In this paper, the iterative least-squares inversion method is used to determine shapes and density contrasts of 2-D structures from the gravity data. The 2-D structures are represented by their cross-sections of N-sided polygons with density contrasts which are constant or varying with depth. Gravity data are calculated by theoretical formulas for the above structure models. The data are considered as observed ones and used for inversions. The inversions are performed by the following processes: I) polygon's vertices and density contrast are initially assumed, 2) gravity are calculated for the assumed model and error between the true (observed) and calculated gravity are determined, 3) new vertices and density contrast are determined from the error by using the damped least-squares inversion method, and 4) final model is determined when the error is very small. Results of this study show that the shape and density contrast of each model are accurately determined when the density contrast is constant or vertical density gradient is known. In case where the density gradient is unknown, the inversion gives incorrect results. But the shape and density gradient of the model are determined when the surface density contrast is known.
This study aims to clarify the asset evaluation attributes of imported brands exclusively by department stores based on qualitative study. For the qualitative research, hands-on staff of the branch office who had at least 5 years experience in PB-related positions at one of the four domestic department stores(Lotte, Shinsegae, Hyundai, Galleria), and at least 20 years old adults who had purchased imported brand items exclusively by a certain department store(Shinsegae, Lotte) were included. The asset evaluation attributes of department store-exclusively imported brands were drawn up through the one-to-one in-depth interview method. As a result of qualitative study on the asset evaluation attributes of department store-exclusive importation brands, it turned out that there were 4 factors in view of business entity - stability, profitability, growth potential, and relationship, and that there were 6 factors in view of consumers - product quality, recognition, country of origin, image, preference, and reliability. In comparison with the existing preliminary study, it was notable that relationship in view of business entity, and country of origin in view of consumers were added to the asset elements.
The frost penetration depth of pavement is usually estimated from the freezing index that made temperature data analysis of 30 years and decided the thickness of anti-frost layer. The field monitoring region in study was divided into five regions by freezing index 550~650$^{\circ}C{\cdot}$day, 450~550$^{\circ}C{\cdot}$day and 350~450$^{\circ}C{\cdot}$day. Each region has three-section of road pavement such as cutting area, boundary area of cutting and banking, and lower area of banking. The field monitoring system was established both in the section of anti-frost layer and in the section without anti-frost layer. The data analysis was conducted for determination of frost penetration depth within the paved road by the field monitoring system. The result showed that The temperature of subgrade without anti-frost layer shows below zero in centigrade for the region of freezing index 550~650$^{\circ}C{\cdot}$day, up and down around zero degree in subgrade for the region of freezing index 450~550$^{\circ}C{\cdot}$day, and there is no place existed below zero degree in subgrade for the region of freezing index below 450$^{\circ}C{\cdot}$day. With comparison of field frost penetration depth for the cross-sections of pavement, the cutting area shows the greatest frost penetration depth, and less influence of frost penetration depth for the boundary area of cutting and banking, and the least influenced for the lower area of banking.
Tooth mobility may be the decisive factor that determines whether dental treatment of any kind is undertaken. Although tooth mobility in isolation says little in itself, the finding of increased tooth mobility is of both diagnostic and prognostic importance. Only the detection of an increase or decrease in mobility makes an evaluation possible. Thus prior to treatment, we must understand the pathologic process causing the observed the tooth mobility and decide whether the pattern and degree of observed tooth mobility is reversible or irreversible. And then it must be decided whether retention and treatment or extraction and replacement. The purpose of this study was to compare tooth mobility at different time period during root planing and flap operation and to relate changes in mobility to each treatment method. Twenty-one patients (287 teeth) with chronic adult periodontitis were treated with root planing(control group) and flap operation(experimental group), and each group was divided 3 subgroups based upon initial probing pocket depth (1-3mm, 4-6mm, 7mm and more). Tooth mobility was measured with $Periotest^{(R)}$ at the day of operation, 4 days, 1 week, 2 weeks, 3 weeks, 4 weeks, 8 weeks, 12 weeks after each treatment. Tooth mobility, attachment loss, radiographic bone loss, and bleeding on probing were measured at the day of operation, 4 weeks, 8 weeks and 12 weeks after treatment. 1. In group initial probing depth was 1-3mm, tooth mobility had no significant difference after root planing and flap operation. 2 . In group initial probing depth was 4-6mm, 7mm and more, tooth mobility had decreased in 12 weeks after root planing(p<0.01). And the mobility had increased after flap operation(p<0.01) and was at peak in 1 week, and decreased at initial level in 4 weeks, below the initial level in 12 weeks(p<0.01). 3. In 1 week, significant difference in tooth mobility between control and experimental group was found(p<0.01) but, in 12 weeks no difference between two groups was found. 4. Change of immediate tooth mobility after treatment was more larger in deep pocket than in shallow one. In group with the same probing pocket depth, the change of tooth mobility in molar group was greater than that of premolar group. 5. Tooth mobility before treatment was more strongly correlated with radiographic bone loss (r=0.5325) than probing depth, attachment loss and bleeding on probing, in 12 weeks after treatment, was more strongly correlated with attachment loss($r^2$=0.4761) than probing depth and bleeding on probing. Evaluation of the treatment effect and the prognosis after root planing and flap operation were meaningful on tooth initial probing depth 4mm and more. After flap operation, evaluation of the prognosis should be performed at least in 4 weeks and in 12 weeks after treatment, no difference in tooth mobility between two groups was observed. Radiographic bone loss and attachment loss were good clinical indicators to evaluate tooth mobility.
Purpose: The standard surgical procedure recommended to treat gastric cancer in advanced cases is dissection of D2 lymph nodes (LNs). However, the optimum number of LNs that should be retrieved in advanced gastric cancer (AGC) remains debatable. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the optimum number of retrieved LNs and determine the clinical implications of retrieved LN numbers on the treatment of AGC. Materials and Methods: Of 575 AGC patients reviewed, 369 who underwent open curative gastrectomy with D2 or more extensive LN dissection at our institution were analyzed according to their clinicopathologic characteristics and number of LNs retrieved. Results: Multivariate regression analysis revealed that tumor size (P=0.006), depth of invasion (P=0.000), LN metastasis (P=0.000), and stage (P=0.000) were independent variables with predictive value. The 5-year survival rates were differed significantly according to the numbers of LNs retrieved ([1] 15~25 vs. >25 and [2] 15~39 vs. ${\geq}40$) in patients with differentiated carcinoma. Conclusions: Tumor size, depth of invasion, LN metastasis, and stage were independent predictive factors for survival. The number of retrieved LNs was significantly associated with a long-term survival benefit in patients with differentiated carcinoma. Therefore, our data suggest that the retrieval of a minimum of 15 LNs may not be sufficient to warrant a recommendation for further curative surgery and that extensive LN dissection should be considered in advanced carcinoma of the differentiated type.
In this study, hypocentor parameters of some local and regional earthquakes and explosions, including focal depth and origin time, were redetermined by using a single station of three-component. We attempt to do the job by the combination of polarization analyses, by which azimuths and trial epicenters of earthquakes can be figured out, and a layered constant velocity model, on the basis of which theoretical travel times can be computed to match a series of input seismic phases of the event. Magnitudes were determined by using coda duration. Results, which correspond to the least misfit, showed that the average focal depth of all earthquakes in this study is around 15km, which fits well to that by investigation (Kang and Choi, 1993).

In this paper, the natural frequency and damping ratio are analyzed with the acceleration signal of an Euler-Bernoulli beam using the impact hammer test. The results are presented according to crack depth and position using the recursive least squares method. The results are compared and investigated with FEM analysis of CATIA. Both methods agree well with each other regarding the natural mode characteristics. The captured acceleration can be used for the calculation of the natural frequency and damping ratio using time series methods that are based on the measured acceleration. Using these data, a recursive time series model with the acceleration signal was configured and the behaviors of the natural frequency and damping ratio were investigated and analyzed. Finally, the results can be used for the prediction of crack position and depth under different crack conditions for an Euler-Bernoulli beam.
This paper deals with the makespan minimization problem of job shops. The problem is known as one of hard problems to optimize, and therefore, many heuristic methods have been proposed by many researchers. The aim of this study is also to propose a heuristic scheduling method for the problem. However, the difference between the proposed method and many other heuristics is that the proposed method is based on depth-first branch and bound, and thus it is possible to find an optimal solution at least in principle. To accelerate the search, when a node is judged hopeless in the search tree, the proposed flexible branch and bound method can indicate a higher backtracking node. The unexplored nodes are stored and may be explored later to realize the strict optimization. Two methods are proposed to generate the backtracking point based on the critical path of the current best feasible schedule, and the minimum lower bound for the makespan in the unexplored sub-problems. Schedules are generated based on Giffler and Thompson's active schedule generation algorithm. Acceleration of the search by the flexible branch and bound is confirmed by numerical experiment.
In this paper, the behavior of underground strutted retaining structure under seismic condition in non-liquefiable dry cohesionless soil is analyzed numerically. The numerical model is validated against the published results obtained from a study on embedded cantilever retaining wall under seismic condition. The validated model is used to investigate the difference between the static and seismic response of the structure in terms of four design parameters, e.g., support member or strut force, wall moment, lateral wall deflection and ground surface displacement. It is found that among the different design parameters, the one which is mostly affected by the earthquake force is wall deflection and the least affected is the strut force. To get the best possible results under seismic condition, the embedment depth of the wall and thickness of the wall can be chosen as around 100% and 6% of the depth of final excavation level, respectively. The stiffness of the strut may also be chosen as $5{\times}105kN/m/m$ to achieve best possible performance under seismic condition.
The control of diamond turning is usually achieved through a laser-interferometer feedback of slide position. If the tool post is rigid and the material removal process is relatively static, then such a non-collocated position feedback control scheme may surface. However, as the accuracy requirement gets tighter and desired surface contours become more complex, the need for a direct tool-tip sensing becomes inevitable. The physical constraints of the machining process prohibit any reasonable implementation of a tool-tip motion measurement. It is proposed that the measured force normal to the face of the workpiece can be filtered through an appropriate admittance transfer function to result in the estimated depth of cut. This can be compared to the desired depth of cut to generate the adjustment control action in addition to position feedback control. In this work, the design methodology on the admittance model-based control with a conventional controller is presented. The recursive least-squares algorithm with forgetting factor is proposed to identify the parameters and update the cutting process in real time. The normal cutting forces are measured to identify the cutting dynamics in the real diamond turning process using the precision dynamometer. Based on the parameter estimation of cutting dynamics and the admittance model-based nanodynamic control scheme, simulation results are shown.
