추철근 겹침이음된 철근콘크리트 교각의 보강에 의한 내진성능평가 (Seismic Performance and Retrofit of Reinforced Concrete Bridge Piers with Spliced Longitudinal Steels)

  • It has been known that lap splicing in the longitudinal reinforcement of bridge columns is not desirable for seismic performance, but it is sometimes unavoidable. Lap splices were usually be located in the plastic hinge region of most bridge columns that were constructed before the adoption of the seismic design provision of Korea Bridge Design Specification on 1992. This research is to evacuate the seismic performance of reinforced concrete bridge piers with lap splicing of longitudinal reinforcement in the plastic hinge region, and to develop the enhancement scheme of their seismic capacity by retrofitting with glassfiber sheets and to develop appropriate limited ductility design concept in low or moderate seismicity region. Nine test specimens in the aspect ratio of 4.0 were made with three confinement ratios and three types of lap splicing. Quasi-static tests under three different axial load levees were conducted. It has been observed that displacement ductility ratios of test columns with lap splicing were significantly reduced.

  • Because of the congestion problems, the high-strength reinforcements are expected to be used in nuclear power plant structures in the near future. According to ACI 349-13, lap splices of high-strength(550MPa) bars can be used but it is expected that lap splice length of reinforcement will be increased significantly. The increased lap splice length will be lead to increase in construction cost & period and to problems of other bar congestions. Therefore, this study will analyze the economic feasibility on mechanical splice of high-strength reinforcement used nuclear power plant structures instead of lap splice.

  • Lap splice in plastic hinge region of RC bridge piers is inevitable because of the constructional joint between footing and column. RC circular columns with lap-splice in plastic hinge region are widely used in Korean highway bridges. It is, however, believed that there are not many experimental research works for nonlinear behavior of these columns subjected to earthquake motions. This study has been performed to verify the effect of axial force, lap splice and confinement steel ratio for the seismic behaviour of reinforced concrete bridge piers. Quasi-static test have been done to investigate the physical seismic performance of RC bridge piers, such as displacement ductility and enemy absorption.

유사정적실험에 의한 지진이력 철근콘크리트 교각의 내진 연성도 평가 (Seismic Ductility Assessment of RC Bridge Piers With Minor Earthquake Damage By the Quasi Static Test)

  • Experimental investigation was conducted into the flexure/shear-critical behavior of earthquake-damaged reinforced concrete columns with lap splicing of longitudinal reinforcement in the plastic hinge region. Six test specimens in the aspect ratio of 2,5 were made with test parameters: confinement ratios, lap splices, and retrofitting FRP materials. They were damaged under series of artificial earthquakes of which magnitude could be compatible in Korean peninsula. Directly after the pseudo-dynamic test, damaged columns were retested under inelastic reversal cyclic loading simultaneously under a constant axial load, P=$0.1f_{ck}A_g. Residual seismic performance of damaged columns was evaluated and compared to that of the corresponding original columns. Test results show that RC bridge piers with lap-spliced longitudinal steels in the plastic hinge region appeared to fail at low ductility. This was due to the debonding of the lap splice, which resulted from insufficient development of the longitudinal steels. The specimens externally wrapped with composite FRP straps in the potential plastic hinge region indicated significant improvement both in flexural strength and displacement ductility, and strain energy ductility.

  • The objective of this research is to evaluate of seismic performance for reinforced concrete bridge piers with lap splices of longitudinal reinforcement steels using predicting of nonlinear hysteric behavior. For the purpose, enhanced analytical trilinear hystretic model has been proposed to simulate the force-displacement hysteretic curve of RC bridge piers under repeated reversal loads. The moment capacity and corresponding curvature in the plastic hinge have been determined, and the enhanced hysteretic behavior model by five different kinds of branches has been proposed for modeling the stiffness variation of RC section under cyclic loading. The strength and stiffness degradation index are introduced to compute the hysteretic curve for various confinement steel ratios, In addition, the modified curvature factor has been introduced to forecast of seismic performance of longitudinal steel lap spliced and retrofitted specimens. The results of this research will be useful to predict of seismic performance for longitudinal steel with lap spliced and its retrofitted specimens.

  • It is known that seismic performance of existing bridges having insufficient lateral confinements and lap-splices of longitudinal reinforcements at the base of column decreases dramatically. In this study, small-scaled model tests have been performed to confirm the seismic behaviors of RC bridge piers with various lap-splice lengths. The 8 test models have circular section with diameters of 0.65 m, 0.8 m, 1.0 m, and lap-splice lengths of B-class or C-class. The test results show that the failure modes of models are not depending on the lap-splice length itself but depend on the ratio of lap-splice length to diameter, and that the displacement ductility is also affected by this ratio.

  • 철근콘크리트 교각의 시공시 소성힌지구간에서 주철근 겹침이음은 내진성능면에서 바람직하지 않으나 불가피하게 시공되는 경우가 있었다. 특히, 1992년 도로교표준시방서의 내진설계 기준이 마련되기 이전에 설계 시공된 대부분의 철근콘크리트 교각은 소성힌지구간에 주철근을 겹침이음 하였으며, 이들은 휨에 대한 소성영역에서의 거동에 직접적인 영향을 미친다. 본 연구에서는 직경 1.2m, 형상비 4.0의 휨파괴가 예상되는 비내진 및 한정연성시험체를 8기 제작하여 준정적(Quasi-Static)실험을 통한 철근콘크리트(RC) 교각의 소성힌지구간내의 주철근 겹침이음과 횡방향구속력이 내진성능에 미치는 영향을 평가하였다. 실험체의 변수로서는 $0\%,\;50\%,\;100\%$의 주철근 겹침이음, 2종류의 횡구속철근비 및 띠철근 형상을 선택하였다. 연구결과 주철근 겹침이음 정도에 따라 철근콘크리트 교각의 내진성능은 급격히 저하되었으며, 겹침이음이 없는 한정연성설계된 시험체의 경우 높은 내진성능을 발휘하였다. 연구결과에 따라 중저진지역에서 겹침이음된 주철근 교각의 내진성능을 위한 적절한 횡방향철근량을 제안하였다.

  • Before the implementation of the 1992 seismic design provisions in Korea, longitudinal steels of RC bridge piers were practically lap-spliced in the plastic hinge region. Experimental investigation was made to evaluate the seismic performance of RC bridge pier specimens in a flexure/shear mode. Six circular test specimens in an aspect ratio of 2.5 (600mm in diameter) were made with test parameters confinement ratio, lap splices, and retrofit FRP materials. They were damaged under a series of artificial earthquakes with 0.22g PGA, being compatible in Korean peninsula, through the pseudo-dynamic test. Probable damages were assessed by the Park and Ang damage index. Approximate 0.1 and 0.3 damage indices were obtained for RC specimens without lap splice and with lap splice, respectively. Directly after the pseudo-dynamic test, damaged test columns were laterally actuated under inelastic reversal cyclic loadings simultaneously under a constant axial load. Through curvature measurements, residual seismic performance was evaluated for test specimens. Test results show that RC pier specimens with lap-spliced appeared to fail at low ductility, but significant improvement was obtained for the ductility of these specimens if externally wrapped with FRP.

횡방향 구속응력에 의한 자켓팅-콘크리트 공시편 거동 (Behavior of concrete cylinders confined by jacketing with lateral confining stress)

  • 국내에는 내진설계가 적용되어지지 않고 설계 시공된 교량과 교각이 상당수 존재하며 지진 발생 시 취약한 소성흰지구간에서 충분한 횡구속 없이 주철근 겹침 이음을 가지고 있는 교각들이 다수 존재하고 있는 실정이다. 내진 성능향상을 위한 국내 많은 보강방법들이 연구되고 있는 추세이며 보다 효과적인 콘크리트 보강기법을 개발하기 위하여 횡방향 구속응력을 도입한 자켓팅 보강공법을 제시하였다. 자켓팅-콘크리트 공시편 압축 실험에서 강도 및 연성도에 영향을 주는 주요 요인 콘크리트은 압축강도, 보강량 및 보강재의 강도 등이다. 본 연구에서는 실시된 실험결과를 바탕으로 콘크리트 비선형 재료를 사용한 해석적 연구를 추가로 실시하여 실험에서 나타난 결과 값과 비교하고 실험 변수와 보강효과에 영향을 미치는 추가적인 변수를 추정하였다. 또한 선행 연구에서 제시된 횡방향구속응력을 사용한 자켓팅 보강공법의 적용성을 높이기 위한 방법들은 어떤 것들이 있는지에 대하여 서술 하였다.
