is responsible for the setup of routing path and optical router to transmit optical data through optical interconnects. Optical NoC uses circuit switching method to send payload data by preset paths and routers. However, conventional hybrid optical NoC has a drawback that concurrent transmissions are not allowed. Therefore, performance improvement is limited. In this paper, we propose a new routing algorithm that uses circuit switching and adaptive algorithm for the electrical interconnections to transmit data using multiple paths simultaneously. We also propose an efficient method to prevent livelock problems. Experimental results show up to 60% throughput improvement compared to a hybrid optical NoC and 65% power reduction compared to an electrical NoC.

In this paper, we introduce a Parallel Interference Canceller (PIC) based sorting method to improve performance in the MC-DS/CDMA environment. A conventional PIC estimates and subtracts out all of the MAI (Multiple Access Interference) for each user in parallel. The parallel process ensures the low delay for the detection of all users. Also this scheme requires more stages for having better performance. Since the performance of PIC is strongly related to the correct MAI estimation, we introduce the IC (Interference Cancellation) scheme to estimate the accurate weaker signal group than the desired signal using conventional PIC. The principle of the proposed receiver sorts in descending order by the strength of signal and subtracts the MAI of the strong interferers from the desired signal for the accurate estimate of the weaker signals. Following this, the proposed scheme cancels out the improved weaker interference from the desired signal, using the output of the pre-step. In this result, the proposed system obtains better BER performance than the conventional PIC because the accuracy of the strong signal is improved. However, a disadvantage exists in that the processing time has slightly longer delay than the PIC owing to the power sorting and the MAI estimation process. The system performance evaluates and compares other non-liner It according to the number of sub-carriers in the limited-bandwidth.

The main purpose of rate control is to achieve the highest video quality when bandwidth or storage capacity is limited. For this purpose, we need a rate control algorithm which is adaptively controlled by the motion information of sequences, scene change, buffer capacity and time-varing bandwitdh channels. A rate-control method in the encoder requires the accurate estimation of target bit for each frame and the low end-to-end delay for transmitting video data by intelligent selection of encoding parameters. In this paper, we suggest three kinds of linear relation in the encoder to satisfy the characteristics of rate control. The first relation is that between the percentage of zero quantized transformed coefficients(p) and coded bits. Second relation is that between the PSNR of encoded frame and its Quantization parameter(QP). Finally, we can find out a linear approximation between QP and p. According to the experimental analysis, the proposed method results in an efficient rate control in terms of the bit estimation, the buffer capacity, and PSNR compared with the existing rate control in the H.264 JM 9.3.

In this paper, novel internal antenna with its controllable resonant frequency is presented for triple-band or over mobile handsets. The operating range can include GSM(880${\~}$960 MHz), GPS(1,575$\pm$10 MHz), DCS(1,710${\~}$1,880 MHz), US-PCS(1,850${\~}$l,990 MHz), and W-CDMA(1,920${\~}$2,170 MHz). The proposed antenna is realized by combination of a half wavelength loaded line and a shorted monopole. A single shorting and feeding points are used and they are common to both antenna structures. By controlling a value of lumped inductance element between shorting point and ground plane, the antenna provides enough bandwidth to cover DCS, US-PCS, and W-CDMA respectively. When these higher bands are controlled by the values of inductance, resonant characteristics in GSM and GPS bands are maintained. In this work, maximum value of the inductor is limited within 3.3 nH to mitigate gain degradation from frequency tuning. As a result, measured maximum gain of antenna is -0.58${\~}$-0.30 dBi in the GSM band, -0.57${\~}$0.43 dBi in the GPS band and 0.38${\~}$1.15 dBi in the DCS/US-PCS/W-CDMA band. In higher band, the proposed antenna is certified that resonant frequency of about 240 MHz can be effectively controlled within gain variation of about 0.77 dB by simulation and measurement.

Considering a nonlinear high power amplifier(HPA) and a predistorter, we have designed a four-dimensional 8-ary phase shift keying trellis-coded modulation(4D-8PSK-TCM) system, which is recommended for X-band satellite communications. Subsequently, we have evaluated and analyzed the spectrum, constellation characteristics, and BER performance of the system. In satellite communications, owing to the limited power, nonlinear characteristics that determine the operating point of the HPA must be analyzed because the HPA consumes high power. We herein report the design of the 4D-8PSK-TCM system, with efficiencies of 2 and 2.25 bits/channel-symbol. The simulation results confirmed that a 0.35 roll-off value is effective, considering the low peak-to-average power ratio(PAPR) characteristic and the narrow occupation bandwidth of the spectrum. It also confirmed that approximately 15~20 dB of output backoff(OBO) value is required at the HPA when the predistorter is not used, and approximately 1 dB of the OBO value is required when the predistorter is used.

In accordance with a demand for high quality video streaming, it needs high data rate in limited bandwidth and more traffic congestion occurs. In particular, when providing real time video service, packet loss rate and bit error probability increase significantly. To solve these problems, a raptor code, which is one of FEC(Forward Error Correction) techniques, is pervasively used in the application layers as a method for improving real-time service quality. In this paper, we propose a method of determining image transmission parameters based on various deep neural networks to increase transmission efficiency at a similar level of image quality by using raptor codes. The proposed neural network uses the packet loss rate, video encoding rate and data rate as inputs, and outputs raptor FEC parameters and packet sizes. The results of the proposed method present that the throughput is 1.2% higher than that of the existing multimedia transmission technique by optimizing the transmission efficiency at a PSNR(Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio) level similar to that of the existing technique.
