  • Purpose: This study was to identify the influencing factors in postmenopausal women's bone mineral density (BMD). Method: The sample for the study was 107 postmenopausal women who took the BMD test. For BMD measurement, lumbar spine BMD(L2-5) was measured by Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry(DEXA). Data was collected by questionnaires on the selected variables such as reproductive factors and life style factors. Result: In reproductive factors, parity shows significant differences with BMD (F=4.16, p=.02). In life style factors, diet (F=3.01, p=.05) and exercise (F=7.39, p=.00) show significant differences with BMD. Excercise, diet and parity accounted for 42.0% of the influencing factors in Postmenopausal Women's Bone Mineral Density. Conclusion: The influencing factors in postmenopausal women's bone mineral density were excercise, diet and parity. In this paper, it is suggested that the influence of reproductive and life style factors in postmenopausal women's BMD should be studied by long term and needs repeated research. This study can be used as foundation material for nursing education program development for osteoporosis prevention and improvement.

Dye and bleach had a statistically significant relationship with the texture of hair, but not with socio-demographic characteristics and accessories, mood, shape of face and decision of hair-style. 5. Personality of tenacity, extroversion and introversion, emotion and falsehood had no statistically significant relationship with hair-style. • This study was carried out to compare influential life-style factors between Korean and Japanese women. with a view to providing basic data needed in the community nursing activities for the health promotion of women, The questionnaire survey was conducted between Jan 1 and April 15. 2000 on 64 Korean and 63 Japanese women who committed the care of their child to a day-care center because they had to go to work. The obtained results are as follows. 1. On the whole. there was little difference in the score of life-style factors between Korea and Japan. The areas in which Japanese women got a higher score were personal relationship and nutrition, and Korean women got a higher score in the area of self-realization. 2. Both in Korea and Japan. the degree of satisfaction with family life proved to be the most influential factor on the life-styles for the health promotion of women. This implies that the level of their practicing life styles for the health promotion becomes higher in proportion to the degree of satisfaction with their family life. In conclusion. considering the fact that the proportion of women workers has been on the increase in Korea. heath promotion services for women need to be treated more importantly, with the focus on the interpersonal relationship not only in family but also in work sites.

  • Purpose: To identify relationship between the life styles and optimistic bias about colorectal cancer (CRC) of adults. Methods: The participants were 338 adults who live in Seoul. The measurements were consisted optimistic bias about CRC and life styles. The life styles were included smoking, alcohol consumption, dietary habits, and CRC screening. Results: 30.5% of the participants regarded their possibility of CRC to be less than others, while 69.5% viewed their likelihood of CRC as at least the same as others. The optimistic bias about CRC was associated with alcohol consumption and dietary habits, but not with smoking and CRC screening. Conclusion: It is difficult to relate optimistic bias about CRC with life style since CRC inspection and alcohol consumption are negatively related with optimistic bias while displaying a positive relation in other aspects. Since the relationship between optimistic bias and life style can change, promotion of a healthy life style as part of a health program could be influential in lessening CRC.

  • Objectives : To analyse the psychosocial factors associated with hypertension management(drug treatment and life style modification) of newly detected cases and to understand and assess their behavioral intention or behaviors. Methods : The survey area was a combined urban and rural area in Chungnam province, Korea, and the sampling method was cluster sampling. Study subjects included 541 newly detected cases of hypertension rated above stage 2 by JNC-VI from a community survey. The first survey was applied to 383 of these patients in order to discern their psychosocial characteristics. A follow-up survey was given to 345 persons with an 11-month interval following monthly telephone counseling concerning medication and life style modification by trained nurses. The final study subjects for analysis comprised 271 persons after excluding cases of incomplete data and change of address. Results : Among the 85(33.2%) new patients who had intended to undergo drug treatment, 30(35.3%) persons were treated with antihypertensive agent after 11 - month interval, while among the patients with no intention to receive treatment, only 36(21.1%) persons were treated. Hypertensive patients with a high intention score revealed a high score in life style modification compliance as well. Seventy three percent of the variance of behavioral intention to undergo hypertension management was explained by the patients attitude toward performing the behavior and subjective norm associated with behaviors related to the theory of reasoned action in structural modeling. Actual behaviors related positively with behavioral intention. The coefficient of determination was 0.255. Conclusion : Improving the compliance level of hypertensive patients in respect to drug treatment or life style modification requires a build up of positive behavioral intention, and caregivers must pay more attention to eventually converting behavioral intention to actual behaviors.
