This paper presents the results of research on hardware and software of the landmark tracking system to the positions of moving robot in real time. The landmark tracking system is composed of CCD camera, landmark, strobo system and image processing board. The algorithm calculates the position and direction by using the coordinate transformation fomula after calculating the centroid and rotation angle of landmark at fixed position using the image data. The experiment is performed with landmark tracking system is loaded on xyz-table. XYZ-table is used for identifying the true position in our experiment. The results shows that this system has high performance with maxima error of .+-.1 pixels.
A landmark tracking system(LTS) has been developed for use in locating objects in a manufacturing environment. The Landmark Tracking System is an integrated system which consists of a grey scale CCD camera, an image processor, an illumination system based on electronic flash, and software intended primarily for tracking retroreflective landmarks. The term "integreated" means that the camera electronics and the strobe electronics are directly linked to the computer system, governed by the same clock and under direct software control. A novel element in the LTS is that a pinhole is used for the optics.he optics.
This paper suggests the target tracking method improved for the collaboration of the quad rotor type UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) and omnidirectional Unmanned Ground Vehicle. If UAV shakes or UGV moves rapidly, the existing method generates a phenomenon that the tracking object loses the tracking target. To solve the problems, we propose an algorithm that can track continually when they lose the target. The proposed algorithm stores the vector of the landmark. And if the target was lost, the control signal was inputted so that the landmark could move continuously to the direction running out. Prior to the experiment, Proportional and integral control were used in 4 motors in order to calibrate the Heading value of the omnidirectional mobile robot. The landmark of UGV was recognized as the camera adhered to UAV and the target was traced through the proportional-integral-derivative control. Finally, the performance of the target tracking controller and proposed algorithm was evaluated through the experiment.
This paper proposes an efficient method to locate the automated guided vehicle (AGV) into a specific parking position using artificial visual landmark and vision-based algorithm. The landmark has comer features and a HSI color arrangement for robustness against illuminant variation. The landmark is attached to left of a parking spot under a crane. For parking, an AGV detects the landmark with CCD camera fixed to the AGV using Harris comer detector and matching descriptors of the comer features. After detecting the landmark, the AGV tracks the landmark using pyramidal Lucas-Kanade feature tracker and a refinement process. Then, the AGV decreases its speed and aligns its longitudinal position with the center of the landmark. The experiments showed the AGV parked accurately at the parking spot with small standard deviation of error under bright illumination and dark illumination.

In this paper, we address the challenging computer vision problem of obtaining a reliable facial expression analysis from a naturally interacting person. We propose a system that combines a 3D generic face model, 3D head tracking, and 2D tracker to track facial landmarks and recognize expressions. First, we extract facial landmarks from a neutral frontal face, and then we deform a 3D generic face to fit the input face. Next, we use our real-time 3D head tracking module to track a person's head in 3D and predict facial landmark positions in 2D using the projection from the updated 3D face model. Finally, we use tracked 2D landmarks to update the 3D landmarks. This integrated tracking loop enables efficient tracking of the non-rigid parts of a face in the presence of large 3D head motion. We conducted experiments for facial expression recognition using both framebased and sequence-based approaches. Our method provides a 75.9% recognition rate in 8 subjects with 7 key expressions. Our approach provides a considerable step forward toward new applications including human-computer interactions, behavioral science, robotics, and game applications.
The localization of the robot is one of the most important factors of navigating mobile robots. The use of featured information of landmarks is one approach to estimate the location of the robot. This approach can be classified into two categories: the natural-landmark-based and artificial-landmark-based approach. Natural landmarks are suitable for any environment, but they may not be sufficient for localization in the less featured or dynamic environment. On the other hand, artificial landmarks may generate shaded areas due to space constraints. In order to improve these disadvantages, this paper presents a novel development of the localization system by using artificial and natural-landmarks-based approach on a topological map. The proposed localization system can recognize far or near landmarks without any distortion by using landmark tracking system based on top-view image transform. The camera is rotated by distance of landmark. The experiment shows a result of performing position recognition without shading section by applying the proposed system with a small number of artificial landmarks in the mobile robot.
A novel method of dimensional measurement using machine vision, which is called Landmark Tracking System, has been developed. Its advantages come form tracking only the bright, standard shaped "landmarks" which are made from retroreflective sheets. In the design of the LTS, it is essential to know the relationship between optical parameters and their influence on system performance. Such optical parameters include the brightness of landmark image, the illumination system design, and the choice of imaging optics. And the performance of retroreflective material also plays important role in the LTS performances. Influences of such optical parameters on LTS's dimensional measurement characteristics are investigated, with respect to the retroreflective material, the imaging optics, and the illumination system. Measuremtn errors due to parameter variations are also analyzed. Experiments are performed with a LTS prototype. Retroreflective characteristics are verified, and the LTS's measurement performances are measured in the form of repeatability and accuracy. Experimental results shgow that the LTS has repeatability better than 1/30,000 of a field of view(30 degrees), and accuracy better tha 1/3,000 of a field fo view.d fo view.
