  • A recent survey of Australian directors conducted by the Financial Reporting Council found that directors require a detailed understanding of technical accounting issues. With the aim of understanding learner difficulties in learning and applying higher learning material relevant to directors, this study explores the transfer pricing topic taught as a case presentation in an undergraduate accounting program at an Australian university. Before intervention with improvements, this study invited 25 students to take part in the study after they had learned the topic and been given one week to understand it. By adopting a transfer pricing problem presented in their essential reading and interviewing those students to gain further insights, the study found that learners experienced conceptual difficulties at various stages in attempting to learn. Intervention to ease learning difficulties was addressed through instructor training. The intervention improvements included using guided workbooks to develop a better understanding of concepts among learners, and representing the problem at hand with diagrams. After intervention with improvements, this study repeated the same procedures with 25 students who had not taken part in the previous study and found that interventions increased the learning. Results have implications for most directors, who are novices to the detailed technical accounting issues of transfer pricing.

  • Nowadays, learning management systems (LMS) are an effective and efficient tool for providing students with a high-quality education. The current study examines the effect of different factors on the use of the blackboard application on mobile phones. The study selects four important factors after factor analysis, such as facilitating factor, performance factor, satisfaction factor, and difficulties factor. The data was collected through a structured questionnaire from 45 students as a sample in the college of business administration at Prince Sattam Bin Abdulaziz University. The study uses a logistic regression model to examine the empirical relationship between LMS adoption and different factors associated with blackboard adoption. The results show that 71 percent of the respondents are between the age of 18-20 years, and 100 percent of students have experience in using blackboard. The empirical results show that the satisfaction factor is positive and significant at the 10 percent level of significance and the difficulties factor is also positive and significant at the 1 percent level of significance. The results conclude that the students are satisfied with using the blackboard on mobile, nevertheless, the difficulties factor which is positive and significant shows that students are facing some difficulties in using the blackboard on their mobile.

  • Many researches have reported that it is difficult to solve students' difficulties in learning science with teaching models focused on certain aspects because of various reasons. Recently, in science education research, the integrated perceptive has been to put emphasis on understanding complex situations of real teaching and learning. In this research context, the integrated mental model theory that were considered as a whole factor related to learning has been studied by integrating previous studies that related to students' conceptions and learning in various fields. Thus, it is needed that the teaching model be based on the integrated mental model theory to help students to solve their difficulties. The purpose of this research was to develop a new teaching model based on the integrated mental model theory to address this issue. We reviewed current studies on student difficulties and teaching models. After this, we developed 4M learning cycle teaching model. In this paper, we described the process of developing a new teaching model and discussed how to apply this teaching model to the practices. We also discussed the effects of 4M learning cycle teaching model based on the integrated mental model theory in learning science with its implications.

  • This study analyzed the difficulties elementary school students have in role-playing analogy activities for concept learning of heat transfer. Eleven fifth graders were given an orientation class on role-playing analogy activity, a class for concept learning of heat transfer as presented in a textbook, and then they performed the role-playing analogy activity with concepts of heat transfer. After the classes, researchers investigated the difficulties students encountered through questionnaires and interviews. The following are results of the research: Difficulties that students faced in role-playing analogy activity can be classified into five types. First, students encountered difficulties in expressing the analogy. The students who had difficulties in expressing the analogy focused on expressions outside the science concepts or lacked understanding of the science concepts. They also had difficulties in expressing the analogy because they lacked the expressiveness of analogy or abilities in mapping errors. They had difficulties in expressing the planned role-playing analogy in a narrow space. Second, students also experienced difficulties in performing activities due to lack of understanding on activities or lack of experience. Third, students experienced difficulties in selecting roles because they preferred the specific role or unwanted the specific roles. Fourth, the members of group experienced difficulties in group activities because they did not concentrate on activities, failed to perform roles, or showed attitudes of an onlooker. Fifth, they experienced difficulties in communications due to unilateral communication, conflicts of opinions, and lack of opinions.
