Recent observations show that there are variations in light elements, such as C, N, O, and Na, between the sub-populations in most globular clusters in the Milky Way. In order to investigate their effects on the evolution of stars in globular clusters, we constructed new sets of isochrones and horizontal branch evolutionary tracks under different assumptions as to the abundance of N and O ([N/Fe] and [O/Fe], respectively). In this talk, we will present our preliminary results from these calculations.

Light weight superstructure is beneficial for bridges in remote areas and in emergency erection. In such weight sensitive applications, combination of fibre reinforced plastics (FRP) as material and box-girders as a structural system have great scope. This combination offers various options to tailor structure and its elements but this flexibility poses greater challenge in optimum design. In this paper a procedure is derived for a generalised optimum design of FRP box-girder bridges, using genetic algorithms (GA). The formulation of the optimum design problem in the form of objective function and constraints is presented. Size, configuration and topology optimization are done simultaneously. A few optimum design studies are carried out to check the performance of the developed procedure and to get trends in the optimum design which will be helpful to the new designers.

This study is an analysis about the typological characteristics of Luis Barragan's dwellings, especially on the masterpieces. For the purpose of grasps steam of his works, it classified into three categories ; landscape, space, and light-color. Through the analysis of the essential elements of his works, we can find that Barragan harmonize Mexican vernacular with modern, reason with sensitivity, geometry with landscape. It Is the recomposition of a tradition and identity, and it also can be a kind of solution of reinterpretation of history and tradition which we are faced with.

Green and plants, as it symbol the life and depute the nature, always give human an easy comfort psychologically. The paper is a brief analysis to the idea frame of urban construction and reform of Kunming through our practice about ten years. On which three main principles should be carefully considered. One is that the green-space composed of plant system is of the important infrastructure of a modern city as it can not be instead of by any other factor in the ecological system of the city. The other is that in the course of planning and construction the local feature as well as its culture tradition in history should be pied more attention. In order to create a distinguish character of itself the third may be more important that to coordinate each key elements of it such as green, water, light, building, road, etc., to get a harmonious sphere of human and nature. A modern city should be a green city in which nature and man co-exist harmoniously.

The use of conventional Twyman and Fizeau interferometers inevitably fails in testing high precision optics because of errors always existing in reference elements producing the reference wavefront. Therefore it is necessary to apply to this task the interferometers of a radically new type, which are able to produce perfect reference wavefront with the help of light diffraction by a small obstacle or pinhole. In this paper new theoretical approaches and schematics of point diffraction interferometers are considered in detail with paying attention to constructive reliability. Such interferometers do not use reference optical surfaces and readily provide adequate estimation of errors and aberrations value of 0.01 wavelengths.

Analyzing pentacene field effect transistors (FETs) with Au source and drain electrodes as Maxwell-Wagner effect elements, electron and hole injection from the Au electrodes into the FET channel were examined using current-voltage (I-V), capacitance-voltage (C-V) and optical second harmonic generation (SHG) measurements. Based on these results, a mechanism of the hole and electron injection into pentacene from the Au electrodes and subsequently recombination mechanism with light-emitting in the pentacene layer are discussed, with taking into account the presence of trapped charges.

In this paper, a method based on the Genetic Algorithm(GA) for phase optimization is proposed. The programmable hybrid optical interconnection system implemented by the spatial light modula-tor is tested for a near-real-time optical processing. Designed diffractive grating has a 74.7[%] high diffraction efficiency and a $1.73 {\times}10^{-1}$ uniformity quantitatively. The dependence of characteris-tics on several parameters in the grating design are analyzed. Also, as a result of the geometrical transformation to obtain quantitative data for $3 {\times} 3$ spot beams, an objective optical experiment using CCD array detector produces the mean of beam intensity as a gray level of 202, the maximum value is 225, the minimum value is 186, and uniformity is quantitatively $1.93 {\times} 10^{-1}$, similar to the simulation result.

The $TiO_2$ films were prepared in the $H_2SO_4$ solution containing $NH_4F$ at different anodic voltages, to compare the photocatalytic performances of titania for purification of waste water. The microstructure was characterized by a Field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) and X-ray diffractometry (XRD). Chemical bonding states and co-doped elements of F and N were analyzed using surface X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The photocatalytic activity of the co-doped $TiO_2$ films was analyzed by the degradation of aniline blue solution. From the result of diffuse reflectance absorption spectroscopy(DRS), it is indicated that the absorption edge of the F-N-codoped $TiO_2$ films shifted toward visible light area, and the photocatalytic reaction of $TiO_2$ was improved by doping an appropriate contents of F and N.

Zinc Oxide (ZnO) films have attracted considerable attention for transparent conducting films, because of their high conductivity, good optical transmittance from UV to near IR as well as a low-cost fabrication. To increase the conductivity of ZnO, doping of group III elements (Al, Ga, In and B) has been carried out. Transparent conducting films have been applied for optoelectric devices, the development of the transparent conducting thin films on flexible light-weight substrates are required. In this research, the transparent conducting ZnO thin films doped with Aluminum (Al) on polymer substrates were deposited by the RF magnetron suputtering method, and the structural, optical and electrical properties were investigated.

The CFRP composite has a lot of merits such as mechanical characteristic, light and thermal resistance. For these merits, CFRP is applied to so many industrial area. In order to use the composite materials in the aircraft structures or machine elements, accurate surfaces for bearing mounting or joints must be provided, which require precise, machining. In this study, the specimens differentiating the stacking sequence of 5kinds were used. When drilling the carbon fiber reinforced plastics, it was checked on whether the stacking sequence reached any effect on the cutting force. Also relationship between the drill diameter is examined from the drilling experiment, which is the drilling of Fabric, Unidirectional specimen with ∅6mm, ∅10mm, ∅12mm cemented carbide drill. Considering cutting force and drilling diameter, the results are analyzed.
