This study was performed to compare the muscle activity of lumbar stabilizers between stoop and semi-squat lifting techniques at different lifting loads. Twenty healthy subjects (9 males, 11 females) were recruited for this study. Muscle activity of external obliques (EO), internal obliques (IO) and lumbar multifidus (LM) muscle was measured by surface electromyography during stoop and semi-squat lifting at different lifting loads (10%, 20%, and 30% of the subject's body weight). A one-way repeated measure ANOVA was applied. The results showed that EMG activity of EO was significantly increased with a load of 30% of body weight compared to 10% and 20% of body weight in both lifting techniques (p<.05). Muscle activity of LM was significantly increased in 20% compared to 10% and 30% compared to 10% of subject's body weight in stoop lifting and the muscle activity of LM was significantly increased in 20% compared to 10%, 30% compared to 20%, and 30% compared to 10% of the subject's body weight in semi-squat lifting (p<.05). However, there was no significant difference in activity of IO according to lifting loads in both lifting techniques. There were no significant differences in muscle activity of EO, IO, and LM between stoop and semi-squat technique (p>.05). Therefore, the results of this study suggested that the EO can contribute to increase the lumbar stability during stoop and semi-squat lifting at 30% of body weight rather than at lower loads, and the LM seems to act as counteractor to imposed loads during stoop and semi-squat lifting with increasing loads.

The increasing demands of lifting lugs can be attributed to the rapid advancement of shipbuilding and offshore-structure production technologies and an exponential increase in the size of the block units of ship structures. Therefore, to ensure safety during the transportation and turnover of large blocks, it is important to determine the structural integrity and position of lifting lugs. However, because the manufacturing cost and availability of lugs are important considerations, low cost and easily obtainable steel compositions of grades different from those of the blocks are often used as alternatives. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of a lifting-lug metal on the physical properties of a base metal in a dissimilar welding between the base metal and lifting lug. The effect was evaluated by observing the metal microstructures and determining the hardness and dilution values on the cross-sectional surface of the lifting lug. According to the results of the metal microstructures, impact, hardness, and emission spectrochemical analysis at the surface from where the lug was removed confirmed that the chemical composition of the lifting-lug metal did not influence the physical properties of the base metal.
Numerical simulations on the flowfield of lifting chamber for Wing-In-Ground vehicle were performed using Fluent/UNS 4.2 software. The trend of lifting force in lifting chamber and parametric study of geometric and fluid variables were primarily investigated. Selected parameters for investigation are inlet velocity, height between chamber and water level, depth of the skirt, location of inlet, variaton of height at bow and stern. Also, air capturing capabilities from downstream of the propeller were evaluated at the air inlet. The lifting force was increased linearly with the increased of inlet velocity and nonlinearly with the decrease of height force was increased with increased depth. It turned out to have very minor effect on lifting force to change the location of air inlet for lifting chamber, installed on top surface. Tilting the vehicle when it was lifted, the lifting forces, generated in each case, showed no appreciable changes.
With the fast growth of the shipbuilding industry, the number of lifting lugs used every year has reached onehundred. This paper is aimed at examining the cause of cracking in the hopper top plate, due to block lifting. First of all, we have investigated the fracture surface in the occurrence position of the crack of the hopper top plate, using the scanning electron microscope. In this study, we have evaluated the structural strength for COT super block under present lifting conditions. For this purpose, the equivalent stresses have been calculated by linear elastic analysis, using the finite element program ABAQUS.

The characteristics of LB ultra-thin film multi-layers were evaluated by the AT-cut quartz crystal. Cholesterol and phosphatidyl choline LB multi-layers were deposited on the surface of quartz crystal by using vertical lifting method and horizontal lifting method. There was good relationship between deposition ratio and frequency shift, and the frequency was more stable at the case of horizontal lifting method to the vertical lifting method.
For human factor engineering and wearable robot design, the quantitative assessment of physical workload is needed. Through measuring the surface EMG (sEMG) and analysis, the physical workload in overhead lifting posture is presented in quantitative manner. By normalizing sEMG activities with maximal voluntary contraction (MVC), the inter-subject variability is reduced. In all muscles, %MVC increased as the weight of lifting object increases. In anterior deltoid muscle, the %MVC was 3-4 times higher than the other muscles which imply that this muscle performs the major role in the overhead lifting posture. In fatigue analysis, %MVC and the mean frequency in muscle of anterior deltoid changed markedly when compared with other muscles. Through the suggested procedures and analysis, the physical workload for a specific posture can be represented in quantitative way but the clinical meaning for the value should be investigated further.
Explicit Kutta condition approximation, proved useful in existing time-domain solver of the unsteady propeller problem, requires a specified functional behavior of the vorticity in space near the trailing edge. In this paper, the strength of the discrete vortices is controlled to have a specified behavior in space in the frequency domain approach. A new formulation is introduced and is implemented for analysis of a lifting surface of a rectangular planform. Sample computations carried out according to the new formulation compares well with that of existing unsteady lifting problem in the time domain.
This research was conducted to determine the optimum lifting positions on precast concrete slabs for precast concrete pavement construction, based on the analysis of concrete stress distribution under various lifting conditions. To analyze stresses in concrete slabs, the finite element method was implemented and a numerical model of the precast slab that was going to be used in the experimental construction was developed. Changes in the stress distribution due to the lifting angle were investigated because slab lifting is not always performed in the perpendicular direction to the slab surface. In addition, the effect of the lifting level, the distance between the neutral axis of the slab and the lifting point, on the stress distribution was investigated since the lifting point is not always at the neutral axis of the slab. To consider the actual steel design of the precast slab, the effect of the reinforcement near the lifting point was also investigated. From this study, the optimum lifting positions of the precast slabs were determined according to the lifting angle and level, and the results were compared with the lifting positions used in the PCI standards.
This paper implements a system that monitors human body lifting information in the event of a marine accident. The monitoring system performs ultrasonic communication through a lifting device controller that transmits underwater environment information, and LoRa communication is performed on the water to provide GPS information within 10 km to the control center or mother ship. The underwater lifting controller transmits pneumatic sensor, gyro sensor, and temperature sensor information. In an environment where the underwater conditions increase by one atmosphere of water pressure every 10m in depth, and the amount of air in the instrument decreases by half compared to land, a model of a 60kg underwater mannequin is used. Using one 38g CO2 cartridge in the lifting appliance SMB(Surface Maker Buoy), carry out a lifting appliance discharge test based on the water level rise conditions within 10 sec. Underwater communication constitutes a data transmission environment using a 2,400-bps ultrasonic sensor from a depth of 40m to 100m. The monitoring signal aims to ensure the safety and safe human structure of the salvage worker by providing water depth, water temperature, and directional angle to rescue workers on the surface of the water.
This study examined the muscle fatigue of the erector spinae according to box size during lifting activity. Ten healthy adult man participated in the experiment for lifting the boxes 10 times with 0.2 lift/s frequency. Bilateral surface EMG (Electomyogtamphy) recordings were made regarding M. (Muscle) Longissimus, M. Iliocostal and M, Multifidus activity throughout lifting working. The median frequency in back muscle fatigue was investigated using power spectral analysis of surface EMG. When the box larger than shoulder width was lifted, the muscle fatigue of M, Multifidus was shown larger than one of the other muscles. Accordingly, the result far M. Multifidus can be applied in optimizing design parameter of box. Also, the standard of box width for box makers have to be below about 420 mm, being average shoulder width of adult male.
