  • Micromolding methods are most suitable for mass production of plastic microlens and lens array with low cost. Among the procedures related with micromolding of microlens array, fabrication of mold insect which contains micro cavity of lens shape is the most important stage. In this study, nickel mold inserts for 45 $\mu\textrm{m}$ and 95 $\mu\textrm{m}$ diameters lens way were fabricated using electroforming process. The mother for metal mold inset was made using reflow method. A micro compression molding with polymer powders was used to test the qualities of the metal mold insets. Micro lens profile and surface roughness was measured by interferometric technique and AFM, respectively. The final molded lens replicated the mother well, and had good surface quality.

  • This paper describes a fast tool control (FTC)-based diamond turning process for fabricating large-area high-quality micro-lens arrays. The developed FTC unit has a stroke of $48{\mu}m$ and a resonance frequency of 4.9 kHz. Micro-lens arrays were fabricated using a micro-cutting tool with a nose radius of $50{\mu}m$. The FTC unit was integrated with a force sensor so that the initial position of the micro-cutting tool with respect to the workpiece surface could be detected through monitoring the contacting force. The length and depth of the designed parabolic micro-lens profile were $190{\mu}m$ and $20{\mu}m$, respectively. A micro-lens array was fabricated on a cylinder surface over an area of ${\phi}55 mm{\times}40 mm$.

  • The exit surface of a lens is designed using a three-dimensional free-form expression in order to easily modify a curved surface. This enables the design of numerical values and mathematical things using three-dimensional free-form expression, and enhances precision because it can be fine-tuned via numerical control. The standard of "Classification of Luminaire Light Distribution" for outdoor lighting fixtures by IESNA is adopted in order to examine the correlation between three-dimensional free-form surface expression and lighting performance. The variation of light distribution type and range is analyzed using the values of maximum light intensity and 50% light intensity. The actual tolerance occurs owing to parameters such as the thickness of the lens, the distance between LEDs, and the movement of the center of the incident surface; the effects of changes in these parameters on the performance are compared and analyzed.

  • As the various manufacturing technology of optical glass is developed, the aspherical lenses are applied to many fields. However, It is still very difficult to manufacture glass lens because of the high cost and the short life of core. In recent years, the demands of the aspherical glass lenses increase since it is difficult to obtain the desirable performance in the plastic lens. In the glass mold lens, it has merits of high productivity and reproductivity since lens is manufactured by the only forming with high precision mold. The fabricating conditions for glass mold lens are glass surface that does not cause fusion, viscosity of 108-1013 poise for the $0.2{\mu}m$ accuracy, and viscoelasticity for the roughness less than 100 angstrom. In this paper, ultra-precision grinding characteristics of tungsten carbide for forming the aspherical glass lens core were studied and the result of it is applied to manufacture the tungsten carbide-base cores of the glass lens used to the laser scanning unit and the camera phone.

  • This paper deals with mirror grinding of a small-sized aspherical lens by a resin bonded diamond spherical wheel. Up to now, a spherical lens has been used for the lens of the optical communication optical part. However, recently, aspherical optical parts are mainly used in order to attempt the improvement in image quality and miniaturization of the optical device. It is possible to manufacture the aspherical lens which is presently being used in optical instrument through ultra-precision machining technology. Also, to realize compactness, efforts are being made to produce a micro aspherical lens, fur which the development of a high-precision, micro molding die is inevitable. Therefore, extensive research is being done on methods of producing a micro aspherical surface by high-precision grinding. In this paper, the spherical wheel was trued by cup-shaped truer and tool path was calculated by the radius of curvature of the wheel after truing and dressing. Then in the aspherical grinding experiment, WC material which is used as a melding die for the small-sized aspherical lens was ground. The results showed that a form accuracy of 0.1918 $\mu\textrm{m}$ P-V and a surface roughness of 0.064 $\mu\textrm{m}$ Rmax could be achieved.
