  • This paper presents face features detection and a new physiological neuro-fuzzy learning method by using two-dimensional variances based on variation of gray level and by learning for a statistical distribution of the detected face features. This paper reports a method to learn by not using partial face image but using global face image. Face detection process of this method is performed by describing differences of variance change between edge region and stationary region by gray-scale variation of global face having featured regions including nose, mouse, and couple of eyes. To process the learning stage, we use the input layer obtained by statistical distribution of the featured regions for performing the new physiological neuro-fuzzy algorithm.

  • The smart product market is growing year by year and is being used in many areas. There are various ways of interacting with smart products and users by inputting voice recognition, touch and finger movements. It is most important to detect an accurate hand region as a whole step to recognize hand movement. In this paper, we propose a method to detect accurate hand region in real time in various environments. A conventional method of detecting a hand region includes a method using depth information of a multi-sensor camera, a method of detecting a hand through machine learning, and a method of detecting a hand region using a color model. Among these methods, a method using a multi-sensor camera or a method using a machine learning requires a large amount of calculation and a high-performance PC is essential. Many computations are not suitable for embedded systems, and high-end PCs increase or decrease the price of smart products. The algorithm proposed in this paper detects the hand region using the color model, corrects the problems of the existing hand detection algorithm, and detects the accurate hand region based on various experimental environments.

  • It is desirable for autonomous robot systems to possess the ability to behave in a smooth and continuous fashion when interacting with an unknown environment. Although Q-learning requires a lot of memory and time to optimize a series of actions in a continuous state space, it may not be easy to apply the method to such a real environment. In this paper, for continuous state space applications, to solve problem and a triangular type Q-value model\ulcorner This sounds very ackward. What is it you want to solve about the Q-value model. Our learning method can estimate a current Q-value by its relationship with the neighboring states and has the ability to learn its actions similar to that of Q-learning. Thus, our method can enable robots to move smoothly in a real environment. To show the validity of our method, navigation comparison with Q-learning are given and visual tracking simulation results involving an 2-DOF SCARA robot are also presented.

  • Recently bank card number recognition plays an important role in improving payment efficiency. In this paper we propose a new bank-card number identification algorithm. The proposed algorithm consists of three modules which include edge detection, candidate region generation, and recognition. The module of 'edge detection' is used to obtain the possible digital region. The module of 'candidate region generation' has the role to expand the length of the digital region to obtain the candidate card number regions, i.e. to obtain the final bank card number location. And the module of 'recognition' has Convolutional deep learning Neural Network (CNN) to identify the final bank card numbers. Experimental results show that the identification rate of the proposed algorithm is 95% for the card numbers, which shows 20% better than that of conventional algorithm or method.

  • We present a new ensemble learning method that employs the set of region experts, each of which learns to handle a subset of the training data. We split the training data and generate experts for different regions in the feature space. When classifying a data, we apply a weighted voting among the experts that include the data in their region. We used ten datasets to compare the performance of our new ensemble method with that of single classifiers as well as other ensemble methods such as Bagging and Adaboost. We used SMO, Naive Bayes and C4.5 as base learning algorithms. As a result, we found that the performance of our method is comparable to that of Adaboost and Bagging when the base learner is C4.5. In the remaining cases, our method outperformed the benchmark methods.

  • A probabilistic seismic damage analysis is an essential procedure to identify seismically vulnerable structures, prioritize the seismic retrofit, and ultimately minimize the overall seismic risk. To assess the seismic risk of multiple structures within a region, a large number of nonlinear time-history structural analyses must be conducted and studied. As a result, each assessment requires high computing resources. To overcome this limitation, we explore a deep learning-based metamodel to enable the prediction of the mean and the standard deviation of the seismic damage distribution of track-on steel-plate girder railway bridges in Korea considering the geometric variation. For machine learning training, nonlinear dynamic time-history analyses are performed to generate 800 high-fidelity datasets on the seismic response. Through intensive trial and error, the study is concentrated on developing an optimal machine learning architecture with the pre-identified variables of the physical configuration of the bridge. Additionally, the prediction performance of the proposed method is compared with a previous, well-defined, response surface model. Finally, the statistical testing results indicate that the overall performance of the deep-learning model is improved compared to the response surface model, as its errors are reduced by as much as 61%. In conclusion, the model proposed in this study can be effectively deployed for the seismic fragility and risk assessment of a region with a large number of structures.

  • The purpose of the study was to examine the case of Regional Learning Network and present the implications for Consortium training Programs for small and middle-sized corporations in Korea. I found a following findings in Alesund regional learning network. First, companies participated regional learning network on their own initiative. Second, companies developed their innovation competency and had a chance to implement change management programs in order to cope with dynamic environment. Third, regional learning network was designed based on organization learning theory which make it possible to create, experiment and share the common knowledge for paticipating companies. Based on the these findings, implications for Consortium training Programs for small and middle-sized corporations in Korea was presented.

  • For all the region is the basic unit of geographical learning and the grounds of human activities, regional learning can't possible be carried out at the class. Because there are very few regional learning materials that are applicable to class and can be expanded to geographical basic concept. This paper aims to regulate the construction principles of regional learning and select the contents of regional learning. Firstly, the six basic concepts of geographical education be made a selection of the construction principles of regional learning: human-environment, location, region, interaction, change, scale. And then, I suggest the upper five subject that be based on the results of systematical geography. Those are the necessity and method of regional apprehension, the physical environment and the regional human-life, the resource and industrial activities. the regional life-space's formation and change, and the changing world and region. And I propose the subdivided the mid and the lower subject that be reflected the learner's need and the social demand, and could be experienced the results of geography and the everyday life. For the best regional learning, these subjects can be combined one or more in various scale.

  • For constructing three-dimensional (3D) spatial information occlusion region problem arises in the process of taking the texture of the building. In order to solve this problem, it is necessary to investigate the automation method to automatically recognize the occlusion region, issue it, and automatically complement the texture. In fact there are occasions when it is possible to generate a very large number of structures and occlusion, so alternatives to overcome are being considered. In this study, we attempt to apply an approach to automatically create an occlusion region based on learning by patterning the blocked region using the recently emerging deep learning algorithm. Experiment to see the performance automatic detection of people, banners, vehicles, and traffic lights that cause occlusion in building walls using two advanced algorithms of Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) technique, Faster Region-based Convolutional Neural Network (R-CNN) and Mask R-CNN. And the results of the automatic detection by learning the banners in the pre-learned model of the Mask R-CNN method were found to be excellent.

  • In machine learning, the ensemble classifier that is a set of classifiers have been introduced for higher accuracy than individual classifiers. We propose a new ensemble learning method that employs a set of region based classifiers. To show the performance of the proposed method. we compared its performance with that of bagging and boosting, which ard existing ensemble methods. Since the distribution of data can be different in different regions in the feature space, we split the data and generate classifiers based on each region and apply a weighted voting among the classifiers. We used 11 data sets from the UCI Machine Learning Repository to compare the performance of our new ensemble method with that of individual classifiers as well as existing ensemble methods such as bagging and boosting. As a result, we found that our method produced improved performance, particularly when the base learner is Naive Bayes or SVM.
