Low level laser therapy has various therapy effects. This paper performed the basic study for developing the Low Level Laser Therapy Equipment for medical treatment. The apparatus has been fabricated using the laser diode and microprocessor unit. This equipment was fabricated using a micro-controller and a laser diode, and designed to enable us to control light time, frequency and so on. In this study, the designed device was used irradiation to find out how 850 nm laser diode affected the cell proliferation of RAT bone-marrow cells. Experiment was performed to irradiation group and non-irradiation group for Rat bone marrow cells. MTT assay method was chosen to verify the cell increase of two groups and the effect of irradiation on cell proliferation was examined by measuring 590 nm transmittance of micro plate reader. As a result, the cell increase of Rat bone marrow cells was verified in irradiation group as compared to non-irradiation group. The fact that specific wavelength irradiation has an effect on cell vitality and proliferation is known through this study.
This study was designed to evaluate the analgesic effect of low power GaAsAl laser on the pain threshold of mechanical stimulation using different treatment points, acupuncture point (zusanli) and non-acupuncture points(back). Furthermore, we investigated the analgesic effect of low power GaAsAl laser using the different duration and intensity of laser in mechanical stimulation induced pain behavior. The results were summarized as follows: 1. The threshold of mechanical stimulation was significantly increased by GaAsAl laser stimulation into zusanli point after 15 and 30 min after laser stimulation(P<05). However, the laser stimulation into non-acupoint did not affect the pain threshold of mechanical stimulation. with dose dependent manner. 2. In order to investigate the analgesic effects of BV depending upon different intensities of laser stimulation, the experimental animals were divided into three groups: 3 mW treated group, 6 mW treated group and 10 mW treated group. The low power GaAsAl laser stimulation was applied into zusanli acupoint for 30 min with different intensity of laser stimulation. Six and ten mW of laser stimulation significantly increased the pain threshold of mechanical stimulation at 15 min after laser stimulation as compared to that of control group(P<.05). Moreover, the analgesic effect of 10 mW laser stimulation was maintained for 30 min after laser stimulation (P<.05). 3. Finally, we tested the analgesic effect of 10 mW laser stimulation using different duration such as 10 min, 30 min or 1 hr after application of mechanical stimulation. In 30 min treatment group, the pain threshold of mechanical stimulation was increased at 15min and 30min after laser stimulation(P<.05). However, laser stimulation for 60 min dramatically increased the pain threshold of mechanical stimulation at 0 min after laser stimulation and the analgesic effect of laser stimulation was observed until 1 hr after laser stimulation. In conclusion, these data apparently demonstrate that low power GaAsAl laser has analgesic effect on mechanical induced pain model in rats. In addition, the treated point, intensity and duration of laser stimulation should be concerned before clinical application for pain management purpose.
Objective: The objective of this study was to assess the ability of Gagamhyunggaeyungyotang(jiajianjinggailianqiao-tang) and the enhancement of the parallel treatment with laser therapy and combined essential oil inhalation on children's turbid nasal discharge. Objective: A prospective, assessor-blinded, randomized controlled trial was conducted in patients with chronic low back pain to evaluate the efficacy of portable low power laser therapy (LPLT) and the effect when combined with exercise therapy on pain and functions. Method: 60 patients were recruited and 56 patients, excluding 4 dropouts, were randomly allocated to the LPLT group (Group 1: 19 patients), placebo laser therapy with exercise group (Group 2: 18 patients), and LPLT with exercise group (Group 3: 19 patients). Laser therapy and exercise was performed five times a week for 4 weeks. Visual analogue scale (VAS), Schober test, lumbar range of motion (ROM) measures (flexion, extension and lateral flexion), Oswestry Disability index (ODI) were measured at baseline, at 4 weeks after intervention, and at 6 weeks after 2 weeks of no intervention. Results: Statistically significant improvements were noted in all group by time interaction with respect to all outcome parameters (p<0.05). All parameters in each group improved not only in the period of treatment (4 weeks), but also in the final evaluation (6 weeks) 2 weeks after the end of treatment. Post-hoc analysis showed statistically significant difference between the LPLT with exercise group and the other groups in all outcome parameters except for the ODI at 4 weeks and at 6 weeks. Conclusion: Portable LPLT is effective treatment in reducing pain and improving lumbar ROM and with exercise is more effective than laser or exercise monotherapy for the chronic low back pain patients.

A laser system for therapy of cancer is proposed in this paper. In order to accuracy and statistical output control we used the constant current control method and designed the power source to protect the resonator from the over -current, rush-current and electrical fault. The most important things are the radiation type for cancer therapy in laser system, we developed the radiation type of cw, pulse, and burst pulse. The experimental result show that laser beam power increase linearly from 100mW to 300mW for input current increasing and the exposure time.

Objectives : The purpose of this report to represent the efficacy of pressure ulcer treatment with fractional laser therapy and Korean medicine. Methods : We treated Parkinsonism patients with pressure ulcer using herbal medicine, fractional mode laser therapy, acupuncture and simple dressing for 3 weeks. Laser was set on fractional mode (on time $100{\mu}s$, dot pitch 0.6 mm, shape RECT) and irradiated around pressure ulcer site and center of pressure ulcer site once a day. The treatment effect was evaluated by The National Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel(NPUAP) stage and the The Pressure Ulcer Scale for Healing(PUSH) tool(3.0). Results & Conclusions : Pressure ulcer site have improved markedly. NPUAP stage was improved from 2 to 1 and total score of the PUSH tool decreased from 12 to 8. Even though the wound was not cured completely, this shows that fractional laser therapy and Korean medicine could be effective treatment for improving pressure ulcers.
The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of varying levels of photobiostimulation treatment dosage on plasma ${\beta}$-endorphin concentration in humans. The subjects of this study were 21 healthy men and women, who were students of the Department of Physical Therapy, College of Health Science, Seonam University. This study was performed from October 26, 1998 to November 5, 1998. All subjects were assigned to one of three groups: a 2.0 $J/cm^2$ laser group, a 4.0 $J/cm^2$ laser group, an 6.0 $J/cm^2$ laser group. He-Ne laser (632.8 nm wave length) and infrared laser (820 nm wave length) of three different energy densities (2.0, 4.0, and 6.0 $J/cm^2$) were applied on the Su-Sam-Ri (L I 10) and Hab-Gog (L I 4) of acupuncture points. Blood samples were taken at pre-treatment, 30 min's post-treatment and 60 min's post-treatment. The level of ${\beta}$ endorphin was measured by radio immuno assay. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics and repeated measure two-way ANOVA. The results of this study were as follows: 1) The human plasma ${\beta}$-endorphin concentrations were noted to significantly increase due to the energy densities of laser photobiostimulation (p<0.05). 2) The human plasma ${\beta}$-endorphin concentrations were noted to significantly increase during the period after laser photobiostimulation (p<0.05).

Low intensity laser irradiation is potential physical agent that triggers the muscle regeneration by previous study. In muscle regeneration, a number of growth factors also promotes that is triggered in response to muscle damage. The transforming growth factor(TGF)-$\beta$ is involved in the activation of cell proliferation and the inhibition of cell differentiation in muscle regeneration. This is secreted not only autocrine system but also paracrine and endocrine. Therefore, We investigated that effects of Gallium aluminum arsenide(GaAlAs) diode laser for the expression of TGF-$\beta$ on lumbar spinal cord after extensor digitorum muscle crush injury. After laser irradiation, the immunoreactivity of TGF-$\beta$ was increased bilaterally in gray mater of spinal cord. Especially, in 1 day, experimental group was highed than control, and in 3 day, lateral motor nucleus were storong immunoreactivy of TGF-$\beta$. Also, in 1 and 2 day, TGF-$\beta$ was showed in white mater as well as gray mater, but in 3 day, only showed in gray mater. These data may suggests to the establishment of laser irradiation on spinal cord for skeletal muscle injury.
The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of laser Irradiation on Human plasma $\beta-endorphin$ levels, by treating with low level helium-neon (He-Ne) and Infrared(lR) laser. The Laser was fixed frequency of 2400Hz by continuous scanning and irradiating time was 8 minutes each point. Blood samples were taken at before, after, after 15min's treatment and Plasma $\beta-endorphin$ was measured by radioimmunoassay. The samples for this study were 6 normal subjects(3male, 3female). The data were analyzed by paired t-test, one-way ANOVA and simple regression. The results of this study were as follows : 1. The human plasma $\beta-endorphin$ levels were noted as significant increase in after-treatment $(22.84{\pm}10.63pg/ml)$ as compared with before-treatment $(16.96{\pm}9.23pg/ml)$ and significant increase in after 15min's $(27.27{\pm}8.81pg/ml)$ as compared with after-treatment (p<0.05). 2. There were no significant changes in plasma g-endorphin levels between male and female. 3. The human plasma $\beta-endorphin$ levels were high associated in between session reliability (p<0.05).

In this paper, we optimized the PDT laser system to improve the therapy effects of malignancies. In order to optimize, the variation of laser output and specific wavelength shift have to reduced. To improve the PDT therapy clinician require the diverse radiation mode which irradiate the tumor surface. Continuous wave mode that general application may causes tissue thermal damage not only to tumor tissue, but also to normal tissue. In this paper, therefore, we suggested new technique for radiation method to improved PDT effects and prevented to the thermal effects for the tissue. In the experimental we verified the stability of wavelength, laser output stability and proved the reduced thermal effects to the tissue using the pulse & burst radiation modes in vitro.
