  • The information about eBook cannot be added automatically to library catalog because the eBook Service Provider does not provide enough eBook metadata. Therefore, this paper was developed the eBook library's metadata in order to maintain the compatibility and interoperability analyzed the eBook service provider's metadata, KS X 6100 metadata, Dublin Core, MARC, and TEI Header, and extracted common meradata elements from them. We defined these common metadata elements as a core element and added other elements that uniquely describe eBook characteristics as a detailed adn additional elements for eBook metadata.

  • The primary questions addressed by this research are the followings: Have the OPAC interfaces of children's libraries been designed user-friendly; What difficulties have OPAC searchers experienced in using OPACs; How do they perceive the system after searching it; Through the answers of those questions the problems of OPACs for children as searching tools have been grasped and recommendations have been suggested in order to improve the OPAC interfaces. An experiment was conducted and 28 children of grades 4 to 6 performed 5 searching tasks. The searching behavior of OPAC searchers has been analyzed thoroughly. The data of their perceptions about the system was collected through a questionnaire after completing the tasks.

  • This study intends to make a comprehensive inquiry about practices of cataloging outsourcing implemented in Korea libraries. To the end, this study examined (1) how many libraries is carrying out the cataloging outsourcing, (2) why libraries consider cataloging outsourcing, (3) methods and procedures of cataloging outsourcing and (4) advantages and disadvantages of cataloging outsourcing from catalogers' perspectives. The data needed for discussion were collected by two methods : a survey with 138 public libraries and an in-depth interviews with 10 catalogers drawn from the survey participants.

  • This study arranged the function and role of colophon and looked around the history, relevant laws, and description elements of books issued in China. According to the colophon of books issued from China, all colophon have copyrights and description elements in common. Colophon is that we recorded the bibliographic area of the proper book in special place, namely the inside of the cover. Besides, the colophon additionally includes necessary bibliographic areas depending on the development of publishing technology and transition of publishing environment. This colophon is offered as useful sources of information when librarians want to make up the catalog in the library.

  • Bibliographic Network has been a goal about not only to support resource sharing within libraries but also to pursue economic efficiency of cataloging. But nowadays, as resources in diverse media and format have been poured out, printed resources based union catalog should change to new resources finding system which include diverse type of resources. This study analyzes changing factors of bibliographic network and strategies for LC, NII, OCLC, NLA who try to turn over a new service. Finally basis on these findings, suggest task for Korean new generation bibliographic network service which is focused on introducing new collaborating model and developing new resource finding system.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop a framework for predicting searching performance through an understanding of how cognitive ability relates to searching process and outcome. Specifically, this study examined the relationship between spatial visualization, logical reasoning, integrative reasoning, and information searching process and outcome. Information searching process was assessed by seven search process indicators: (1) search command selection: (2) combination of search commands; (3) application of Boolean logic: (4) application of truncation; (5) use of limit search function; (6) number of search statements; and (7) number of search errors made. Searching outcome was assessed by the number of correct answers to search questions. Subjects first took three standardized cognitive tests that measured cognitive abilities, and performed online catalog searching in response to seven information search questions. The searches were logged using Lotus ScreenCam, and reviewed for the analysis. Factor analysis was used to find underlying structures of the seven search process variables. Multiple regression analysis was applied to examine the predictive power of three cognitive variables on three extracted factors, and search outcome. Results of the data analysis showed that individual differences in logical reasoning could predict information searching process and outcome.

  • In this study in order to verify the overall information seeking behavior of the Web-based OPAC users, it was analyzed transaction log file for 7 years. Regarding Web-based OPAC information seeking behavior, it was studied from the perspective of information seeking strategy and information seeking failure. In search strategy, it was analyzed search type, search options, Boolean operator, length of search text, number of uses of word, number of use Web-based OPAC, number of use by time, by week day. Also, in search failure, search failure ratio, search failure ratio by search options, search failure ratio by Boolean operator were analyzed. The result of this study is expected to be utilized for OPAC system and service improvement in the future.

  • The purpose of this study is to propose a W3C standard, DCAT, to manage and service dataset that is becoming increasingly important as new knowledge information resources. To do this, we first analyzed the class and properties of the four core classes of DCAT. In addition, I modeled and presented a system that can manage and service various data sets based on DCAT in digital library. The system is divided into source data, data set management, linked data connection, and user service. Especially, the DCAT mapping function is suggested in dataset management. This feature can ensure interoperability of various datasets.
