Many research groups have studied tandem or multi-junction cells to overcome this low efficiency and degradation. In multi-junction cells, band-gap engineering of each absorb layer is needed to absorb the light at various wavelengths efficiently. Various absorption layers can be formed using multi-junctions, such as hydrogenated amorphous silicon carbide (a-SiC:H), amorphous silicon germanium (a-SiGe:H) and microcrystalline silicon (${\mu}c$-Si:H), etc. Among them, ${\mu}c$-Si:H is the bottom absorber material because it has a low band-gap and does not exhibit light-induced degradation like amorphous silicon. Nevertheless, ${\mu}c$-Si:H requires a much thicker material (>2 mm) to absorb sufficient light due to its smaller light absorption coefficient, highlighting the need for a high growth rate for productivity. ${\mu}c$-SiGe:H has a much higher absorption coefficient than ${\mu}c$-Si:H at the low energy wavelength, meaning that the thickness of the absorption layer can be decreased to less than half that of ${\mu}c$-Si:H. ${\mu}c$-SiGe:H films were prepared using 40 MHz very high frequency PECVD method at 1 Torr. SiH4 and GeH4 were used as a reactive gas and H2 was used as a dilution gas. In this study, the ${\mu}c$-SiGe:H layer for triple solar cells applications was performed to optimize the film properties.
$La/TiO_2$ - graphene composites were synthesized in this study, and applied to the photocatalytic degradation of Rhodamine B (RhB) under UV-visible light irradiation. X-ray diffraction (XRD), surface analysis, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analysis demonstrated that $La/TiO_2$ nanoparticles were well distributed on the surface of graphene, and formed the heterostructure of $La/TiO_2$-graphene. Compared to the pure $TiO_2$, $La/TiO_2$-graphene composites displayed much higher photocatalytic activities in RhB degradation under UV-visible light irradiation. The photocatalytic data of $La/TiO_2$-graphene composites exhibit extended light absorption in the visible light region, and possess better charge separation capability than that of pure $TiO_2$. The high photocatalytic activity was attributed to the composite's high adsorptivity, extended light absorption, and increased charge separation efficiency, due to the excellent electrical properties of graphene, and the large surface contact between graphene and $La/TiO_2$ nanoparticles.

This paper presents a portable and compact optical device which can conveniently be used to perform a functional analysis of human liver function. The proposed system employed red/green LEDs, as a light source, and CMOS image sensor, which is commonly used in cellular phones. With this system, several blood serum samples have been evaluated for liver functional analysis by measuring light absorption level through the blood serum samples depending on aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), and total bilirubin concentration. The light absorption through the blood serum samples containing AST, ALT, or total bilirubin can provide their concentrations. The green light absorption is more sensitive to the concentration of AST or ALT, and the red light absorption is more sensitive to the total bilirubuin concentration. Additional calibration steps were performed by using a MATLAB program in order to eliminate the light scattering effects from the extraneous particles existing in each blood serum sample. From the blind test, three standard light intensity curves through each enzyme have been obtained and the enzyme concentration values have been compared to those obtained from a commercially available biochemistry analyzer (Toshiba 200 FR). The average percent difference in the obtained concentrations from two systems for AST, ALT, and total bilirubin concentration came out to be 7.79%, 7.98%. and 7.56%, respectively, with the adjusted coefficient of determination (R2) higher than 0.98. This system can possibly lead to a low-cost and simple system that can be used as a point-of-care (POC) system in a condition without advanced equipments.
A green mutant of Rhodobacter sphaeroides 60I was acquired by chemical induction. The blue-shifted of the carotenoid absorption was found in the Light-harvesting complex II (LH2) of the mutant. With the excitation at different wavelength, we observed that the evolution of excited-state dynamics in LH2 of Rhodobacter sphaeroides 60I. The dynamical traces demonstrate a dominant absorption followed concomitantly by an ultrafast transmission increase and decay with 818nm excitation.
It was grown ZrO2:10 mol% Y2O3 single crystals doped with 1 wt% of rare earth metal ion (Ce, Pr, Nd, Er, Eu) by Skull Method. Grown crystals showed Ce:orange-red, Pr:golden-yellow, Nd:lilac, Er:pink, Eu:light pink due to dopant effect. It was examined color centers in light absorption pattern of visible region (λ= 300~700 nm); in as grown samples, absorption by Ce4+, (Pr4+, Pr3+), Nd3+, Er3+, Eu3+ ions were important, and in samples after vacuum annealing, decrease of absorption by Pr4+ ion and increase of absorption by Pr3+ ion was important, and absorption by Ce3+, Eu2+ was important due to reduction of activator.

This study was carried out to analyze the light and thermal environment in model greenhouse using infrared absorption film as shading screen and to compare with the case of no shading and using general shading screen such as aluminum foil-backed film, black polyethylene film and thermal blanket. PPFD(photosynthetic photon flux density) of inside the model greenhouse under infrared absorption film was increased by 22% than under general shading screen on the average. And temperature of inside air under infrared absorption film was 2$^{\circ}C$ lower than under general shading screen on the average. So, it is expected that infrared absorption film is useful as shading screen.

We have investigated dielectric dispersion and absorption in organic light-emitting diodes using 8-hydroxyquinoline aluminum($Alq_3$) as an electron transport and emissive material. We analyzed the dielectric dispersion and absorption of organic light emitting diodes using impedance characteristics measurement by the auto-balancing bridge technique of ITO/$Alq_3$/Al. Impedance characteristics was measured complex impedance Z and phase e in the frequency range of 40Hz to $10^8Hz$. We obtained dielectric constant and loss tangent (tan $\delta$) of the device. From these analyses, we are able to interpret a dielectric dispersion and dielectric absorption contributed by an interfacial and orientational polarization.
Photoresponsive side chain copolymer and homopolymer containing an aminonitroazobenzene were synthesized for studying photoisomerization behavior and photo-induced anisotropy. Trans-to-cis photoisomerization was observed under the exposure of a circularly polarized visible light with UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy. Reorientation of polar azobenzene molecules induced optical anisotropy under a linearly polarized light at 532nm. Polarized absorption spectroscopy was employed to investigate the anisotropy of the polymer film during irradiationg of the excitation light. Layers of two photosensitive polymers were used for aligning liquid crystal(LC) molecules instead of one of the rubbed polyimide layers in the conventional twisted nematic cell. For producing homogeneous alignment of a nematic LC molecule, a linearly polarized light was exposed to the films of two polymers. The stability of the LC alignment upon the linearly polarized light exposure was also studied.
Electron intersubband absorption in Sb $\delta$-doped Si(110)/SiGe multiple quantum well structures is observed. Normally incident light can excite electrons in Si(110) quantum wells, which is not possible for Si(001) or GaAs quantum wells. The influence of Ge composition in SiGe barries is investigated. As the Ge composition in SiGe barriers increases, the absorption strength is decreased and the transition energy is increased. It is verifired by comparing the calculated and experimental results obtained at various incident and polarization angles that normally incident light and parallel incident light are absorbed in different processes.
The photocatalytic decolorization of the Rhodamine B (RhB) was studied using a UV/TiO$_2$ reactor. Yakuri titanium dioxide(anatase) was used as the suspended photocatalyst and proved to be effective for decolorization irradiated with UV light (254 mm). The photocatalyzed dioxide concentrations, light intensity and air flow rates. In 0.01 mM RhB, color could be completely photodegraded after 3 hours. Absorption spectrum of an aqueous solution containing RhB showed a continued diminution of the RhB concentration in the solution bulk : concomitantly, no new absorption peaks appeared. This confirmed the decolorization of RhB, i.e., the break up of the chromopore. The optimum loaded titanium dioxide for the decolorization was 0.75 g/(equation omitted). The light intensity showed exponential decay with distance. The decay of light intensity of RhB solution showed different tendency from TiO$_2$. These results suggested that the photocatalytic decolorization of dyes may be available method for decolorizing in wastewater.
