In this paper, measurement and analysis of ELF electric and magnetic fields in the vicinity of 22.9[kV] distribution line have been performed. The height of measuring point from the earth's surface was 1[m], and the distance between the device and the operator was more than 3[m]. The experiments have been carried out by lateral profile, and we have made use of FIELDS program for the sake of comparision the experimental data with the theoretical value. Electric and magnetic fields intensity were strong under a distribution line, and were inversely proportional to lateral distance. The profiles of electric field were M shape and those of magnetic field were $\cap$ shape. Electric and magnetic fields intensity were increased with increasing the measurement height.
In the autonomous vehicle, the reference lane is continually detected by machine vision system. And then the vehicle is steered to follow the reference yaw rates which are generated by the deviations of lateral distance and the yaw angle between a vehicle and the reference lane. To cope with the steering delay and the side-slip of vehicle, PI controller is introduced by yaw rate feedback and tuned from the simulation where the vehicle is modeled as 2 DOF and 79 DOF and verified by the results of an actual vehicle test. The lateral control algorithm by yaw rate feedback has good performances of lane tracking and passenger comfort.
Recent observations reveal that the Tsushima Current has a double-cored structure downstream of the Tsushima Island. To explain this, a simple analytical model is proposed based on the assumption of small lateral eddy viscosity. This model suggests that an otherwise uniform current becomes to have a stream core immediately after it enters a channel due to the action of lateral friction. The core is initially broad but becomes sharper downstream. The speed at which the core develops depends on the intensity of lateral eddy viscosity. Likewise, a single-cored stream changes rapidly to a double-cored stream when it passes through an island located in the center of the channel. When the stream leaves the island behind, the reverse process from the double-to single-cored structures takes place. In this case, however, the double-cored structure is retained for a significant distance from the island. Overall, this model suggests that the double-cored structure of the Tsushima Current observed downstream of the Tsushima Island Is created by the lateral friction exerted by the Tsushima Island.
Experimental study is conducted to identify the existence of a shrinking flame disk and to clarify its flame characteristics through the inspection of critical mole fraction at flame extinction and edge flame oscillation at low strain rate flames. Experiments are made as varying global strain rate, velocity ratio, and burner distance. The transition from a shrinking flame disk to a flame hole is verified through gradient measurements of maximum flame temperature. The evidence of edge flame oscillation in flame disk is also provided through numerical simulation in microgravity. It is found at low strain rate flame disks in normal gravity that buoyancy effects are importantly contributing to lateral heat loss to burner rim, and is proven through critical mole fraction at flame extinction, edge flame oscillation, and measurements of flame temperature gradient along flame disk surface.
PURPOSE: This study was conducted to investigate the effects of Kinesio taping and massage application to the calf muscles on ankle stability. METHODS: The study subjects were 66 healthy adults (male: 32, female: 34) who had no instability in their ankles. Subjects were randomly assigned to a Kinesio taping group or a massage group. The research tool used the Y-balance test to measure instability of the ankle. The distance between the right and left foot was measured from the center in the anterior, posterior-medial, and posterior-lateral directions. Massage was applied to the calf muscles three times over two weeks and Kinesio tape was attached to the calf muscle and tibialis anterior for 10 hours twice during the experimental period. RESULTS: The results showed that application of Kinesio taping resulted in increases in the distance between the feet increased in some directions. After the massage, the distance extended from the anterior and posterior-lateral directions was prolonged, and the ankle stability on the right and left sides was partially improved by massage application. CONCLUSION: Kinesio taping and massage applied to the calf muscles are appropriate interventions for the improvement of ankle stability. Based on the application times of massage, Kinesio taping appears to work more effectively for ankle stability.
At the initial stage of propulsion shaft design, in line with shaft alignment, an intensified consideration of lateral vibration is needed to verify its operational safety. Recently the alignment problem affecting the lateral vibration has been becoming issues. However, the theoretical method of forced lateral vibration analysis is not cleary established so far and it is about to simply limited among the classification societies and international standards to avoid the blade natural frequency resonance cpm outside of ${\pm}20%$ of engine rpm at MCR. On the other hand, longer center distance between each support bearing shows an affirmative result normally in shaft alignment analysis whereas the blade order resonance speed may cause lowering near the limitation in the aspect of lateral vibration. Therefore, it is required careful attention to engineers as described above. As a method to solve the problem, it is mainly considered that remove forward stern tube bearing. In this paper, based on a medium size container ship case, theoretical study was carried out in the context of the forward stern tube bearing. The various effects and functions of forward stern tube bearing are reviewed and evaluated. Then an guidance note to lead the conclusion is proposed.
The inertial migration of a two-dimensional elastic capsule in a channel flow was studied over the Reynolds number range $1{\leq}Re{\leq}100$. The lateral migration velocity, slip velocity, and the deformation and inclination angle of the capsule were investigated by varying the lateral position, Reynolds number, capsule-to-channel size ratio(${\lambda}$), membrane stretching coefficient(${\Phi}$), and membrane bending coefficient(${\gamma}$). During the initial transient motion, the lateral migration velocity increased with increasing Re and ${\lambda}$ but decreased with increases in ${\Phi}$, ${\gamma}$ and the lateral distance from the wall. The initial behavior of the capsule was influenced by variation in the initial lateral position ($y_0$), but the equilibrium position of the capsule was not affected by such variation. The balance between the wall effect and the shear gradient effect determined the equilibrium position. As Re increased, the equilibrium position initially shifted closer to the wall and then moved towards the channel center. A peak in the equilibrium position was observed near Re=30 for ${\gamma}=0.1$, and the peak shifted to higher Re as ${\gamma}$ increased. Depending on the lateral migration velocity, the equilibrium position moved toward the centerline for larger ${\gamma}$ but moved toward the wall for larger ${\Phi}$ and ${\gamma}$.
Objectives This case study was about a Taeyangin patient with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis identified as Hae-Yeok pattern. In this study, we report the significant improvement of extremity weakness of this patient after Sasang Constitutional medicine treatment. Methods The patient was identified as Taeyangin Hae-Yeok pattern and treated with Ogapijangchuk-tang and acupuncture. Korean-Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Functional Rating Scale-Revised (K-ALSFRS-R) was used to assess the overall function of the patient. And the Global Assessment Scale (GAS) was used to assess the change of upper and lower extremities weakness after the treatment.Result and Conclusion The K-ALSFRS-R total score decreased from 30 points to 26 points and extremity weakness showed significant improvement in GAS after 12 days treatment. Furthermore, walking distance was much longer after treatment. In conclusion, this study shows that Sasang constitutional medicine can be effective treatment for Taeyangin patient with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis.
Purpose: This study was to evaluate effectiveness of the modified position in scapular AP (anteriopo-sterior) projection. Materials and Methods: From June 2012 to July 2013, scapular AP projection was examined in 108 patients by use of conventional method and in 40 patients by use of modified method. We compared between conventional method and modified method following variables including sex, age, height, weight, and BMI. We measured and compared distance between lateral border of the scapular and the rib to confirm the separation of the scapular from the lung fields including the ribs. Results: The scapular AP projection was technically successful in all patients. There was no significant difference in patient characteristics including sex, age, height, weight, and BMI between conventional method and modified method. The mean distance between lateral border of the scapular and rib in conventional method and modified method was 15.09 mm and 26.33 mm, respectively. Modified method was significantly increased the distance between lateral border of the scapular and rib compared with conventional method (P < .01). Conclusion: The modified position in scapular AP projection was effective method to separate between the scapular and lung fields including the ribs compared with conventional position of scapular AP projection.
