Analysis of the moderating effects of programming languages and the relationship between learners' learning characteristics and achievements (프로그래밍 언어의 조절효과 및 학습자의 학습특성과 성취도와의 관계 분석)

  • This study analyzed the relationship between the characteristics of learners and the achievement level according to the language they learn in programming education for non-major students. The learner's characteristics were set as mastery goal, situaltional interest, cognitive engagement, and self-efficacy for performance, and path analysis was conducted to understand the relationship between the language used and the learning achievement. Situaltional interest and cognitive engagement were found to have an effect on self-efficacy for performace, and self-efficacy for performance had an effect on academic achievement. At this time, the type of programming language to be studied showed a moderating effect on learning achievement. Based on the results of this study, it is suggested that appropriate instruction is needed for each language used in programming lessons for software non-majors.

The Scratch Programming Learning Attitude Effects of Scaffolding based Learning Strategy (스캐폴딩 기반 학습 전략이 스크래치 프로그래밍 학습태도에 미치는 영향)

  • Necessity of programming education is demanded according to more interested in importance of computer science. However, the existing programming education only focused on function for utilization of the commercial programs. The existing programming education doesn't meet the students' level and doesn't cause that they were interested in programming. Therefore, we applied the learning strategy based the scaffolding when we taught the scratch programming language in the elementary school and we studied the students' attitude towards programming learning. As a result, we found the good results about the general learning patterns, the performance satisfaction through learning and the interaction areas.

  • In this paper, we developed an e-loaming contents for C programming language using Linux and open source software, not using commercial integrated development tool like Microsoft's Visual Studio. In most programming language courses, students study or practice the programming language by editing source code compiling and running the executable code by commercial software like Visual Studio which installed on each PC. This way of learning has some difficulties in total cost of purchasing software and using other PCs which donot have proper software installed. To overcome this situation and enable loaming anywhere, with any device, at anytime, we propose a way of utilizing Linux and open source software in Web-based learning environment. In this environment students can input their source code on the form of broweser and get the result instantly from the server.

  • This study shows how to impact on programming learning using Scratch by the learning style. Firstly, students were classified by learning styles test using the VARK questionnaire. After one semester of programming education, correlation with learning styles and various instructional factors was analyzed. Scratch-based programming education improves the cognitive effectiveness and learning satisfaction for elementary school students. Especially students with visual preference performed better on programming education based on Scratch statistically. As a result, the process of programming must be mainly considered in programming education.

Verification of the Difference in Project Completing Abilities Depending on a Learning Style using an Educational Programming Language (교육용 프로그래밍 언어를 활용한 학습에서 학습양식에 따른 프로젝트 완성 능력의 차이 검증)

  • Educational Programming Language has been reported to expand thinking ability and to give help in creative problem solving ability by numerous researches. Researchers are verifying the educational effects of EPL by applying it to various area, but researches in effective application of EPL is yet incomplete. Thus, for effective application of EPL, this research has verified the project completing ability depending on studying style targeted to college senior students. As results of verification, first, the results showed significant differences in project completing abilities depending on information processing methods, and learners who preferred self-reflecting introspection showed high scores. Second, in learning style the divergers showed the highest scores. This research suggested the necessity of guidance and detailed planning of self-reflecting introspective activity in ideas that would be realized by learners through searching for factors that could enhance the degree of project completion in programming learning using EPL.

Effects of Scratch Programming Learning based on CPS on Verbal Creativity (CPS 모형 기반 스크래치 프로그래밍 학습이 언어 창의성에 미치는 영향)

  • Recently, the discussion of domain-generality vs. domain-specificity of creativity has been continued. At this point in time, we need to research computer programming activities related to creativity again. While most of existing relative researches have performed TTCT figural tests for evaluating learners' creativity of learning education programming language, our perspective is that verbal creativity is needed on learning education programming language more. In this research, we have developed scratch programming learning based on CPS with the contents using fundamental concepts of computer science from the viewpoint of that programming is a kind of learning required verbal thinking style. This learning program was applied to 17 students of 4th and 5th grade for each 4 classes in 5 days, total 20 classes, this group passed normality test has the result of t-test has found that three subscales (fluency, flexibility and originality) and creativity index (mean of three standard scores) of verbal creativity were improved significantly using the mean of standard scores (100) of TTCT verbal tests as the test value.

A Task Centered Scratch Programming Learning Program for Enhancing Learners' Problem Solving Abilities (문제해결력 향상을 위한 과제 중심 스크래치 프로그래밍 학습 프로그램)

  • Programming learning may help to enhance learners' complex problem solving abilities. However, it may cause excessive cognitive loads for learners. Therefore, selection of programming tools and design of teaching and learning strategies to minimize the learners' cognitive loads and to maximize the learning effects. A task centered Scratch programming learning program was developed to enhance problem solving abilities of middle school students. And then, we implemented the developed program in middle school programming classes and analysed the educational effects of the developed program. We found that the developed program was helpful in enhancing learners' problem solving abilities, especially in the element of 'troubleshooting', which explains ability of error detecting and correcting.

  • In programming language learning system of flip learning methods, the evaluation of cyber lectures generally proceeds from online to multiple choice questions. In this case, the questions are randomly extracted from the question bank and given to individual learners. In order for these evaluation results to be reflected in the grades, the equity of the examination question is more important than anything else. Especially in the programming language subject, the degree of difficulty that learners think can be different depending on the type of problem. In this paper, we classify the types of multiple-choice problems into two categories, and manage the difficulty level by each type. And we propose a question selection algorithm that considers both difficulty level and type of question. Considering the characteristics of the programming language, experimental results show that the proposed algorithm is more efficient and fair than the conventional method.

  • 본 논문에서는 블록 프로그래밍 언어를 선행조직자로 하여 텍스트 프로그래밍 언어를 학습하는 도구 활용 전략을 연구하였다. 텍스트 프로그래밍 언어는 파이썬이며, 블록 프로그래밍 언어는 엔트리, 활용하는 도구는 주피터 노트북으로 선정하였다. 주피터 노트북을 활용한 블록 프로그래밍 언어 선행조직자 학습 전략은 code cell에 IPython.display.IFrame 클래스를 활용하여 결과 창에 엔트리 작업환경을 불러와 선행조직자로 제시하여 엔트리를 학습 후 code cell에서 파이썬으로 학습한다. 주피터 노트북을 통해 블록 프로그래밍 언어를 선행조직자로 제시 후 텍스트 프로그래밍 언어를 제시함으로써 텍스트 프로그래밍 언어를 학습할 때 인지적 부담을 줄어들고 긍정적 전이가 일어나 효과적인 학습이 될 것으로 기대된다.

  • It is possible to solve many structural problems such as the occurrence of a lot of errors involving misspelling which may occur during the learning of existing programming language, difficulty in grammatical expression and understanding, and difficulty in the expression of algorithm if the program learning tool of the department of computer education in a college of education is utilized as an educational robot. This study developed a learning model (curriculum and a textbook) so that students who major in computer education may easily learn programming by using the NXT software of a Mindstorms robot.
