Analysis on Wood Quality, Geometry Factor, and Their Effects on Lathe Check of Samama (Anthocephalus macrophyllus) Veneer

  • Relatively little information is available regarding the correlation between wood and veneer quality, especially for Samama wood, an endemic wood species in eastern Indonesia. This study addresses the quality of 8 years old Samama wood and its effect on the veneer quality. Samama wood quality was determined by evaluating its specific gravity, moisture content, fiber dimensions, and microfibril angle from pith toward bark. Meanwhile, veneer quality was assessed by examining veneer thickness and lathe check characteristics. Geometry factor model was constructed to elaborate the quantities of lathe check from pith toward bark. Results show that fair variations of veneer thickness, ranging from 1.5 mm to 3.0 mm, could be obtained from Samama wood. The quantity, depth, and length of lathe check were noticeably decreasing toward bark. Further, in the same manufacturing process, geometry factor was determined as the dominant factor over other wood properties in affecting the frequency of lathe checks from pith towards bark. These facts should be put into consideration in producing veneer from Samama wood. Moreover, these results enlighten the potential of Samama wood as plywood and other excellent veneer-based products.

고속 CNC 선반의 동특성 해석과 채터 예측 (Dynamic Characteristics Analysis and Chatter Prediction in High Speed CNC Lathe)

  • Vibrations in machine tools make many problems in precision, production efficiency, and machine performance. The relative vibration between a workpiece and a tool is very complicated due to many sources. In this study, the dynamic characteristics of a newly developed CNC lathe were analyzed and its chatter characteristics were predicted by a chatter analysis method using finite element analysis and 3 dimensional cutting dynamics. The simulated results showed very complex characteristics of chatter vibration and the borderline of limiting depth of cut was used as the stability limit. To check the validity of this method, cutting tests were done in the CNC lathe using a boring bar as a tool because boring process is very weak due to long overhang . The experimental results showed that the simplified borderline was to be considered as limiting depth of cut at which the chatter vibration starts and the stability limits depended on various cutting parameters such as cutting speed, feed and nose radius of tool.

  • This paper describes the systematic control method of process information transfer and machine cell control in FMS implementation. We have constructed an experimental FMS computer network and control system. The system hardware consists of host computer to manage process data and information transfer of machine cells, cell control computers to control machine cells(NC lathe, machining center). On the other hand, software is made up of oredr management module, NC program searching and generation module, NC part program error check module and cell control module. In this study, we could arrive at conclusion as following : The first, each task could be accomplihed by the efficient information transfer in hierachical computer network. The second, data base system of part programs and process control data is needed for the efficint information transfer and production management. Lastly, expansion of FMS control system could be achieved by the hierachical and decentralized computer control system.

고밀도 폴리에틸렌으로 접착한 합판의 접착성질과 해부학적 관찰 (Adhesion Characteristics and Anatomic Scanning of Plywood Bonded by High Density Polyethylene)

  • This study was carried out to discuss feasibility of high density polyethylene(HDPE) as a new substitute for the conventional adhesives in plywood manufacture. Plywood was composed of radiata pine(Pinus radiata) and Malas(Homallium feotidium) veneers and bonded by HDPE. Adhesion characteristics and anatomical scanning has been examined through tensile-shear strength test and scanning electron microscopy(SEM). The results are as follows; 1. Optimum loading quantity was 15g/$(30.3{\times}30.3)cm^2$, and tensile-shear strength increased with the increase of loading quantity. 2. Even at the hot pressing time of 1 minute, tensile-shear strength met the value of KS(over the 7.5kgf/$cm^2$), and tensile-shear strength increased with the increase of hot pressing time. 3. Plywood composed of veneer at moisture content of 19.6% showed similar tensile-shear strength to that at air conditioned moisture content of 11.4%. 4. Under the same condition of hot pressing time, tensile-shear strength of plywood bonded by HDPE met the KS value of boil and wet test and proved the same group as phenol formaldehyde adhesive. 5. HDPE films showed mechanical adhesion through penetration into the lathe check and ray of veneer.

나사 가공 관리를 위한 스마트팩토리 시스템 설계에 관한 연구 (A Study on Smart Factory System Design for Screw Machining Management)

  • 본 논문은 나사 가공을 위한 원재료 공급부터 시작해서 선반 머신으로 가공되어 제품의 불량 여부에 대한 검수를 스마트팩토리 기술이 도입된 로봇이 자동으로 조립 및 분해 작업을 통해 검수를 해주는 모니터링 시스템에 대해 제안하였다. 생산 지시 수량과 생산 지시에 따른 완료 체크는 변위센서로 원재료 입고 여부에 따른 생산 현황을 체크하였고 가공된 Female, male 의 피치, 외형 검사를 진행하여 OK, NG 판별을 한다. 로봇시스템에서는 원자재 적재, 반출, 파레트 이송 및 전반적인 공정에 개입하며, 유기적으로 구동될 수 있도록 중계역할을 하였고 나사 가공품에 대한 위치 정보는 비접촉 무선 태그를 활용하여 위치 정보를 수집하였고 Energy Saving System으로 장비 생산 효율성 및 가동율에 대해 체크하였다. 환경센서는 공조환경 데이터(온도, 습도)를 수집하여 정확한 온도 및 습도 측정 하여, 제품 가공 품질 영향 체크 제품의 구동 위험 수준 환경(과열, 다습)에 대해 관리 감시하였고 CNC 및 로봇모듈에 대한 제어는 PLC로 하여 이기종 시스템 통합 운영하였다.
