  • A number of mimetic peptides of apolipoprotein A-I, a major component for high density lipoproteins (HDL), were screened from the phase-displayed random peptide library by utilizing monoclonal antibodies (A12). A mimetic peptide for A12 epitope against apolipoprotein A-I was selected as FVLVRDTFPSSVCCP(pA2) exhibiting 45% homology with Apo A-I in the BLAST search. Solution structure determination of this mimotope was made by using 2D-NMR data and NMR-based distance geometry (DG)/molecular dynamic calculations. The resulting DG structures had low penalty value of 0.4-0.6 ${\AA}^2$ and the total RMSD of 0.7-1.7 ${\AA}$. The mimotope pA2 exhibited a characteristic ${\beta}$-turn conformation from Val[2] to Phe[8] near Pro[9] residue.

  • Brassicaceae consists of important species that have significant amounts of metabolites, and many studies have been carried out in order to understand the mechanism that improves the content of these metabolites. In Brassicacea, Cardamine manshurica Nakai is one of the important edible plants and is rich in oil, fiber, and various nutrients. In this study, we constructed cDNA library using leaves from 4 week-old plants and analyzed the ESTs of C. manshurica Nakai. One thousand thirty-nine ESTs were discovered which assembled to form 468 unigenes. The latter contained 116 contigs and 352 singletons. Similarity search of these ESTs with BLASTX revealed similarities with Arabidopsis thaliana 285 (31.9%), Arabidopsis lyrata 172 (19.3%), Capsella rubella 162 (18.1%), and Eutrema salsugineum 137 (15.3%). ESTs were functionally categorized into molecular function, biological process, and cellular component, and each category took 10.6%, 58.5%, and 30.9%, respectively. The functional analysis also found that 94.9% of ESTs showed at least one GO ID. Microsatellite analysis of 468 unigene sequences revealed 225 structures of which Di-, Tri-, Tetra-, Penta-repeats were 35.6% (80/225), 63.1% (142/225), 0.9% (2/225), and 0.4% (1/225), respectively. The results from our study can be a valuable resource for Cardamine research.

  • This paper describes an equalizer using the DFE (Decision Feedback Equalizer) structure, CMA (Constant Modulus Algorithm) and LMS (Least Mean Square) algorithms. The DFE structure has better channel adaptive performance and lower BER than the transversal structure. The proposed equalizer can be used for 16/64 QAM modems. We employ high speed multipliers, square logics and many CSAs (Carry Save Adder) for high speed operations. We have developed floating-point models and fixed-point models using the COSSAP$\^$TM/ CAD tool and developed VHDL filter. The proposed equalizer shows low BER in multipath fading channel. We have performed models. From the simulation results, we employ a 12 tap feedback filter and a 8 tap feedforward logic synthesis using the SYNOPSYS$\^$TM/ CAD tool and the SAMSUNG 0.5$\mu\textrm{m}$ standard cell library (STD80) and verified function and timing simulations. The total number of gates is about 130,000.

  • This paper presents the architecture and design of a DSSS MODEM ASIC chip for wireless local area networks (WLAN). The implemented MODEM chip supports the DSSS physical layer specifications of the IEEE 802.11. The chip consits of a transmitter and a receiver which contain a CRC encoder/decoder, a differential encoder/decoder, a frequency offset compensator and a timing recovery circuit. The chip supports various data rates, i.e., 4,2 and 1Mbps and provides both DBPSK and DQPSK for data modulation. We have performed logic synthesis using the $SAMSUNG^{TM}$ $0.6{\mu}m$ gate array library and the implemented chip consists of 53,355 gates. The MODEM chip operates at 44MHz, the package type is 100-pin QFP and the power consumption is 1.2watt at 44MHz. The implemented MODEM architecture shows lower BER compared with the Harris HSP3824.

  • Assessment of information credibility is a ubiquitous human activity given that people constantly make decisions and selections based on the value of information in a variety of information seeking and use contexts. Today, people are increasingly engaging in diverse online activities beyond searching for and reading information, including activities such as creating, tagging and rating content, shopping, and listening to and watching multimedia content. The Web 2.0 environment presents new challenges for people because the burden of information evaluation is shifted from professional gatekeepers to individual information consumers. At the same time, however, it also provides unprecedented opportunities for people to use tools and features that help them to make informed credibility judgments by relying on other people's ratings and recommendations. This paper introduces fundamental notions and dimensions of credibility, and contends that credibility assessment can be best understood with respect to human information behavior because it encompasses both the level of effort people exert as well as the heuristics they employ to evaluate information. The paper reports on a survey study investigating people's credibility judgments with respect to online information, focusing on the constructs, heuristics, and interactions involved in people's credibility assessment processes within the context of their everyday life information activities. Using an online activity diary method, empirical data about people's online activities and their associated credibility assessments were collected at multiple points throughout the day for three days. The results indicate that distinct credibility assessment heuristics are emerging as people engage in diverse online activities involving more user-generated and multimedia content. A heuristic approach suggests that people apply mental shortcuts or rules of thumb in order to minimize the amount of cognitive effort and time required to make credibility judgments. The paper discusses why a heuristic approach is key to reaching a more comprehensive understanding of people's credibility assessments within the information-abundant online environment.

  • The open access repository means the knowledge information repository for the producer and the user to share in order for all users of the world to freely access the information free of charge with no legal, economic and technological barrier. This study analyzes and compares the functions offered by each repository by classifying the repository into the organizational repository (dCollection, DSpace@MIT) and the thematic repository (arXiv, PubMed Central) and evaluates the user-centered usability based on the analyzed data. This study at the current times, so called as the Web 2.0 era in which the free access and sharing of the information is important, can be said to have the meaning that the result from the usability evaluation on the open access repository will be used as the fundamental data for developing the future repository.

  • The task of author name disambiguation involves identifying an author with different names or different authors with the same name. The author name disambiguation is important for correctly assessing authors' research achievements and finding experts in given areas as well as for the effective operation of scholarly information services such as citation indexes. In the study, we performed error correction and normalization of data and applied rules-based author name disambiguation to compare with baseline machine learning disambiguation in order to see if human intervention could improve the machine learning performance. The improvement of over 0.1 in F-measure by the corrected and normalized email-based author name disambiguation over machine learning demonstrates the potential of human pattern identification and inference, which enabled data correction and normalization process as well as the formation of the rule-based diambiguation, to complement the machine learning's weaknesses to improve the author name disambiguation results.

  • An equation of material number density sensitivity coefficient is derived using first-order perturbation theory. The beginning of cycle of Super-Phenix I is taken as the reference system for this study. Effective multiplication factor of the reference system is defined as system response function and fuel enrichment and fuel effective density are chosen for the variation of reference input data since they are described by material number density which is a component of Boltzmann operator. The nuclear computational code system (KAERI-26 group cross section library/1DX/2DB/PERT-V) is employed for this calculation. Sensitivity coefficient of fuel enrichment on effective multiplication factor is 4.576 and sensitivity coefficient of effective fuel density on effective multiplication factor is 0.0756. This work shows that sensitivity methodology is lesser timeconsuming and gives more informations on important design parameters in comparison with the direct iterative calulation through large computer codes.
