Innovation Policy has evolved to solve social problems through technological innovation. Industrial innovation policy promotes technological innovation so that it consolidates industrial competitiveness and aims at economic growth; however, societal innovation policy promotes technological innovation in the social service domain to improve the quality of life and strengthen sustainability. A different policy regime is required because the objectives and directions of societal innovation policy are different from those of industrial innovation policy. This report consolidates the concepts and characteristics of societal innovation policy that suggest policy options.

Purpose: This study aims to investigate the relationships between knowledge on advance directive, attitudes towards the withdrawal of life-sustaining treatment and quality of life among hemodialysis patients. Methods: A descriptive correlational study was conducted with 103 hemodialysis patients. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire from May to September of 2016, and analysed by using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA and Pearson correlation coefficient. Results: The participants' knowledge level on advance directive was $5.47{\pm}2.08$ out of 9, the attitudes towards the withdrawal of life-sustaining treatment was $3.22{\pm}0.49$ out of 5, and the quality of life was $3.35{\pm}0.92$ out of 6. The knowledge on advance directive was positively correlated with attitudes towards the withdrawal of life-sustaining treatment (r=.21, p=.037) and quality of life (r=.21, p=.036). Conclusion: According to the results of this study, the level of knowledge on advance directive is preferred to improve the quality of life of hemodialysis patients. It is needed to support and maintain ongoing education opportunities in order to improve the level of knowledge on advance directive among patients undergoing hemodialysis.

Additionally, the study identified significant results regarding the influence of quality of life on city evaluation, life satisfaction, and the expected growth of the city. Objectives: Because of the changing life style of Koreans, we have witnessed an increase of patients with back pain. The development of medical knowledge and technology has resulted in more numerous and better treatment methods. However, the outcomes of diverse treatments have been examined by using a few medicine-oriented measures like pain. This study aims at identifying the factors that influence the outcomes of back pain treatments by using two outcome measures (e.g., quality of life and pain). Methods: We used the questionnaire survey method for data collection. The questionnaires contained 5 categories (treatment methods, clinical conditions, exercise, quality of life and, socio-demographic characteristics). We interviewed 188 back pain patients. We used the regression analysis method to predict the quality of life or pain. Results: Surgery showed a statistically significant effect on the quality of life as well as pain. The illness period, age and exercise were turned out to be significant factors for both of the dependent variables. The social class and surgery methods showed a statistically significant effect solely on the quality of life. Conclusions: In choosing the surgical methods, doctors need to provide detailed explanations on the quality of life outcomes for each of the surgical methods to the patients.

This study aims to clarify the relationship between family policy and children's quality of life through an international comparison and to determine which family policy factors contribute to children's quality of life. The research question is "How can family policies be combined to improve children's quality of life in terms of health and economy?" It includes nine categories of family policies related to money, service, and leave. Measures of children's quality of life include low birth weight, infant mortality, and child poverty. Using the OECD Family Database, and the OECD Child Well-being Data, fuzzy-set Qualitative Comparison Analysis (fsQCA) was used among 20 OECD countries. Combinations of family policies significant to the children's quality of life were derived from the results. This study contributes to the literature by revealing the effectiveness of states' investment in family policy. In addition, the study indicates that since family policies interact with each other, those policies combine to improve children's quality of life.
The current study aims to reconstruct the biography of a male elderly for the biographical research, based on the narrativity. The following conclusions are ascertained through the analysis of the narrative-biographical interview: a life as told is constructed in a biographical perspective of life from the only son, who is oppressed by the duties for his role. On the contrary, a life as experienced is constructed with life from a self-determined point of view. Therefore it may be concluded that differences between the life as told and life as experienced stand for discrepancies between the biographical self-evaluation and the biographical reality. Some implications from this reconstructing biography, based on the narrativity, were addressed as regards welfare practice for the elderly and biographical research in the welfare for the elderly.
