  • This study attempted to design lights with Type II distribution suitable for LED street lights based on the regulations of street light distribution developed by the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA). The shape of an asymmetric lens, different from that of a rotationally symmetric lens, cannot be generated using a simple mathematical formula. In the first trial, the outline of the lens was fixed and simulated to confirm the distribution type. Following ISENA regulations, some problems that occurred during simulations and repeating was be modified that process is how we detected errors. Through optical research and simulations, a lens conforming to the regulations of Type II very short, Type II short, and Type II medium distributions was developed. A prototype was developed using simulation data and it was subjected to distribution tests. The results show that it can compare with property of Type II distribution.

  • Poly(hydroxyethyl methacrylate)-based hydrogels were surface-functionalized with spiropyran (SP) derivatives to obtain photochromic contact lenses. The contact lens reversibly changes from colorless to purple as response to UV light since colorless ring-closed SP state converts to purple ring-opened merocyanine (MC) state under UV light irradiation. The purple contact lens emits red light at 640 nm. Importantly, the presence of SP segments did not significantly affect the equilibrium water content (EWC) of the lens. SP-functionalized hydrogel lenses may find potential applications in developing light-adaptive ophthalmic materials.

  • When we follow the lines of the trajectory of photons which intersect the circle, the circle may suffer some deformation as approaching to the observer. We consider an infinitesimal light bundle suffering gravitational bending. We examine the deformation of the deflected light bundle due to the gravitational lens. The size of the deformation is expressed in terms of the focal length of the gravitational lens.

  • An integral imaging system enabling enhanced depth of field by incorporating a pair of liquid-crystal (LC) lens arrays was proposed and demonstrated. The lens arrays exhibit two different refractive indexes depending on the light polarization. The proposed LC lens array I and II were implemented by depositing a ZLI-4119 LC and an E-7 LC, respectively, on top of a lens-array substrate in glass. When the two LC lens arrays were aligned appropriately, a birefringence was obtained for a specific light polarization in such a way that the incoming light sees different refractive indexes for them. As a result, the focal length associated with the imaging system utilizing the LC lens arrays was adaptively varied, thereby enhancing the depth of field for the image reconstruction. We have theoretically analyzed the proposed integral imaging system with the $LightTools^{(R)}$ to confirm that the focal length could be adjusted with the help of the birefringent lens array. Finally the proposed imaging system successfully reconstructed the objects. The birefringent lens array employing the ZLI-4119 LC produced a real image with the focal length of 680 mm, while the other using the E-7 LC yielded a virtual image with the focal length of -29 mm.

  • LCD-BLU (Back Light Unit) is one of kernel parts of LCD unit. The fabrication method of a 3-D micro mold patterned with micro-lenses for the LGP (Light Guiding Plate), one of the most important parts of LCD-BLU, was presented. Instead of dot pattern made by etching, 3-D optical pattern design with $50{\mu}m$ micro-lens was applied in the present study. The micro-lens pattern fabricated by modified LiGA with thermal reflow process was applied to the optical design of LGP. The positive micro-lens patterned injection mold with different aspect ratios (i.e. 0.3 and 0.4) was fabricated with modified LiGA with thermal reflow process. The brightness of LCD-BLU increased as aspect ratio of micro-lens increased.

  • In the indirect optical bio-telemetry, high frequency response and low minimum detectable optical power can be achieved by using photodiode with small light receiving area which minimizes junction capacitance. But, on the other hand, S/N ratio becomes low because the optical signal current is small. To solve such a problem, we attach plato-convex lens in front of photo diode, The results of comput- er simulation and experiments suggest promotion of light receiving efficiency and possibility of multi- telemetry system through directivity of convex lens in one room.

  • In this study we researched a spotlight in LED lighting. Ordinary LED spotlight was manufactured with characterized property of traveling straightness of LED light source, but multiple use of shell type LED, a yellow band has formed caused by light source interference between the LED. Also, there was a high miscellaneous light efficiency with losing light source homogeneity and efficiency due to light source control uneasiness. The study uses aspheric reflector and aspheric lens, so we can control the light source of LED spotlight with effectively and we reached surface light source by using COB/COM for LED module. Furthermore it can change its use by a reduced scale of light system. It has been designed to make its various application from low power consumption of bicycle lamp, up to high power consumption of automobile lamps and lighthouse.

  • This System is developed for the estimation of the Camera Lens Resolution. Signal data proportional to light intensity is obtained and sampled from the 2D CCD. Based on the measured signal. the MTF charateristcs of a camera lens are measured. We could measure the sagittal and tangential MTF in the on and off-axis at the same time. The automatic measurig methods for optimal image plane, magnification, and best marginal direction of test lens are presented.

  • This paper reports the fabrication of a lenticular liquid crystal (LC) lens array with thermally tunable focus and with the function of a convertible lens type, using the surface structure of a UV-curable polymer and a twisted-nematic (TN) LC cell. The TN LC cell makes the LC lenticular lens function as a converging or diverging lens by controlling electrically the polarization of input light. Therefore, the focal lengths for both the converging and diverging lenses, which can be switched from the TN cell, can be tuned by changing the effective refractive index of the LC by Joule heating of the transparent electrode. As a result, the focal length of the lens with the E7 LC was changed continuously from 8.7 to 31.2 mm for the converging lens type and from -9.8 to -14.2 mm for the diverging lens when the temperature was increased from 25 to $56^{\circ}C$.

  • A water sterilization system is developed utilizing a 275 nm-wavelength LED light source equipped with a TIR lens. The system's light source is constructed by combining a 275 nm-wavelength UVC LED, known for its germicidal properties, with a TIR lens having a direction angle of 6.8 degrees. The optical simulation software 'LightTools' is employed to design and optimize the intensity of deep ultraviolet sterilizing light irradiation, its distribution, and sterilization capacity. In the inactivation experiment with E. coli, the water sterilizer system achieved a sterilization rate of 78.92 % while maintaining a water flow capacity of 50 L/min. Compared to the conventional mercury lamp light source water sterilizer system, the UVC LED water sterilizer system addresses environmental concerns related to mercury usage and offers advantages in terms of lifespan and durability.
