Volume visualization is an important subarea of scientific visualization, and is concerned with techniques that are effectively used in generating meaningful and visual information from abstract and complex volume datasets, defined in three- or higher-dimensional space. It has been increasingly important in various fields including meteorology, medical science, and computational fluid dynamics, and so on. On the other hand, virtual reality is a research field focusing on various techniques that aid gaining experiences in virtual worlds with visual, auditory and tactile senses. In this paper, we have developed a visualization system for CAVE, an immersive 3D virtual environment system, which generates stereoscopic images from huge human volume datasets in real-time using an improved volume visualization technique. In order to complement the 3D texture-mapping based volume rendering methods, that easily slow down as data sizes increase, our system utilizes an image-based rendering technique to guarantee real-time performance. The system has been designed to offer a variety of user interface functionality for effective visualization. In this article, we present detailed description on our real-time stereoscopic visualization system, and show how the Visible Korean Human dataset is effectively visualized on CAVE.
Due to the continuing technical progress in the capabilities of modeling, simulation, and sensor devices, huge volume data with very high resolution are common. In scientific visualization, various interactive real-time techniques on high performance parallel computers to effectively render such large scale volume data sets have been proposed. In this paper, we present a mobile volume visualization system that consists of mobile clients, gateways, and parallel rendering servers. The mobile clients allow to explore the regions of interests adaptively in higher resolution level as well as specify rendering / viewing parameters interactively which are sent to parallel rendering server. The gateways play a role in managing requests / responses between mobile clients and parallel rendering servers for stable services. The parallel rendering servers visualize the specified sub-volume with rendering contexts from clients and then transfer the high quality final images back. This proposed system lets multi-users with PDA simultaneously share commonly interesting parts of huge volume, rendering contexts, and final images through CSCW(Computer Supported Cooperative Work) mode.
Multidimensional scaling (MDS) is a widely used method for dimensionality reduction, of which purpose is to represent high-dimensional data in a low-dimensional space while preserving distances among objects as much as possible. MDS has mainly been applied to data visualization and feature selection. Among various MDS methods, the classical MDS is not readily applicable to data which has large numbers of objects, on normal desktop computers due to its computational complexity. More precisely, it needs to solve eigenpair problems on dissimilarity matrices based on Euclidean distance. Thus, running time and required memory of the classical MDS highly increase as n (the number of objects) grows up, restricting its use in large-scale domains. In this paper, we propose an efficient approximation algorithm for the classical MDS based on divide-and-conquer and CUDA. Through a set of experiments, we show that our approach is highly efficient and effective for analysis and visualization of data consisting of several thousands of objects.
The hydrogen or oxygen gas producted by electrolysis become many bubbles in the electrolyte, but exact data on the behavior of these bubbles in the separator of an electrolysis stack didn't become known. In this study, the flow visualization experiment on the behavior of bubbles in the flow pattern of the array type separator is performed by using of a visible alkaline electrolysis stack and a stereoscopic microscope. As the results, a fine size bubbles adhered to the surface of the flow pattern grow to large sized bubbles until each bubble's buoyance is lager than the sum of external force and weight. And then the large bubbles flow into the upper area of the separator. Bubbles adhered to the surface of the vertical flow pattern grow quickly than them adhered to the surface of the horizontal flow pattern. Also, he electrolysis efficiency is declined because many multi-size bubbles occupied the wide volume in the flow pattern.

As human beings spend more time indoors, and with the growing complexity of indoor spaces, more focus is given to indoor spatial applications and services. 3D topological networks are used for various spatial applications that involve navigation indoors such as emergency evacuation, indoor positioning, and visualization. Manually generating indoor network data is impractical and prone to errors, yet current methods in automation need expensive sensors or datasets that are difficult and expensive to obtain and process. In this research, a methodology for semi-automatically generating a 3D indoor topological model based on IndoorGML (Indoor Geographic Markup Language) is proposed. The concept of Shooting Point is defined to accommodate the usage of omnidirectional images in generating IndoorGML data. Omnidirectional images were captured at selected Shooting Points in the building using a fisheye camera lens and rotator and indoor spaces are then identified using image processing implemented in Python. Relative positions of spaces obtained from CAD (Computer-Assisted Drawing) were used to generate 3D node-relation graphs representing adjacency, connectivity, and accessibility in the study area. Subspacing is performed to more accurately depict large indoor spaces and actual pedestrian movement. Since the images provide very realistic visualization, the topological relationships were used to link them to produce an indoor virtual tour.
Optical Line Patternator(OLP) has been applied to get a distribution of the spray at high ambient pressure. OLP is a combined technique of extinction measurement and image processing. The attenuated intensity of laser beam after traversing spray region was measured by using a photo-detector, and the line image of Mie-scattering was captured simultaneously in the path of each laser beam by using a CCD camera. The distribution of extinction coefficient in the spray is obtained by processing these data with the algebraic reconstruction technique. From the distribution of extinction coefficient, the surface distribution of spray can be reconstructed. OLP does not use laser sheet but use laser beam so that the noise effect of multiple scattering, caused by increasing number density of droplet in high pressure environment, is reduced drastically. OLP is expected as a suitable method which can investigate the characteristics of relatively large spray under the high pressure environment such as liquid rocket engine.
Five layers in mean flow are proposed by using the direct numerical simulation data of turbulent pipe flow up to Reτ = 3008. Viscous sublayer, buffer layer, mesolayer, log layer and core region are investigated. In the buffer layer, the viscous force is counterbalanced by the turbulent inertia from the streamwise mean momentum balance, and a log law occurs here. The overlap layer is composed of the mesolayer and the log layer. Above the buffer layer, the non-negligible viscous force causes the power law, and this region is the mesolayer, where it is the lower part of the overlap layer. At the upper part of the overlap layer, where the viscous force itself becomes naturally negligible, the log layer will appear due to that the acceleration force of the large-scale motions increases as the Reynolds number increases. In the core region, the velocity-defect form is satisfied with the power-law scaling.

Surface deflections have a great effect on the external appearance of automobiles. Usually, they are occurred on large flat panels containing sudden shape changes and of very small size about $\pm$30$\sim$300$\mu$m. Since the current numerical method is not sufficient for predicting these defects, the correction of these defects still depends on trial and error, which requires a great deal of time and expense. Consequently, developing the numerical method to predict and prevent these defects is very important far improving cosmetic surface qualities. In this study, an evaluation system that can analyze surface deflections using numerical simulation and a visualization system are reported. To calculate the surface deflections numerically, robust algorithms and simulation methodologies are suggested and to visualize them quantitatively, the curvature variation algorithm is proposed. To verify the developed systems, the experimental die of the handle portion of exterior door is analyzed. The results showed that the experimental and simulational visualization are in good agreement. Compensation methods to correct the surface deflections are also tested. The evaluation system proposed in this paper could be used to predict and minimize the occurrence of surface deflections in die manufacturing.

With the development of GeoWeb technology, 2D/3D spatial information services through the web are also has been used increasingly in the application of disaster management. This paper is suggested to construct a web-based 3D geo-spatial information mapping platform to visualize various spatial information collected at the disaster site in a web environment. This paper is presented a web-based geo-spatial information mapping service plan for the various types of 2D/3D spatial data and large-volume LiDAR point cloud data collected at the disaster accident site using HTML5/WebGL, web development standard technology and open source. Firstly, the collected disaster site survey 2D data is constructed as a spatial DB using GeoServer's WMS service and PostGIS provided an open source and rendered in a web environment. Secondly, in order to efficiently render large-capacity 3D point cloud data in a web environment, a Potree algorithm is applied to simplifies point cloud data into 2D tiles using a multi-resolution octree structure. Lastly, OpenLayers3 based 3D web mapping pilot system is developed for web visualization of 2D/3D spatial information by implementing basic and application functions for controlling and measuring 3D maps with Graphic User Interface (GUI). For the further research, it is expected that various 2D survey data and various spatial image information of a disaster site can be used for scientific investigation and analysis of disaster accidents by overlaying and visualizing them on a built web-based 3D geo-spatial information system.

Engineering or humanities data are stored in databases and are often used for search services. While the latest deep-learning technologies, such like BART and BERT, are utilized for data analysis, humanities data still rely on traditional databases. Representative analysis methods include n-gram and lexical statistical extraction. However, when using a database, performance limitation is often imposed on the result calculations. This study presents an experimental process using MariaDB on a PC, which is easily accessible in a laboratory, to analyze the impact of the database on data analysis performance. The findings highlight the fact that the database becomes a bottleneck when analyzing large-scale text data, particularly over hundreds of thousands of records. To address this issue, a method was proposed to provide real-time humanities data analysis web services by leveraging the open source database, with a focus on the Seungjeongwon-Ilgy, one of the largest datasets in the humanities fields.
