  • Automated material handling system is being used as a method to reduce manufacturing cost in the semiconductor and flat panel displays (FPDs) manufacturing process. Those are considering switch-over from the traditional cassette system to single-substrate transfer system to reduce raw materials of stocks in the processing line. In the present study, the wafer transportation speed has been evaluated by numerical and experimental method for three propulsion nozzle array (face, front, rear) in an air levitation system. Test facility for 300 mm wafer was equipped with two control tracks and a transfer track of 1,500mm length. The diameter of propulsion nozzle is 0.8mm and air velocity of wafer propulsion is $50\sim150m/s$. We found that the experimental results of the wafer transportation speed were well agreed with the numerical ones. Namely, the predicted values of the maximum wafer transportation speed are higher than those values of experimental data by 16% and the numerical result of the mean wafer transportation speed is higher than the experimental result within 20%.

  • This study focuses on the performance enhancement of the levitation and guidance control system in urban and medium-to high-speed magnetic levitation trains. A levitation control system, which is currently being tested in Yeongjongdo, is a single controller that is neither designed nor produced on the basis of redundancy. Hence, vehicular stability and reliability should be improved for the situation in which levitation failure occurs because of a breakdown in a controller during vehicle operation. In addition, the control system should be developed to control electromagnetic levitation considering changes in normal force according to changes in the driving force of the propulsion system.

  • In transverse flux linear induction motors(TFLIM), The loops of the working flux lie in planes transverse to the direction of motion. With a poly-phase primary winding, The TFLIMs has both electro-magnetic propulsion and levitation force. Thus, TFLIM a will be useful in high speed ground transportation systems. In this paper, The characteristics of a single aide TFLIM are analysed by using electromagnetic field theory.

  • In this paper, a study on the efficiency improvement of the magnetic levitation train using the LIM (Linear Induction Motor) was presented. The maglev train has the advantage of being environmentally friendly since much less noise and dust is produced. However, due to structural limitation, compared to a rotating induction motor, linear induction motor, the main propulsion engine of the maglev train has a relatively greater air gap and hence has the lower operation efficiency. In this paper, the relationship between the operating condition of the train and the slip frequency has been investigated to find out the optimum slip frequency that might improve the efficiency of the magnetic levitation train with linear induction motor. The slip frequency is variable during the operation by this relationship only within a range that does not affect the levitation system of the train. After that, the comparison of the efficiency between the conventional control method with the slip frequency fixed at 13.5[Hz] and the proposed method with the slip frequency variable from 9.5[Hz] to 6.5[Hz] has been conducted by simulation using Simplorer. Experiments of 19.5[ton] magnetic levitation trains owned by Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials were carried out to verify the simulation results.

  • In this paper, we addressed a modeling for the magnetic levitation stage. This planar magnetic levitator employs four permanent magnet liner motors. Each motor generates vertical force for suspension against gravity, as well as horizontal force for propulsion. Therefore. this stage can generate six degrees of freedom motion by the combination of forces. We derived a mechanical dynamics equation using Lagrangian method and electromechanical dynamics equation by using Co-energy method. Based on the derived dynamics, we can analyze the stage motion that is subject to the input currents and forces.

  • In this paper, a robust levitation controller for an attractive MAGLVE system is designed. The design of an H$\infty$ controller based on LMI method is proposed for the control of a simple magnetic levitation system. Attractive MAGLEV system is highly nonlinear and open-loop unstable, and has a very restricted equilibrium region, Also, this system has to tolerate various disturbances caused by propulsion. Thus a robust feedback controller is needed to control the system efficiently. We first formulate a mathematical model for the single magnet levitation system. Then we set up an H$\infty$ control problem as a mixed sensitivity problem where the augmented plant is constructed with frequency weighting function ...

  • Through Korean Urban Maglev Program started in 2006, an urban maglev train was developed and the demonstration line is under construction as of now in 2011. The target speed of the developed maglev train is 110km/h, and the core technologies for super speed maglev trains over 500km/h are being studied. The propulsion and levitation systems of the super speed maglev train under consideration consist of linear synchronous motors (LSM) and levitation electromagnets which also act as a mover of LSM. In addition, guidance electromagnets are used to ensure stable running on curved tracks during super speed operation. The levitation and guidance control is focused on in this paper. For experimental purpose, a small maglev train is being manufactured, and its levitation and guidance controller is studied. The main task of the controller is to maintain the gap between the corresponding electromagnet and the guideway constantly. In general, measurements of the gap, acceleration and current and so on are utilized, and the gap control is implemented independently for each electromagnet. In this paper, the levitation and guidance system is modelled considering mechanical interactions, and the levitation and guidance controller is proposed based on this model. The developed controller is verified by various simulations using MATLAB/Simulink.
