  • This paper considers a channel estimation scheme for millimeter-wave multiuser multiple-input multiple-output systems. According to the proposed method, parts of the beams are selected and the channel parameters are estimated according to the sparsity of channels and the orthogonality of the beams. Since the beams for each channel become distinct and the signal power increases with the increased number of antennas, the proposed approach is able to achieve good estimation performance. As a result, the sum rate can be increased in comparison with traditional approaches, and channels can be estimated with fewer pilot symbols. Numerical results verify that the proposed approach outperforms traditional approaches in cases with large numbers of antennas.

  • Sphere decoding (SD) for multiple-input and multiple-output systems is a well-recognized approach for achieving near-maximum likelihood performance with reduced complexity. SD is a tree search process, whereby a large number of nodes can be searched in an effort to find an estimation of a transmitted symbol vector. In this paper, a simple and generalized approach called layer pruning is proposed to achieve complexity reduction in SD. Pruning a layer from a search process reduces the total number of nodes in a sphere search. The symbols corresponding to the pruned layer are obtained by adopting a QRM-MLD receiver. Simulation results show that the proposed method reduces the number of nodes to be searched for decoding the transmitted symbols by maintaining negligible performance loss. The proposed technique reduces the complexity by 35% to 42% in the low and medium signal-to-noise ratio regime. To demonstrate the potential of our method, we compare the results with another well-known method - namely, probabilistic tree pruning SD.

  • In this paper, we consider a user centric clustering in order to guarantee the performance of the users in cell free multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) network. In the user centric clustering scheme, by using large scale fading coefficients of the connected access points (APs), each user decides own cluster with the APs having the higher the large scale fading coefficients than threshold value compared to the highest large scale fading coefficient. In the determined user centric clusters, the APs design the beamformers and power allocations in the distributed manner and the APs cooperatively transmit data to users by using beamformers and power allocations. In the simulation results, we verify the performance of user centric clustering in terms of the spectral efficiency and we also find the optimal threshold value in the given configuration.

  • Underwater communication is difficult to increase the communication capacity because the carrier frequency is lower than that of radio communications on land. This is limited to the bandwidth of the signal under the influence of the characteristics of an ocean medium. As the high transmission speed and large transmission capacity have become necessary in the limited frequency range, the studies on MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) communication have been actively carried out. The performance of the MIMO communication is lower than that of the SIMO (Single Input Multiple Output) communication because cross-talk occurs due to multiusers along with inter symbol interference resulting from the channel characteristics such as delay spread and doppler spread. Although the adaptive equalizer considering multi-channels is used to mitigate the influence of the cross-talk, the algorithm is normally complicated. In this paper, time reversal mirror technique with the characteristic of a self-equalization will be applied to simplify the compensation algorithm and relieve the cross-talk in order to improve the communication performance when the signal transmitted from two channels is received over interference on one channel in the same time. In addition, the performance of the MIMO communication based on the time reversal mirror is verified using data from the SAVEX15(Shallow-water Acoustic Variability Experiment 2015) conducted at the northern area of East China Sea in May 2015.

  • Fuzzy modelling is a useful method when the variation of plant dynamics is large. In the fuzzy modelling by parameter identification, a new method is proposed in the part of premise parameters identification and in expanding MISO system into MIMO system. Using the proposed method, a fuzzy model of the drum boiler of the thermal power plant can be derived. In addition, feedwater control of the drum by fuzzy controller using the fuzzy model, is simulated.

  • In this paper, self tuning control of interconnected systems are dealt in view point of large scale system control. The plant model is given in MIMO ARMA procss. This process is simlified as independent SISO ARMA processes having offset terma, which are considered as effects of interconnections. In each decentralized system, self tuning controller with instrumental variable method is adopted. As a result, this algorithm enables the paramter estimation to be unbiased and non-drift. This controller contains a new implicit offset rejection technique. Simulation results consider well with the analysis in case of linear interconnection.

  • We investigate lattice-reduction-aided precoding techniques using Look-Up table (LUT) for multi-user multiple-input multiple-output(MIMO) systems. Lattice-reduction-aided vector perturbation (VP) gives large sum capacity with low encoding complexity. Nevertheless lattice-reduction process based on the LLL-Algorithm still requires high computational complexity since it involves several iterations of size reduction and column vector exchange. In this paper, we apply the LUT-aided lattice reduction on VP and propose a scheme to generate the LUT efficiently. Simulation results show that a proposed scheme has similar orthogonality defect and Bit-Error-Rate(BER) even with lower memory size.

  • In this paper, we propose the structure of a dual polarized system for a wireless communication. The proposed dual polarized antenna is formed by one vertical antenna and two horizontal antennas that are orthogonal to each other. Vertical and horizontal polarized antennas transmit different signals, but two orthogonal horizontal polarized antennas transmit the same data signals. So, the signals of the proposed dual polarized system construct two dual-polarization planes. And, only one dual-polarization plane with a large signal power is selected at the side of a receiver. The simulation results show that the proposed dual polarized system could obtain a higher capacity compared to an ordinary $2{\times}2$ MIMO (Multi-input Multi-output) system.

  • In this paper, we investigate the impact of hardware impairments (HWIs) on the performance of a downlink massive MIMO system. We consider a single-cell system with maximum ratio transmission (MRT) as precoding scheme, and with all the HWIs characteristics such as phase noise, distortion noise, and amplified thermal noise. Based on the system model, we derive closed-form expressions for a typical user data rate under two scenarios: when a common local oscillator (CLO) is used at the base station and when separated oscillators (SLOs) are used. We also derive closed-form expressions for the downlink transmit power required for some desired per-user data rate under each scenario. Compared to the conventional system with ideal transceiver hardware, our results show that impairments of hardware make a finite upper limit on the user's downlink channel capacity; and as the number of base station antennas grows large, it is only the hardware impairments at the users that mainly limit the capacity. Our results also show that SLOs configuration provides higher data rate than CLO at the price of higher power consumption. An approach to minimize the effect of the hardware impairments on the system performance is also proposed in the paper. In our approach, we show that by reducing the cell size, the effect of accumulated phase noise during channel estimation time is minimized and hence the user capacity is increased, and the downlink transmit power is decreased.

  • In multi-user multi-input multi-output (MU-MIMO) system, zero forcing beamforming (ZFB) is regarded as a realistic solution for transmitting scheme due to its low complexity and simple structure. However, ZFB shows a significant performance degradation when channel matrix has large condition number. In this case, the largest singular value of the channel inversion matrix has a dominant effect on transmit power. In this paper, we propose a perturbation method for reducing an effect of the dominant singular value. In the proposed algorithm, channel inverse matrix is first decomposed by SVD for the transmit signal to be expressed as a combination of singular vectors. Then, the transmit signal is perturbed to reduce the coefficient of the singular vector corresponding to the largest singular value. When a number of transmit antennas is 4, the simulation results of this paper shows that the proposed method shows 8dB performance enhancement at 10-3 uncoded bit error rate (BER) compared with conventional ZFB. Also, the simulation results show that the proposed method provides a comparable performance to Tomlinson-Harashima Precoding (THP) with much lower complexity.
