Many bulk carrier losses have been reported of late, and one of the possible causes of such casualties is thought to be the structural failure of aging hulls in rough weather. Clearly, in such cases, vessels that start out belong adequate somehow become marginal later in life. Fatigue and corrosion related potential problems may be the most important factors affecting such age related vessel damage. With respect to fatigue, extensive studies have been done worldwide both experimentally and theoretically, and the results have been applied to some extent. However, in the case of corrosion effects, additional research is still needed to better understand, clarify and address the various strength uncertainties and their effects on structural behavior. This paper develops a probabilistic corrosion rate estimation model for the longitudinal strength members of bulk carriers. The model is based on available statistical data for corrosion of existing bulk carriers. The corrosion data collected are documented for future use.
In this paper, setting and strength performances of concrete containing saccharic type super retarding agents are investigated under various kinds and contents of super retarding agents. According to test results, as super retarding agents contents increase, slump shows to be increased, while air contents decrease about 1∼2%. Setting time shows to be retarded considerably with increase of super retarding agents. It takes 20 days after mixing to reach final setting in case of concrete containing gluconic acid more than 0.3%. And 10 days after mixing in case of enhancing sucrose, white and brown sugar. Compressive strength of concrete containing super retarding agents is lower than that of plain concrete at early age. However, it keeps up with and exceeds the compressive strength of plain concrete at later age. White sugar md brown sugar shows positive performances in delaying setting time and strength compared to existing super retarding agents. n further investigations on durability are conducted, it is thought that application of white sugar as super retarding agent is available.

When fresh concrete is exposed to the cold weather, the concrete may happen frost damage because of freezing at early ages and the strength development may be go down. Therefore, this paper is intend to investigate the properties and availabilities of cold weather concrete using anti-freeze based formate-acetate for ensure of excellent concrete quality on cold temperature. According to test result for concrete in anti-freeze agent, strength properties in sub-zero temperature increases in comparison with concrete of non anti-freeze agent without decline of strength until later age. When anti-freezing agent is added by 3.0% to binder, it gives good effects on the performance of the fresh and harden concrete.
In addition to aging social problem, the problem of older age structure ratio in the fire service organization playing the leading role of the disaster response activities is also expected to be this serious situation. In the case of Seoul fire fighting organization, it is expected that the ratio of over the age 50 reaches 31% or 40% between from 10 to 15 years later from now on, but this will be a serious problem in the fire fighting personnel needing a healthy body and physical strength in the disaster situation unlike the civil servants of general staff. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to take measures that can adapt to a new disaster environment of Increasing proportion of the elderly population by presenting the criteria of age limit of fire fighting field activities to analyze the relevance of the ability to perform on-site activities and age of Seoul fire civil servants, by using three analysis criteria.

This study was attempted in order to search for phyosical properties on various mix designs of concrete as ne of studies relating top revention against corrosion by action of sea water in the West Sea. In this study, as concerete mix design, fly ash, pozzolith and vinsolresin were used as admixtures for normal portland cement respectively, and pozzolan cement and normal cement were also used for each plain concrete. Concrete specimens were made and cured in accordance with the Korean Standard Specifications for concrete. In thetest, compressive strengths of the specimens were measured at the following ages; 7-day, 28-days and 3-months. Absorption test was made by immersing the specimens in water kept at boiling temperature for 5 hours. The results obtained from the tests are summarized as follows; 1. The use of fly ash as an admixture in mix design of concrete, has an effect on compressive strength at each age. But it is actually not effective on absorption by concrete, as the result of the fly ash concrete is almost the same at that of ordinary plain concrete. 2. The use of pozzolith as an admixture in mix design of concrete, has an effect on both of compressive strength at each age and absorption rate. The pozzolith is more effective than vinsol resin, relating to improvement for physical proreties of concrete. 3. The use of vinsol resin as an admixture in mix design of concrete, has also an effect on both of compressive strength at each age and absorption rate. As the above fact, effectiveness of the vinsol resin is some what lower than pozzolith, as far as physical properties of the concrete are concerned. 4. Plain concrete used pozzolan cement only is the most effective on both of strength at each age and absorption rate in this study. The pozzolan cement is characteristic of higher strenth as the age is later. 5. Relationship between compreessive strengths and absorption rates of the concrete is shown by a different regression line dependingon ages. The gradient of the regression line is steeper as the age is later. 6. Throught physical test, it may be expected that the use of pozzolith and vinsol resinas asan admixture respectively will be better resistant than fly ash or ordinary plain concrete and that plain pozzolan concrete will also be the best resistant to action of sea water due to improvement of theirphysical properties.

This study investigates the engineering properties of the high strength concrete depending on dosages and types of shrinkage reduction agent. Test results showed that for the properties of fresh concrete, the addition of the conventional shrinkage reduction agent (SR) of 0.25% decreased slump flow up to 40% as compared with control concrete, whereas the addition of the emulsified waste cooking oil (EWCO) decreased slump flow of only 5% to 10%. Other properties of fresh concrete with the agents, namely air content, unit weight and setting time, were similar to the results of the control concrete. For the properties of hardened concrete, the compressive strength of the concrete with SR decreased at both early and later stage. However, the compressive strength of the concrete with EWCO was similar to the control concrete at early age, but decreased at later stage (up to 10% reduction at 28 days). For the effect of the agents on autogenous shrinkage of the concretes, the addition of EWCO decreased up to 33%, whereas that of SR decreased up to 29%. Hence, it can be said that the addition of EWCO in high strength concrete has an effect on reducing the autogenous shrinkage as compared with a conventional agent and only slight influence on the slump flow and air content of concrete. By taking all aspects of using EWCO, it is concluded that the optimum content of EWCO will be in the range of between 0.5% and 0.75%.

Cement Fineness Modulus (CFM) is a method of expressing the distribution of particle sizes of cement in numeric form. If CFM is controlled through crush process of cement without modifying the chemical components or mineral composition of cement, it is judged to be able to produce a cement satisfying various requirements because it is estimated to enable various approaches to cement such as high early strength, moderate heat, low heat cement and so on. Therefore, in this study, as basic research for manufacturing special cement utilizing the controls of CFM, the intention was to review the impacts of CFM on the fundamental properties of concrete. To summarize the result, as mixture characteristics of fresh concrete, ratio of small aggregate and unit quantity were gradually increased, securing greater fluidity, with an increase in CFM, while the amount of AE and SP were reduced gradually. In addition, setting time was delayed as CFM increased. Furthermore, compression strength was relatively high during initial aging as CFM became smaller, but as time passed, compression strength became smaller, and it showed the same level of strength as aging time passed about three years.
This paper presents the effect of different micro-silica (MS) contents of 5, 10 and 15 wt.% as partial replacement of cement on mechanical and durability properties of high volume fly ash - recycled aggregate concretes (HVFA-RAC) containing 50% class F fly ash (FA) and 35% recycled coarse aggregate (RCA) as partial replacement of cement and natural coarse aggregate (NCA), respectively. The measured mechanical and durability properties are compressive strength, indirect tensile strength, elastic modulus, drying shrinkage, water sorptivity and chloride permeability. The effects of different curing ages of 7, 28, 56 and 91 days on above properties are also considered in this study. The results show that the addition of MS up to 10% improved the early age (7 days) strength properties of HVFA-RAC, however, at later ages (e.g. 28-91 days) the above mechanical properties are improved for all MS contents. The 5% MS exhibited the best performance among all MS contents for all mechanical properties of HVFA-RAC. In the case of measured durability properties, mix results are obtained, where 10% and 5% MS exhibited the lowest sorptivity and drying shrinkage, respectively at all ages. However, in the case of chloride ion permeability a decreasing trend is observed with increase in MS contents and curing ages. Strong correlations of indirect tensile strength and modulus of elasticity with square root of compressive strength are also observed in HVFA-RAC. Nevertheless, it is established in this study that MS contributes to the sustainability of HVFA-RAC significantly by improving the mechanical and durability properties of concrete containing 50%less cement and 35% less natural coarse aggregates.
The influence of $P_2O_5$ on clinker mineral composition and the cement quality was investigated. When the sewage sludge was used as a raw material in place of clay, the presence of $P_2O_5$ in sewage sludge affects the mineral composition and the clinker quality. As the $P_2O_5$ concentration in raw mix increases, the burnability of clinker becomes worse and the alite decomposes into belite and free-CaO, so belite increases with the decrease of alite. The early strength of mortar decreases with the increase of $P_2O_5$ concentration. On the other hand, later-age strength increases with the increase of belite content. The setting time of cement was delayed with the $P_2O_5$ concentration above 0.6 wt%.

In this study, the analysis was conducted in the aspect of non-hardened concrete of Ternary Mixed Aggregates, and it was determined that flowing and amount of air increased as the mixing combinations of RS increased. However, it is difficult to see the phenomenon only as a result of increasing mixing combinations of RS, and it is thought that the influence of CS and SS also plays a large role. For later analysis, we plan to conduct research on compressive strength and shrinkage according to age, and analyze more suitable mixing combinations.
