  • Many 6-sigma innovation companies are obtaining ISO9000 series or ISO/TS16949 certifications. However, not many of them have considered the integrated management of ISO/TS16949 at the time of 6-sigma introduction. ISO/TS16949 focuses on the process of an overall company. In particular, APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning) requires that from the beginning all the planning should have a clear quality planning business process. Each company can decide the best course of action to suit its individual needs. Lean DFSS in 6-sigma offers the concrete development steps of the product development process. And if analyses of Input, Output, Target, Process, KSF, KPI, and FMEA is done in each process and clearly defined in APQP, mutual organic and effective systems can be initially achieved.

  • The number of studies investigating the response of concrete-filled tubes (CFTs) under shear has been very limited in the literature. This lack of research has been traditionally reflected in international design standards as rather conservative shear strength predictions for CFTs. The dearth of research on the shear response is even more pronounced for the case of concrete-filled stainless steel tubes (CFSSTs). In line with this, the present study investigates the shear response of circular and square CFSSTs using advanced finite element (FE) analysis. A thorough review of the previous studies on the shear response of carbon steel CFTs is provided along with a summary of past experimental programmes as well as the developed and codified design methods. A comprehensive numerical study is then conducted considering a wide range of circular and square, austenitic and lean duplex CFSSTs with different concrete infills and shear span-to-depth ratios. The effect of the tail length on the shear response is investigated and the minimum required tail length for achieving full shear capacity is established. The simulations are also used to highlight the importance of the dilation of the concrete core in the shear response of concrete-filled tubes and its relationship with the utilised boundary conditions. Furthermore, the numerical results are compared in detail with the predictions of design approaches developed previously for carbon steel CFTs and their accuracy and applicability to the stainless steel counterpart are demonstrated and recommendations are made accordingly.

  • The objective of this paper is the establishment of finite element analysis frame work for pavement research. Finite element analysis results simulating various loading experiments are verified with sensor measurements obtained from the KHC Test Road. The accuracy of the finite element analysis can be supported by these efforts so that it helps spread out the finite element analysis to pavement research and design processes. The finite element model used in this research is the full 3D nonlinear model including concrete slab, lean concrete base, subbase, shoulder, dowel, and tie-bar. In order to accomplish the accurate verification, the loading condition and the pavement temperature distribution are exactly simulated with field measured data. The curling behavior and the strain distribution are compared with measured responses from the loading tests with a truck and the FWD. Strain and curling predictions from the concrete slab are matched well with measured responses but the strain prediction from the lean concrete base is not matched with measured response. In addition, the magnitude of permanent curling is evaluated with the finite element analysis.

  • It is investigated character of the dynamic behavior at over excavation zone of roadbed using crushed stone instead of lean concrete. It is considered that behavior of roadbed using PENTAGON-3D and Baber's equation. Typical load of sine wave type using impact factor is compared to moving load system to examine relationship in using PENTAGON-3D case. Variations of this paper are material properties of roadbed, train velocity, subgrade bearing capacity. Using variations, safety of roadbed is estimated by dynamic behavior character.

  • The rubblization technique is breaking the aged concrete pavement slab into rubblized concrete aggregate, and use it as an base material at its original position, then builds overlay above the rubblized base. This method has been successively used in USA due to the advantage of good contructibility, cost-effectiveness as well as the capability of preventing of reflection cracks. However, constructibility and economic performance of rubblization on typical Korean concrete pavements needed to be investigate since to typical Korean concrete pavements have thick slab, as well include lean concrete subbase course. This stud explored optimum breaking depth and suggested minimum 10cm based on reflection crack simulation test. Also proper head shape and impact energy were investigated based on small breaking field tests. It was found that $127kg/cm^2$ of stress with 52.3% of head contact area are breaking requirement. Also, Multi-head type breaker suitable for Korean condition was designed and developed. This multi-head type breaker was designed to rubblize old concrete to the suggested optimum rubblized-depth and rubblized-concrete-aggregate size to prevent reflection crack and maintain high bearing capacity. This machine was used for the test of rubblization of old concrete pavement on a non-use old concrete and a in-serviced road. In these two tests, engineering properties of rubblized base and constructability and cost were investigated. In both tests, the old concrete rubblized to targeted size and depth, and high-level bearing capacity was achieved. Also, superior constructability and lower cost compared with traditional reconstruction was examined.

  • To investigate the usefulness of AASHTO joint opening equation, joint movement of Korea Highway Test Road was monitored and analyzed. The monitored section included Lean, Rubble, BB3 subbase. Demac gauges were installed at each joint in the monitored section, and joint movements with temperature changes were monitored. The measured joint movements with temperature change were then analyzed based on ER (Effective Ratio). The effect of subbase, which was considered as 'C' value in AASHTO equation, was not shown in the observed joint movement. To study the effcet of sealing on joint opening two unsealed sections were included in the monitored section, and no effects of sealing on joint movement were observed.

  • To reinforce bearing capacity-changed section or different foundation in the same building, empirical or simple tools have been used. To solve this problem, we suggest the analytical solution that can evaluate and reinforce the stability of foundation. To estimate the effect of reinforcement by replacement in different foundation, soil stiffness evaluation method taking into account the influence factor with respect to depth beneath the foundation need to be applied. In this paper, graphs and relevant formulae are suggested to calculate equivalent soil reaction coefficient showing the effect of reinforcement by crushed stone and lean concrete replacement.

  • Recently in Korea, some studies on concrete that mass quantity of additives are substituted in order to respond to the government's Low Carbon Green Growth Policy are being conducted. As on of additives, FA as an industrial by-product is used in a large quantity. However, In some of the domestic FA refineries, since some quantity of concrete without passing through the refining process is released for sales for the reasons of the shortening of production time and the cost reduction, etc., it exerts a bad influence on the quality of concrete. Therefore, in this study, there was implemented an experiment on the effects of using an extreme quality of FA which is available for distributing domestically on the engineering characteristics of lean mortar. As a result, it was found that the quality of FA exerts its effect on the compression strength bigger than the flow property or the air volume.

  • This research describes how to predict a model of the tensile strain related to the fatigue cracking performance of several asphalt concrete structures through design of experiments(e.g., Response Surface Methodology) and harmony search(HS) algorithm. The axisymmetric analysis program of finite element method, which is the KICTPAVE, was used to determine the strain level at the interface layer between asphalt layer and lean concrete layer. Once the training database set of various strain levels was constructed under the several condition of layer stiffnesses and thicknesses in the asphalt concrete structures, the data set was trained through the HS algorithm in order to determine the regression coefficients defined based on a response surface methodology. Furthermore, the testing set, which was not used for the training procedure of HS algorithm, was also constructed in order to evaluate whether the regression coefficients of a prediction model can be appropriately applied for other cases in asphalt concrete structures.
