관제기(1894-1906) 관립 외국어학교 연구 (Official Foreign Language Schools in Korea, 1894-1906)

  • 본 연구는 관제기 관립 외국어학교의 교육사적 의미를 정리하기 위한 것으로, 이 시기 설립 운영된 6개 관립 외국어학교의 교사진 특성과 학생수 변화를 통해 당시 외국어교육 정책과 외국어학교간 비교우위를 살펴보고자 한다. 1894년 갑오개혁을 통해 과거제와 신분제를 폐지한 조선에서 외국어 교육은 근대적 문물 습득과 사회적 지위 상승을 위한 문화자본이었다. 본 연구를 통해 얻어진 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 관제기의 외국어학교는 당대 최고 수준의 교육기관이었다. 입학연령은 15세 이상 23세 이하였지만 실제 입학생들 대부분은 20세 이상이었다. 둘째, 관제기 외국어학교의 몇몇 교사 중에는 군사와 외교, 기술 분야 전문가도 있었다. 특히 법어학교 교사 마르텔은 대한제국 시기 중립외교 정책을 전개하는 데에 중요한 역할을 하였다. 셋째, 외국어학교의 학생 모집은 당시의 정치적 사회적 분위기에 많은 영향을 받았다. 넷째, 관제기 관립 외국어학교의 입학생 통계를 보면 한어학교, 법어학교, 영어학교의 순으로 비중이 높으며, 이는 당시 재학생 통계상 영어학교와 일어학교에 학생들이 집중된다는 일반적인 주장과는 다른 결과이다. 다섯째, 관제기 관립 외국어학교는 역관통사를 양성할 뿐만 아니라 경세가가 될 수 있는 문무 관료를 양성하였다.

Analysis of Keywords and Language Networks of Pedagogical Problems in the Secondary-School Teacher's Employment Exam : Focusing on the 2019~2022 School Year Exam

  • 본 연구의 목적은 2019~2022학년도 중등교사 임용시험 교육학문제의 연도별 핵심어와 그 경향, 핵심어들의 언어네트워크를 분석하여 그 결과를 제시하는 것이다. 주요 연구방법론은 텍스트 마이닝 기법과 언어네트워크 분석방법이었으며, 분석프로그램으로는 KrKwic, Wordcloud Maker, Ucinet6, NetDraw 등이었다. 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 연도별 교육학문제의 상위출현빈도 핵심어는 교사, 학생, 교육과정, 수업, 평가 등의 기존 상위출현빈도 핵심어들이었으며, 최근 코로나 19 상황의 온라인수업 진행을 반영한 핵심어(온라인, 위키, 토의식, 정보 등)들도 추가로 등장하는 경향을 보였다. 4개년도 통합 텍스트에서의 상위출현빈도 핵심어는 학생(44), 교사(39), 수업(27), 학교(18), 교육과정(16), 온라인(10), 토의식(8) 등이었다. 둘째, 4개년도 상위출현빈도 핵심어들의 전체 언어네트워크는 상당한 수준의 밀도(0.566), 총연결수(492), 평균연결정도(16.4)로 분석되었다. 연결정도 중심성은 교사(199.0), 수업(197.0), 학생(185.0), 학교(150.0) 순으로 나타났으며, 매개 중심성은 교사(30.859), 수업(18.956), 학생(16.054), 학교(15.745) 순으로 나타났다. 본 연구결과는 중등교사 임용시험 수험생인 예비교사, 해당 시험 출제 관리하는 기관과 관련자, 중등학교 예비교사 양성기관의 교수자와 행정가들에게 고려해볼 만한 자료가 되길 기대한다.

Construction of Cham Identity in Cambodia

  • Cham identities which are socially constructed and multilayered, display their markers in a variety of elements, including homeland attachment to the former Kingdom of Champa, religion, language and cultural traditions, to mention a few. However, unlike other contemporary diasporic experience which binds the homeland and the host country, the Cham diaspora in Cambodia has a unique pattern as it seems to have no voice in the political and economic spheres in Vietnam, its homeland. The relations between the Cham in Cambodia and Vietnam seem to be limited to cultural heritages such as Cham musical traditions, traditional clothing, and the architectural heritage. Many Cham people have established networks outside Cambodia with areas of the Muslim world, like Malaysia, Indonesia, southern Thailand and the Middle Eastern countries. Pursuing education or training in Islam as well as working in those countries, especially Malaysia has become a way for the Cham to widen their networks and increase their knowledge of particularly, Islam. Returning to Cambodia, these people become religious teachers or ustadz (Islamic teachers in the pondok [Islamic boarding school]). This has developed slowly, side by side with the formation of their identity as Cham Muslims. Among certain Cham, the absence of an ancient cultural heritage as an identity marker has been replaced by the Islamic culture as the important element of identity. However, being Cham is not a single identity, it is fluid and contested. Many scholars argue that the Cham in Cambodia constitute three groups: the Cham Chvea, Cham, and Cham Bani (Cham Jahed). The so-called Cham Jahed has a unique practice of Islam. Unlike other Cham who pray five times a day, Cham Jahed people pray, once a week, on Fridays. They also have a different ritual for the wedding ceremony which they regard as the authentic tradition of the Cham. Indeed, they consider themselves pure descendants of the Cham in Vietnam; retaining Cham traditions and tending to maintain their relationship with their fellow Cham in Central Vietnam. In terms of language, another marker of identity, the Cham and the Cham Jahed share the same language, but Cham Jahed preserve the written Cham script more often than the Cham. Besides, the Cham Jahed teaches the language to the young generation intensively. This paper, based on fieldwork in Cambodia in 2010 and 2011 will focus on the process of the formation of the Cham identity, especially of those called Cham and Cham Jahed.

Are Filipino Women in Korea Qualified English Teachers?

  • As the demand of English education is increasing, the demand for Native English speaking teachers (NEST) is rising, especially in Asian countries. However, due to the low number of NEST, the Korean government is suggesting that Filipino Women be used as English teachers as an alternative. This study aims to answer three questions: (1) are Filipino women in Korea qualified to teach English based on the error analysis of their written essays? (2) what are the linguistic features found in their diagnostic essays? and (3) is their written English better than Korean college students' written English based on the comparison of the two groups? The findings from the Filipino participants show the most frequently occurring errors are related to punctuation usage (commas and hyphens), vocabulary (word choice), verb usage, redundancy, and even as basic as capitalization usage. The results from the comparison of the two groups show that the percentage of the Filipino participants' written error was 14% while the percentage of the Korean participants was 17%. The findings would give us some ideas on the qualification of Filipino women in Korea as English teachers.

Utilizing debate techniques in English speaking class

  • This paper presents a case study of the effectiveness of debate class in promoting speaking skills of advanced learners. The researcher adopted English debate techniques in an English speaking class during four-week teacher training program and investigated how teachers responded to the new technique. Forty-five middle and high school teachers participated in the study and classroom observation, pre-survey, post-survey, and focus group interviews were used as the major research methods. The teacher pre-survey results presented that teachers prefer a conversation class where they can directly acquire proper sentence patterns and speaking strategies rather than spend time in performing communicative events. The results of the focus group interview and post-survey confirmed that a debate class can meet this specific teachers' needs. Most teachers responded positively to the debate classes since: 1) debate techniques are relatively new ideas to Korean teachers; 2) debate techniques require speed and accuracy in speech; thus teachers could learn to present their ideas logically and efficiently in a limited time through repeated argument exercises. The study result implies that debate technique can be an effective vehicle in an EFL context to promote advanced learners' logical thinking skills and logical English sentence structures.

Document Summarization via Convex-Concave Programming

  • Document summarization is an important task in various areas where the goal is to select a few the most descriptive sentences from a given document as a succinct summary. Even without training data of human labeled summaries, there has been several interesting existing work in the literature that yields reasonable performance. In this paper, within the same unsupervised learning setup, we propose a more principled learning framework for the document summarization task. Specifically we formulate an optimization problem that expresses the requirements of both faithful preservation of the document contents and the summary length constraint. We circumvent the difficult integer programming originating from binary sentence selection via continuous relaxation and the low entropy penalization. We also suggest an efficient convex-concave optimization solver algorithm that guarantees to improve the original objective at every iteration. For several document datasets, we demonstrate that the proposed learning algorithm significantly outperforms the existing approaches.

발음평가용 멀티미디어 시스템 구현을 위한 구어 프랑스어의 음향학적 단서 (Acoustic Cues in Spoken French for the Pronunciation Assessment Multimedia System)

  • The objective of this study is to examine acoustic cues in spoken French for the assessment of pronunciation which is necessary to realization of the multimedia system. The corpus is composed of simple expressions which consist of the French phonological system include all phonemes. This experiment was made on 4 male and female French native speakers and on 20 Korean speakers, university students who had learned the French language more than two years. We analyzed the recorded data by using spectrograph and measured comparative features by the numerical values. First of all, we found the mean and the deviation of all phonemes, and then chose features which had high error frequency and great differences between French and Korean pronunciations. The selected data were simplified and compared among them. After we judged whether the problems of pronunciation in each Korean speaker were either the utterance mistake or the interference of mother tongue, in terms of articulatory and auditory aspects, we tried to find acoustic features as simplified as possible. From this experiment, we could extract acoustic cues for the construction of the French pronunciation training system.

외식사업학과 교과과정 개발에 관한 연구 (The Development of Curriculum on Department of Food Service Business)

  • The purpose of this study was to develop the curriculum for the Department of Food Service Business in Junior College. The purpose of the curriculum development is to train professionals combined theory and practice for medium or small restaurant managers. We have developed a model curriculum, which was based on Job analyses for related business, analyses of the curricula of departments related with food service, and survey on the questionnaire. The subjects of the model curriculum are as follows. 1) Subjects related with Food and Food Sanitation, 2) Subjects related nth Cuisine, 3) Subjects related with Restaurant Management and Service, 4) Subjects related nth training In practical business, and 5) Subjects related with a foreign language. The effects on opening the Department of Food Service are as follows. 1) To train professionals (or food service business, 2) Activation of the study on Food Service Industry, 3) Establishment of the traditional food culture, 4) Activation of the Tourist Industry, and 5) To improve the Quality of restaurant employees.

심층적 의미 매칭을 이용한 cQA 시스템 질문 검색 (Question Retrieval using Deep Semantic Matching for Community Question Answering)

  • cQA(Community-based Question Answering) 시스템은 온라인 커뮤니티를 통해 사용자들이 질문을 남기고 답변을 작성할 수 있도록 만들어진 시스템이다. 신규 질문이 인입되면, 기존에 축적된 cQA 저장소에서 해당 질문과 가장 유사한 질문을 검색하고, 그 질문에 대한 답변을 신규 질문에 대한 답변으로 대체할 수 있다. 하지만, 키워드 매칭을 사용하는 전통적인 검색 방식으로는 문장에 내재된 의미들을 이용할 수 없다는 한계가 있다. 이를 극복하기 위해서는 의미적으로 동일한 문장들로 학습이 되어야 하지만, 이러한 데이터를 대량으로 확보하기에는 어려움이 있다. 본 논문에서는 질문이 제목과 내용으로 분리되어 있는 대량의 cQA 셋에서, 질문 제목과 내용을 의미 벡터 공간으로 사상하고 두 벡터의 상대적 거리가 가깝게 되도록 학습함으로써 의사(pseudo) 유사 의미의 성질을 내재화 하였다. 또한, 질문 제목과 내용의 의미 벡터 표현(representation)을 위하여, semi-training word embedding과 CNN(Convolutional Neural Network)을 이용한 딥러닝 기법을 제안하였다. 유사 질문 검색 실험 결과, 제안 모델을 이용한 검색이 키워드 매칭 기반 검색보다 좋은 성능을 보였다.

지식베이스 시스템과 형식 방법을 이용한 효과적인 인적자원 관리 (Effective Human Resource Management through knowledge based systems and formal methods)

  • Human Resource Management (HRM) performs numerous activities in organizations including employee recruitment, selection, placement, job analysis, training and development, and labor relations. POSCO (Pohang Steel Company) has concerned with employee management related to job placement and analysis among these activities because of the problems of over-complexity of placement precedures for the variety of recruits, the frequency of selection, a large amount of job descriptions / specifications, and their changes. This study, as a phase of developing the entire HRM systems in the organization, briefly summarizes the preliminary information related and describes an implementation of expert system as a means for effective job placement based on the principle of right-person-in-right-place with identifying aptitudes and personalities of employees. Thus, a new approach for developing a job description/specification using a formal specification language like Z is also proposed. The result of this study will cultivate the performance of personnel, prevent conflicts between labor and management, promote overall productivity of organization, as well as helpfully verify job analysis.
