2차원 평판날개에서의 Tripwire가 공력에 미치는 영향 (Aerodynamics of a 2-D Flat-plate Airfoil with Tripwire)

  • In this paper, we experimentally investigated the effects of attached cylindrical tripwires on the aerodynamic performance. The research was carried out with a simple two-dimensional (2-D) rectangular airfoil fabricated from thin flat-plate aluminium, with elliptical leading and trailing edges. Tripwires of varying widths and thicknesses, and attack angles of $-5^{\circ}{\sim}20^{\circ}$ were used to investigate the aerodynamic characteristics (e.g. lift and drag forces) of the airfoil. We found that attaching the tripwires to the lower surface of the airfoil enhanced the lift force and increased the lift-to-drag ratio for low attack angles. However, attaching the tripwires to the upper surface tended to have the opposite effects. Moreover, we found that attaching the tripwires to the trailing edge had similar effects as a Gurney flap. The aerodynamic characteristics of the flat-plate airfoil with tripwires can be used to develop passive control devices for aircraft wings in order to increase their aerodynamic performance when gliding at low attack angles.

  • The aerodynamic features of a pantograph of a high speed train are analyzed according to shapes of pantograph covers. For this purpose, two types of pantograph covers were selected: a wedge type cover and a cone type cover. Then, the change of the aerodynamic forces of the pantograph affected by each type of the pantograph cover was computed. These results were compared with the original lift force of the pantograph. From the results, the cone type cover changes the flow direction from side to side compared with the wedge type cover. Consequently, it is confirmed that the effect of the wedge type cover on the lift force of pantograph is smaller than that of the cone type cover.

  • This paper presents experimental results of the attitude control for a two-rotor system with 3-DOF(degree-of-freedom). Two DC motors are equipped at the two ends of a rectangular beam to generate lift force and the relation between motor voltage and lift force is found experimentally. And inertial sensors are mounted at the center of the beam to measure the roll angle and a complementary filter is designed to get the angle during DC motors driving. A controller with nonlinear compensation, integrator and state feedback to achieve asymptotic tracking for a step input and reject input disturbance is designed and experimented.

코안다 시스템이 장착된 안정기용 핀의 성능해석 (Performance Analysis of Stabilizer Fin Applied Coanda System)

  • Stabilizer fins are installed on each side of a ship to control its roll motion. The most common stabilizer fin is a rolling control system that uses the lift force on the fin surface. If the angle of attack of a stabilizer fin is zero or the speed is zero, it cannot control the roll motion. The Coanda effect is well known to generate lift force in marine field. The performance of stabilizer fin that applies the Coanda effect has been verified by model tests and numerical simulations. It was found that a stabilizer fin that applied the Coanda effect at Cj = 0.085 and a zero angle of attack exactly coincided with that of the original fin at α = 26°. In addition, the power needed to generate the Coanda effect was not high compared to the motor power of the original stabilizer fin.

  • The paper presents an improved way of aerodynamic quality in Korean Very High Speed Railway, The pantograph model being under development dissatisfies the required grade of aerodynamic lift force. So the present work proposes modified configurations of panheads to maintain consistent aerodynamic characteristics. Analysis has been performed using commercial CFD program. Simulation based analysis has been conducted with two different models. One is to attach the thin plate on the crossbar and the other is the use of trapezoidal cross section in contact strip. Various length of thin plate is simulated for flow velocity and acceptable value of plate length is selected which satisfy the necessary average lift force. Aerodynamic variation on the panheads strip is studied.

  • Nonlinear Vortex Strength Correction Method is developed for improvement of vortex lattice method which can't calculate the separated flow conditions and the viscous effect. In this method, the vortex strength on the blade surface is determined by matching the lift force from vortex lattice method with the lift force from aerodynamic coefficients table as the same circulation is added to or subtracted from all chord wise vortices. For considering the nonlinearities due to the neighboring blade sections, sophisticated Newton-Rapson algorithm is applied. The validation of this method was done by comparing the simulations with the measurements on the NREL Phase-VI horizontal axis wind turbine(HAWT) in the NASA Ames wind tunnel under uniform conditions. This method gives good agreements with experiments in most cases.

  • Results of a numerical simulation of a flowing of the underwater vehicles hull with the pump-jet nozzle are presented. It was calculate velocity distributions and coefficients of the lift force and the longitudinal moment of the hull with the pump-jet nozzle and isolated hull for some values of angle of attack. It was shown that the area of tile influence of the nozzle on the velocities distribution of the hull and character of changing of coefficients of the lift force and the longitudinal moment and their derivatives depending on angle of attack.

  • Direct numerical simulation is conducted to observe the behavior of microbubbles in isotropic turbulence. Navier-Stokes equation and the motion of equation for microbubbles are solved with periodic boundary condition in a cube domain. Vorticity contour, enstrophy ratio, relative reduction of bubble rise velocity, and the closest distance of particles are investigated for various Stokes numbers and gravity factors to understand clustering of microbubbles. Also, clustering due to the effect of the lift force is investigated.

  • In this paper, an analysis of lift and lateral forces as a function of speed in electromagnetic suspension system (EMS) using the finite element method is presented. It is shown that, as in the case of the lift force, the lateral restoring force decreases with increasing speed, and the lateral dynamic characterisitic for lateral disturbance at low speed is different from that at high speed.

쇼트피닝한 스프링강의 피로균열진전 연구 (A Study of Fatigue Crack Growth in Shot Peened Spring Steel)

  • Antifatigue failure technology take an important the part of current industries. Currently, the shot peening is used for removing the defect from the surface of steel and improving the fatigue strength on surface. Therefore in this paper the effect of compressive residual stress by shot peening on fatigue crack growth characteristics in stress ratio(R=0.1, 0.3, 0.6)was investigated with considering fracture mechanics. There is difference between shot peening specimen and unpeening specimen. Fatigue crack growth rate of shot peening specimen was lower than that of unpeening specimen. Fatigue lift shows more improvement in the shot peening material than in the unpeening material. And compressive residual stress of surface on the shot peening processed operate resistance force of fatigue crack propagation. That is the constrained force about plasticity deformation was strengthened by resultant stress, which resulted from plasticity deformation and compressive residual stress in the process of fatigue crack propagation.
