  • The purposes of this study are to confirm the applicability of the unobtrusive evaluation to Korean libraries, to develop survey forms, check lists and evaluation criteria appropriate for Korean libraries, to analyze the relationship between the test variables and the performance level, to find out the causes of poor service if any, and to propose measures for improving the quality of reference services. The main results of the analyses are as follows : $\cdot$ The accuracy of answers was correlated to appropriateness of search process, way of providing answer, usage of language, approachability and use of second materials in the order named. That is, there was a strong correlation between accuracy and the variables related to librarian's behavior. $\cdot$ There was no statistically significant relationship between accuracy and the environmental aspects of reference department such as number of professional librarians, self-evaluation of reference collection, etc. $\cdot$ The main reasons for failing to give accurate answers were found to be weaknesses in understanding questions. developing search strategy logically and relating the querries to available information sources.

  • Spam mail is one of the most general mail dysfunctions, which may cause psychological damage to internet users. As internet usage increases, the amount of spam mail has also gradually increased. Indiscriminate sending, in particular, occurs when spam mail is sent using smart phones or tablets connected to wireless networks. Spam mail consists of approximately 68% of mail traffic; however, it is believed that the true percentage of spam mail is at a much more severe level. In order to analyze and detect spam mail, we introduce a technique based on spam mail characteristics and text mining; in particular, spam mail is detected by extracting the linguistic analysis and language processing. Existing spam mail is analyzed, and hidden spam signatures are extracted using text clustering. Our proposed method utilizes a text mining system to improve the detection and error detection rates for existing spam mail and to respond to new spam mail types.

  • A simulation study was conducted to determine optimum capacity of Navy drydock facility using GASP-IV, an advanced FORTRAN-based simulation language, under demands of regular overhauls and emergency repairs by ships of an hypothetical fleet composition. Three year dock usage data was analyzed to produce probability distributions underlying drydock repair demands. The present facility size of two drydocks was simulated and was found to be somewhat short of adequate service capability, showing excessive average waiting time and average queue length. The simulation model was then modified to include an additional drydock of similar size as the other two and a year's simulation was again conducted. All repair needs were quite satisfactorily met and all docks showed very high utilization factor (0.98). This contributed to an increase in the fleet's ship availability from 0.95 to 0.99. This study illustrates the usefulness of simulation technique as a tool for analyzing policy alternatives in military long-term investment areas.

  • In this paper, the 128bit AES block cipher algorithm OCB (Offset Code Book) mode for privacy and authenticity of high speed packet data was efficiently designed in C language level and was optimized to support the required capacity of contents server using high performance DSP. It is known that OCB mode is about two times faster than CBC-MAC mode. As an experimental result, the encryption / decryption speed of the implemented block cipher was 308Mbps, 311 Mbps respectively at 1GHz clock speed, which is 50% faster than a general design with 3.5% more memory usage.

  • This study examined the readability of 4 different kinds of patient education handouts about computer tomography tests from 5 different university-affiliated hospitals in Korea. Readability was evaluated in terms of syntax. length of sentence, usage of unfamiliar words. foreign words. Chinese words, abbreviation, and technical jargon. This study found that all of the handouts were very difficult to read. An excessive use of complex and long sentences was found. Unfamiliar words, rarely used in everyday life, were recklessly used. Most of the unfamiliar words were Chinese words and can be exchanged with Korean language. Excessive medical terminologies were used without any explanations. Based on the study results, guidelines to make the handouts easier and more accessible to patients and their family were recommended.

  • The aim of this paper is to exam why the nouns that used /kh, ph, ts, th/, as the final phoneme changed. Assuming that these change related to the aspects of the word usage, we collected the word frequency and the phonetic form of words. The results are as follows : ① The realization of standard phonetic form is related to the frequency of case marker that could not be omitted, combined with the word. ② The changing into /s/ in a coronal consonant is related to the case marker [i].

  • This study analyzed changes in sociality and democratic-citizenship among elementary school students in the information class and the science class at the Science Education Institute for the Gifted, who were divided into an experimental group and a control group. The experimental group engaged in the Learning Together (LT) cooperative form of learning for which the remix function of Scratch, an educational programming language, was applied, while the control group was given general instructor-led lessons. Members in the experimental group were able to modify processes during projects through the usage of the remix function, thereby actively participating in the projects and eventually generating team-based results. The post-class t-tests showed a greater degree of improvements in sociality and democratic citizenship for the experimental group that was offered the remix-function-based cooperative learning than the control group. Statistically significant differences were present between two groups particularly in "cooperative spirit" sub-domain of sociality and the "community" and "responsibility" sub-domains of democratic citizenship.

  • The Giant Magellan Telescope Organization (GMTO) is developing the GMT Software Development Kit (SDK) for the Observatory Control System (OCS). The SDK models a subsystem of the GMT using a Domain Specific Language (DSL) which can generate a skeleton code and validates the availability of the model automatically. The OCS includes a Device Control System (DCS) and all the devices are connected with the DCS via EtherCAT. The DCS has a component (Hardware Adapter) to communicate with EtherCAT slaves. In this presentation, we demonstrate the modeling process and describe the importance and usage plan of the SDK.

  • The goal of this research is to look into different techniques to solve the problem of authorship verification for Arabic short writings. Despite the widespread usage of Twitter among Arabs, short text research has so far focused on authorship verification in languages other than Arabic, such as English, Spanish, and Greek. To the best of the researcher's knowledge, no study has looked into the task of verifying Arabic-language Twitter texts. The impact of Stylometric and TF-IDF features of very brief texts (Arabic Twitter postings) on user verification was explored in this study. In addition, an analytical analysis was done to see how meta-data from Twitter tweets, such as time and source, can help to verify users perform better. This research is significant on the subject of cyber security in Arabic countries.

  • Community enterprise plays an important role for developing local business. Products from local communities apply local specialties such as high-quality materials and inherited wisdom. This work aims to support merchandises from local community enterprises by bringing out their specialties related to local wisdom and intangible cultural aspects. An ontology is applied to demonstrate the innate information regarding the implicit values of the products and is used as a core for a semantic search system. Details of the products are gathered from their respective community using an interview method and are extracted to align with the developed ontological schema. The semantic search system thus is implemented with a recommendation process for online accessibility for providing the organised information. From evaluation, the developed ontology and its instances are rated highly for their consistency, conciseness, and completeness. In usage, accuracy of the query and recommendation results are evaluated at 97.38% searching accuracy and 85.03% for recommending interesting products.
