Experience of Agent Orange and Depression and Quality of Life: Mixed Method (고엽제 노출 경험과 우울 및 삶의 질: 통합방법론)

  • Objective: This study used a mixed methods analytical approach to analyze the level of depression in and quality of life of patients who had been exposure to Agent Orange. Methods: Data on the general characteristics, depression level, and the quality of life of 29 patients who were hospitalized because of exposure to Agent Orange were collected. Focus group interviews were conducted with 17 of these 29 patients. Regarding mixed methods, the sequential integrated design model proposed by Teddlie and Tashakkori (2003) was employed. The analytical methods were as follows: (1) general characteristics were examined using frequencies and proportional distributions; (2) depression scores and quality of life scores were assessed using descriptive statistical analysis; and (3) content analysis was used to examine the focus group interview data. Results: The average K-GDS depression score was 19.24 points, and the average WHOQOL-BREF quality of life score was 57.66 points. The focus group interview data yielded 3 topics were named "deployment route", "the manner of exposure to Agent Orange", and "life after Agent Orange exposure". Conclusion: There is an urgent need to increase public awareness, develop a public policy response, and conduct additional research on ground occupational therapy programs that include physical therapy.

A Study on the Needs for Housewives' Educational Program (주부교육프로그램에 대한 요구도 분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the housewives' needs for educational program. In this study the needs lot housewives educational program are consisted on 3 areas ; 1. program contents, 2. program management and 3. program activization plan. For the survey and statistical analysis the questionares from 445 full-time housewives who participate in educational program at present are used. The results of this study are following; 1, in the area of program contents the needs for housing/health, nutrition, family life planning for elderly stage and enhancement of parents-children relationship are very high. This contents are very related with research topics of human ecology. So the researcher of our science are expected to be involved more in the related program development and actualization in the field. 2. in the area of program management the needs for the concret management process such as human resource management and education period are much higher than the educational provision. 3. in the area of program activization the systematization of the program incording with program level is most needed. 4. the housewive who are keeping the social characteristics such as social orientation, the motivation of social integration, the participation in the social-oriented educational program have higher needs for the most entire program contents, management and activization plan.

Analysis of International Research Trends on Metaverse

  • This study attempted to explore the realization and research direction of a successful metaverse environment in the future by analyzing international research trends of the metaverse using topic modeling. A total of 208 papers among WoS and ScienceDirect papers using metaverse as keywords were selected, and quantitative frequency analysis and topic modeling were performed. As a result, it was confirmed that research has rapidly increased after 2022. The main keywords of the research topics were 'second', 'life', 'learning', 'reality', 'metaverse', 'virtual', 'blockchain', 'nft', 'medical', 'avatar', etc. The topic keywords 'Second life & Education' and 'Virtual Reality & Medical' accounted for a large proportion of 57%, followed by 'Blockchain & Cryptocurrency', 'Avatar & Interaction', and 'Sensing and Device'. As a result of semantic analysis, current metaverse research is focused on application and utilization, and research on underlying technologies and devices is also active. Therefore, it is necessary to identify the commonalities and differences between domestic and foreign studies, and to study the application method considering the domestic environment. In addition, new jurisprudence research is more necessary along with predicting new problems. It is expected that the results of study will provide the right research direction for domestic researchers in the era of digital transformation and contribute to the realization of a digital society.

A Comparison Between the Perceptions of Elementary Gifted Child and Science Teacher about the Good Science Class (좋은 과학 영재 수업에 대한 학생과 교사의 생각 비교)

  • This study compares the perceptions of elementary gifted child and science teacher in a science class for the gifted. In order to explore the research problem, students and teachers answered a written semi-structured questionnaire and participated in interviews regarding the gifted science class. The data was collected and analyzed. Science teachers recognized the characteristics of a good science class, especially in terms of educational content and teaching methodology. First, they suggested promoting inquiry skills, presenting a challenging task in atypical topic selection, student-centered curriculum, and controlling the pace of learning to recognize individual differences. Second, in terms of the science class skills and attitudes category, teachers recommended raising mutual satisfaction through vigorous interaction within a permissible atmosphere. Finally, science teachers need to strive for continued professional growth. Gifted children, meanwhile, want to investigate a wide range of topics without time constraints. Additionally, they may have to explore challenging topics further. They prefer to act like scientists in that they enjoy group activities, communication and cooperation. In particular, they want to be evaluated by others in a totally embedded assessment. Gifted children also expect teachers to understand the life circumstances and needs of the students. In addition, they asked for teachers to respect individual experiments and to show them how to safely use new equipment or research methods. As a result, gifted children and science teachers have to recognize the differences of opinion concerning a good science class for the gifted. This study can help formulate strategies to establish quality management of materials in gifted science classes.

Model Construction of Sexual Adjustment of Patients with Spinal Cord Injury (척수장애인의 성적적응과 관련요인에 관한 모형구축)

  • The purpose of this study was to construct model of sexual adjustment in people with spinal cord injury and to determine factors that relate to sexual adjustment using methodological triangulation. A total of 134 persons who were registered members of spinal cord injury organization and admitted rehabilitation unit in the hospital were included in the study. Participants answered questionnaire concerning importance of life events, sexual concern, sexual adjustment. Qualitative data were collected through semi-structured indepth interviews from 10 individuals with spinal cord injury who were previously included in the quantitative study. Constant compatative method was used to analyze the data. The results were as follows : 1) With respect to eleven other areas of life, sex life ranked the sixth and economic status ranked the highest in terms of importance. However social life ranked the lowest among the 11areas. 2) Among seven topics related to sexuality were methods and techniques to achieve sexual satisfaction, and helping a partner cope emotionally with limitation on sexual dysfunction was the second greastest. 3) The mean score for sexual adjustment was 19.47 which can be considered. 4) A process on how individuals with spinal cord injury adjust to their changed sexual life immerged from the qualitative data. It includs 4 stages: 'stage of loss' 'stage of endeavoring' 'stage of effort' and 'stage of adjustment'. Categories showing context for the action/interaction strategies were 'steadiness' and 'rediscovery as a sexual being'. There were three factors which may stimulate the adjustment process while the others may interrupt it. Those factors included personal matters, family matters and social matters. The individuals may follow each stage step by step but may go back to the previous step depending on the outcomes of their adjustment. 5) There were three factors which may stimulate the adjustment process while the others may interrupt it. Parent's Behavior and Perception of Their Kids' Snacking Behavior and Dietary Life Education (초등학생 학부모들의 자녀 간식 및 식생활 교육에 대한 실태 및 인식)

  • The objective of this study was to investigate parents' behavior and attitudes regarding their kids' snacking and dietary life education. A survey was conducted with the parents (N=412) of elementary students from seven provinces, includeing Seoul, Busan, Daegu, Kwangju, Gyungnam, Chungnam, and Kangwon. Kids' snacks consisted mainly of purchased foods rather than homemade foods. Parents' main concerns regarding kids' snacks were nutrition (44.9%), taste (24.3%), and safety (23.5%). Over 50% of parents checked food labels, especially expiration date (96.4%), food ingredients (49.5%), and food additives (33.5%). The snack items frequently provided to kids were fruits (62.8%), milk (55.5%), bread (47.1%), and snack items (23.3%). Parents responded that the amount of their kids' snacking was adequate (47.8%), small (33.7%), or large (18.2%). The results show that more research is needed regarding the adequacy of kids' snacking, considering that 15.7% and 22.4% of the children ate more and less, respectively, than their daily energy requirement. 76.5% of the parents performed home education regarding their kids' dietary habits, especially on the topics of 'balanced diet' (83.9%), 'healthful food' (53.7%), and 'eating three meals a day' (40.2%). Parents obtained dietary information from TV (65.2%), internet (12.0%), and newspapers (7.0%). From this study, we found that parents perceived their kids' snacking behavior correctly, and considered home-education for their kids' dietary habits positively. However, the information resources were limited, which makes it necessary to develop parents' education programs.

Investigating 6th Grade Students' Ideas about the Action of Force through an Analysis of their 'Typically-Perceived-Situation (TPS)' (전형적 인식상황(TPS)' 분석을 통한 6학년 학생들의 힘의 작용에 관한 생각 조사)

  • For effective conceptual teaching (or teaming) of physics, it needs to know more information about students' ideas related to specific topics. The purpose of this study was to investigate 6th grade students' various ideas about the actions of force, especially' the situation where force is being acted', and' the situation where force is not being acted', through the analysis of their 'Typically-Perceived-Situation (TPS)'. The TPSs of 152 6th grade students were collected with a drawing-and-explanation type questionnaire, and their TPSs about the action of force were categorized by the background, the subject, the object, the action, and the result of action, etc. It was found that most of students' ideas about 'force is being acted' were related to the situation where the impact by or on human body caused to the change of position in familiar everyday life scene. Thus their ideas were strong related to human body, including sensual factors such as 'pain'. And it also was found that most of students' ideas about 'force is not being acted' were in a strong relation to familiar everyday life situations there is no change of position because force was not given by a human body, or energy was not supplied. Most students thought that force is similar to energy which should be supplied from outside or generated by itself. These results suggest that the teaching strategies focused on familiar everyday life background including sensual factors and human body need to be explored in conceptual loaming of physics.

Latest Information Technologies in the UK Adults Education System

  • Today, further education of adults in the UK is one of the developing areas of continuing education. The Open University with distance learning, in the process of which innovative forms and methods based on computer and telecommunication technologies are used, is particularly successful in the organization of additional education of the adult population. The advantages of distance learning, multimedia - the latest information technologies, which provide the combination of graphic images, video, sound with the help of modern computer tools, are noted. The basic principles and forms underlying the technologies and forms of work with the elderly are defined. The international experience of implementing "Universities of the Third Age" is summarized. The most widespread approach in adult education in Great Britain is informational. The use of computer technologies motivates a new paradigm in educational methods and strategies, which requires new approaches, forms of learning, and innovative ways of delivering educational materials to adult learners. Information technologies have gained great popularity in such activities as distance learning, online learning, assistance in the education management system, development of programs and virtual textbooks in various subjects, online search for information for the educational process, computer testing of students' knowledge, creation of electronic libraries, formation of a single scientific electronic environment, publication of virtual magazines and newspapers on pedagogical topics, teleconferences, expansion of international cooperation in the field of Internet education. The information technology of synchronous distance learning "online" has gained considerable popularity in the educational process today. A promising direction is the use of multimedia technologies in educational activities to create a design of a virtual computer environment by decoding audiovisual information.

Analysis on Research Trends in Sport Facilities: Focusing on SCOPUS DB (스포츠시설에 관한 연구 동향 분석: SCOPUS DB를 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study is to explore trends in research at home and abroad related to "Sport Facilities", and seek the direction of further research. 1,801 abstracts of papers including "Sport Facilities" were collected from the SCOPUS DB from 2016 to 2020. Topic modeling techniques based on Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) algorithm implemented in R language, TD-IDF techniques, and word cluds using Tagxedo was conducted to analyze the data. As a result, 8 topics were optimally determined, and "sports", "facilities", "health", "physical", "data", and "using" were derived as the main keywords for topics. This results indicated that studies on physical activity, health and using facilities regarding sports facilities at home and abroad have been actively carried out in recent years. This indicates that papers in SCOPUS DB are paying attention to the instrumental value of sport facilities, such as health promotion and improving the quality of life. Therefore, various studies that help participants who use sport facilities for a healthy life should be continuously conducted in the future.

Literature Review of Cognitive Developmental Interventions on Patients with Breast Cancer undergoing Chemotherapy (항암화학요법 유방암환자의 인지기능 증진 중재에 대한 논문 분석)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze the trend of cognitive developmental interventions on patients with breast cancer who underwent chemotherapy. Methods: The researcher searched databases and selected 17 literatures using chemotherapy, breast cancer, cognitive function and intervention as searching key words. Searched databases included Ovid, Pubmed, Proquest and Medline and data collection period was from January 2000 to May 2010. Results: Interventions for patients with breast cancer have been continuously developed and frequent research topics included breast cancer, chemotherapy, quality of life, and cognitive function. In terms of study design, four research articles were pre-experimental study designs, one was case study, and the rest of studies were non-equivalent pretest-posttest control group design. Effects of intervention were examined in only 5 studies among 17. The interventions were not found to have direct effects in cognitive improvement. Conclusion: It is needed to figure out the mechanism of cognitive deterioration of the patients with breast cancer who underwent chemotherapy. And nursing interventions needs to be developed in order to hold up the cognitive downhill and help their cognitive rehabilitation.
