Dirofilaria immitis (heartworm) infections affect domestic dogs, cats, and various wild mammals with increasing incidence in temperate and tropical areas. More sensitive antibody detection methodologies are required to diagnose asymptomatic dirofilariasis with low worm burdens. Applying current transcriptomic technologies would be useful to discover potential diagnostic markers for D. immitis infection. A filarial homologue of the mammalian translationally controlled tumor protein (TCTP) was initially identified by screening the assembled transcriptome of D. immitis (DiTCTP). A BLAST analysis suggested that the DiTCTP gene shared the highest similarity with TCTP from Loa loa at protein level (97%). A histidine-tagged recombinant DiTCTP protein (rDiTCTP) of 40 kDa expressed in Escherichia coli BL21 (DE3) showed immunoreactivity with serum from a dog experimentally infected with heartworms. Localization studies illustrated the ubiquitous presence of rDiTCTP protein in the lateral hypodermal chords, dorsal hypodermal chord, muscle, intestine, and uterus in female adult worms. Further studies on D. immitis-derived TCTP are warranted to assess whether this filarial protein could be used for a diagnostic purpose.

This work reports the tunneling effects of the lateral field emitters. Tunneling effect is applicable to the VMFS(vacuum magnetic field sensors). VMFS uses the fact that the trajectory of the emitted electrons are curved by the magnetic field due to Lorentz force. Polysilicon was used as field emitters and anode materials. Thickness of the emitter and the anode were $2\;{\mu}m$, respectively. PSG(phospho-silicate-glass) was used as a sacrificial layer and it was etched by HF at a releasing step. Cantilevers were doped with $POCl_3(10^{20}cm^{-3})$. $2{\mu}m$-thick cantilevers were fabricated onto PSG($2{\mu}m$-thick). Sublimation drying method was used at releasing step to avoid stiction. Then, device was vacuum sealed. Device was fixed to a sodalime-glass #1 with silver paste and it was wire bonded. Glass #1 has a predefined hole and a sputtered silicon-film at backside. The front-side of the device was sealed with sodalime-glass #2 using the glass frit. After getter insertion via the hole, backside of the glass #1 was bonded electrostatically with the sodalime-glass #3 at $10^{-6}\;torr$. After sealing, getter was activated. Sealing was successful to operate the tunneling device. The packaged VMFS showed very small reduced emission current compared with the chamber test prior to sealing. The emission currents were changed when the magnetic field was induced. The sensitivity of the device was about 3%/T at about 1 Tesla magnetic field.

Three small scale hollow circular reinforced concrete columns with aspect ratio 4.5 were tested under cyclic lateral load with constant axial load. Diameter of section is 400 mm, hollow diameter is 200 mm. The selected test variable is transverse steel ratio. Volumetric ratios of spirals of all the columns are 0.302~0.604% in the plastic hinge region. It corresponds to 45.9~91.8% of the minimum requirement of confining steel by Korean Bridge Design Specifications, which represent existing columns not designed by the current seismic design specifications or designed by seismic concept. The longitudinal steel ratio is 2.017%. The axial load ratio is 7%. This paper describes mainly crack behavior, load-displacement hysteresis loop, seismic performance such as equivalent damping ratio, residual displacement and effective stiffness and flexural over-strength of circular reinforced concrete bridge columns with respect to test variable. The regulation of flexural over-strength is adopted by Korea Bridge Design Specifications (Limited state design, 2012). The test results are compared with nominal strength, result of nonlinear moment-curvature analysis and the design specifications such as AASHTO LRFD and Korea Bridge Design Specifications(Limited state design).
On the basis of the evidence that electrical stimulation could promote healing and regeneration of bone, this study was performed to investigate the effects of electrical stimulation on rat extraction socket, and to evaluate the potential of clinical application of electrical stimulation. Forty rats were used and divided into control groups(l0)and the experimental groups(30) in this study. The maxillary 1st molar were extracted in both groups. In experimental group, electrical stimulation was given at the current intensity of lmA(Test-1), l0mA(Test-2), 25mA(Test-3) each day. At 1,3,5,7 days after the tooth extraction, rats in both groups were serially sacrificed. And the specimens were prepared with Hematoxylin-Eosin stain for the light microscopic evaluation. The results of this study were as follows; 1. At 1 day after the extraction, the periodontal ligament was found in the extraction socket wall. The formation of blood clot with dense infiltration of inflammatory cells in control group and there were less inflammatory cells in test group. 2. At 3 day after the extraction, the cells and collagen of the periodontal ligament were so actively proliferated and synthesized that invaded into the connective tissue of the extraction sockets in the control group. There were the formation of new bone in the basal & lateral portion of socket wall in test -2 and -3. 3. At 5 days after the extraction, there were no formation of new bone in control group. But the more electrical stimulation was applied, the more formation of new bone in test group. 4. At 7 days after the extraction, the extraction sockets were almost filled with trabecular bone in each group. Bone maturarity was remarkable in test-3. 5. The electrical stimulation at l0mA and 25mA was more effective in the bone formation at 5 and 7 days after the extraction. From the above results, electrical stimulation could promote the extraction socket wound healing, and be utilized in the clinical application of the residual ridge expansion.
This paper presents the results of a parametric study on the interaction between buried pipes and surface load using the finite element method of analysis. A series of laboratory model tests were also performed in order to validate the adopted finite element model and to capture essential features of the physical behavior of buried pipes subjected to surface load. In the parametric study, a wide range of boundary conditions were analyzed with emphasis on the response of the buried pipes to surface load. The results of analysis such as contact stress distribution at the soil/pipe interface and axial thrust of the pipe were thoroughly analyzed, and a database on the response of buried pipe under surface load was established for future development of a semi-empirical design/analysis method. The results indicated that the degree of interaction between buried pipes and surface load significantly varies with the vertical and lateral location of pipe with respect to surface load, and that the current design method, which does not consider soil-structure interaction, cannot correctly capture the pipe response to surface loading. Furthermore, based on the results of analysis, a semi-empirical equation was suggested, which estimates the maximum pipe thrust due to surface load for flexible buried pipes.
The failure of cut slopes frequently occurs particularly during the thawing season and the rain season in summer. This study interpreted data collected from site to which a real-monitoring system was applied in order to analyze the causes of ground behaviors and to forecast future slope failure. As for research methods, this study analyzed the size and mechanism of failure by integrating the results of field surveys and measurements. Furthermore, it analyzed data transmitted by the monitoring system installed in the a result, three times of ground displacement occurred as well as a number of partial tension cracks. The cut slope composed of sandstone and siltstone started its initial behavior as a result of torrential downpour and the loss of support of the substructure. For quantitative analysis of the characteristics of ground behavior, this study measured 5 lateral lines. According to the result of the measurement, displacement happened little in the section to which countermeasure had been applied, but displacement of maximum 400mm happened in the section to which countermeasure had not bee applied. The analysis of data on displacement and rainfall suggested a close relationship between ground behavior and rainfall. According to the result of stability interpretation along with the change of ground saturation, stability rate appeared to be less than 1.0 when ground saturation is over 55%. Although the current trend of ground behavior is at a stable stage falling within the range of tolerance, it is considered necessary to continue monitoring and data analysis because ground displacement is highly possible with the change of temperature during the winter.

Although the electrophoretic deposition method has the advantage of simple processing procedure, less fabrication facilities, and easier control for deposition thickness and wire length, providing economical and technical merits, it also has the disadvantages of cracking and porosity phenomena, requiring an improved processing method for higher particle density and constant particle orientation. we have developed an optimization method to increase the particle density and to unify its orientation, and have performed a study to overcome the cracking and porosity problems in the fabricated superconductor. In order to improve the surface uniformity and the conduction properties of the fabricated YBCO thick films, a system that applies alternate voltage vertically has been developed for the first time and applied to the electrophoretic deposition process. The applied alternate electric field caused a force to be exerted on each YBCO particle and resulted in a rotation of the particle in the direction of applied electric field, accomplishing a uniform particle orientation. We name this process as the shaky-aligned electrophoretic deposition method. For commercial utilization and efficiency, in this dissertation, alternating voltage of 60 Hz and 25 ∼ 120 V/cm was proposed to apply it as a subsidiary source for shaky-flow deposition so that the fabricated thin film showed uniform surface morphology with less voids and cracks and Tc,zero of 90 K and the critical current density of 3419 A/$cm^2$.

Purpose: To correct breast ptosis, reduction mammoplasty and mastopexy have been developed in a way that minimizes complications. Recently, as the mean age of breast cancer occurrence is decreasing, the need for breast reconstruction in patients with breast cancer is rising. If mastopexy is performed with breast reconstruction at the same time, the size of the normal breast and the new one is not quite different. We decided to apply Z-plasty, which is a widely-used technique in plastic surgery to lengthen or change the direction of tension of the tissue. Methods: From March 2008 to December 2009, we performed breast reconstruction in 6 patients with breast cancer and scar contracture. After breast reconstruction, mastopexy with Z-plasty was applied to correct the asymmetry. The new nipple-areolar complex is placed on the line connecting the midclavicle and the current nipple. The inferior border of the new areola corresponds with the inferior border of the original areola, and the superior border about 2 cm upward the original superior border. We drew two oblique lines connecting the medial end of the incision line lower to the nipple-areola complex and the lateral end of the inframammary fold for Z-plasty. The excess tissue between these two lines was removed and the new triangular flaps were put together. Results: The average age of patients was 42.6 years, aged from 36.1 to 48.1 The weight of removed tissue was between 54g and 95 g, with the mean of 74 g. The average distance from the midclavicle to the nipple was 24 cm before surgery, and 21 cm after the surgery. The average operation time per patient (1 mastopexy) was 45 minutes, and the patients were satisfied with the size and shape. Conclusion: Applying Z-plasty for the mastopexy on the normal breast ptosis is a relatively simple way to achieve symmetry in patients who need breast reconstruction.

A total of 31 C. chinense lines selected from 2000 screening were tested again for resistance to P. capsid but resistance was not found in tile lines. A total of 26 selections from Korean land races tested 2001 spring were tested again for resistance to P. capsici, KC180, KC230, KC195 and KC194 showed moderate resistance to P. capsid. However, it was apparent on the basis of horticultural characteristics that KC180 and KC230 had been naturally crossed with AC2258 and CM334, respectively. CM334 and AC2248 seed lots that were increased in different years were taken out and tested for resistance to improve their genetic purity because the resistant genetic resources have been showing some off-types in tile population. Off-types began to be found in 1992 seed lots and tile proportion and degree of tile offs was increasing with time up to 2001. Plants true to the type in 1992 seed lots were selected and their inbred seeds were mass produced in a net cage in the greenhouse. AC2258 included in the experiment together was uniform. In 1995 seed lots of CM334, plants with resistance to P. capsici and low or no number of lateral branching at cotyledonary axil, although they were off from tile original CM334, were found and selection was applied to breed lines fixed in tile characters.
It is known that the content of asparagine, an excellent detoxifying substance of alcohols in human body, is the highest in the roots of soy-sprout. At the same time, it is inferred that soy-sprouts producing more roots are better for detoxifying. In this experiment, the effects of room temperatures on number of watering per day, and duration of soy-sprout culture were carefully investigated. Some of the results obtained are as follows; 1. The yield rate of soy-sprouts for Agakong and Pungsannamulkong was continuously increased up to 9 days. It was higher in room temperature of $30^{\circ}C$ than in $20^{\circ}C$ and was the highest at 8th day of culture with 5 times of watering per day. 2. The asparagine content in soy-sprouts of Agakong and Pungsannamulkong was the highest in cotyledon and the lowest in roots. This rate was higher in the room temperature of $20^{\circ}C$ than in $30^{\circ}C$. 3. The highest asparagine content of soy-sprout of Agakong was 18.9%, obtained in the room temperature of $30^{\circ}C$, cultivated for 8 days with 5 times of watering per day. 4. The highest asparagine content of Pungsannamulkong was 18.8%, obtained in hypocotyl cultivated in the room temperature of $30^{\circ}C$ for 8 days with the number of 2 times watering per day. 5. When an cultivation apparatus of 5 liters volume was used, the optimum seed amount for the highest yield rate was 300g for Agakong and 500g for Pungsannamulkong. At the same time, the number of lateral roots showed increasing tendency with more amounts of soybean seeds used.
