A method of calculating the natural frequency corresponding to the first mode of vibration of beams and tower structures, with irregular cross-sections and with arbitrary boundary conditions was developed and reported by D. H. Kim in 1974. This method has been developed for two-dimensional problems including the laminated composite plates and was proved to be very effective for the plates with arbitrary boundary conditions and irregular sections. In this paper, the result of application of this method to the building slabs with passive and active control devices is presented. Finite difference method is used to obtain the deflection influence surfaces needed for this vibration analysis in this paper. The influence of the modulus of the foundation on the natural frequency is thoroughly studied.

This paper introduces a new hybrid structural connection joint that combines shear walls with section steel beams, fundamentally resolving the construction complexity issue of requiring pre-embedded connectors in the connection between shear walls and steel beams. Initially, a quasi-static loading scheme with load-deformation dual control was employed to conduct low-cycle repeated loading experiments on five new connection joints. Data was acquired using displacement and strain gauges to compare the energy dissipation coefficients of each specimen. The destruction process of the new connection joints was meticulously observed and recorded, delineating it into three stages. Hysteresis curves and skeleton curves of the joint specimens were plotted based on experimental results, summarizing the energy dissipation performance of the joints. It's noteworthy that the addition of shear walls led to an approximate 17% increase in the energy dissipation coefficient. The energy dissipation coefficients of dog-bone-shaped connection joints with shear walls and cover plates reached 2.043 and 2.059, respectively, exhibiting the most comprehensive hysteresis curves. Additionally, the impact of laminated steel plates covering composite concrete floors on the stiffness of semi-rigid joint ends under excessive stretching should not be disregarded. A comparison with finite element analysis results yielded an error of merely 2.2%, offering substantial evidence for the wide-ranging application prospects of this innovative joint in seismic performance.

In this article, a mathematical model is developed to predict the dynamic behavior of bio-inspired composite beam with helicoidal orientation scheme under variable axial load using a unified higher order shear deformation beam theory. The geometrical kinematic relations of displacements are portrayed with higher parabolic shear deformation beam theory. Constitutive equation of composite beam is proposed based on plane stress problem. The variable axial load is distributed through the axial direction by constant, linear, and parabolic functions. The equations of motion and associated boundary conditions are derived in detail by Hamilton's principle. Using the differential quadrature method (DQM), the governing equations, which are integro-differential equations are discretized in spatial direction, then they are transformed into linear eigenvalue problems. The proposed model is verified with previous works available in literatures. Parametric analyses are developed to present the influence of axial load type, orthotropic ratio, slenderness ratio, lamination scheme, and boundary conditions on the natural frequencies of composite beam structures. The present enhanced model can be used especially in designing spacecrafts, naval, automotive, helicopter, the wind turbine, musical instruments, and civil structures subjected to the variable axial loads.
Lithium Fluoride (LiF; TLD-100) crystal chips are normally used as thermolu minescence dosimeters (abbreviated as NC-100) for estimating the absorbed dose to the skin of a patient or in a solid water phantom undergoing radiotherapy with megavoltage photon (6 and 15MV) beams. In general, investigation has revealed a reduction in the sensitivity of NC-100 chips after many runs through heating cycles. A TLD-100 chip laminated with gold plate (140${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$) on the upper surface layer of its face toward the photon beam (abbreviated as GC-100) has properties different from that of a NC-100 chip activated by incident photons and contaminant electrons with various lower energies coming from the gantry head and air. Activation of the valence band electrons of GC-100 chips by incident photons, positrons and electrons-which come from the gold plate by mainly pair production process and partly from Compton scattering-results in more enhanced signal intensity, higher response per monitor unit, as well as a good linearity with monitor units and independence of dose rate. Since the electron beams (6 and 15 MeV) do not have the probability of pair production process with gold plate, there is only a small difference (about a 3.3% increase for 15 MeV) in the signal gaps in the TL readout for electron beams between GC- and NC-100 chips. The 3.3% increase is entirely due to the buildup caused by the 140 m gold plate. The sensitivity of GC-100 chips is much more susceptible to high energy photon beams than electron one because of pair production. The interaction of high energy photon with a material of high atomic number, such as the good plate in this case, results in a considerably significant probability of pair production. The gold plate on the NC-100 chips acts as not only an intensifier of their signals but also acts as a filter of contaminant electrons in therapeutic high energy X-ray beams.

This paper utilizes computational asymptotic analysis to compute the boundary layer solution for composite beams and validates the findings through a comparison with ANSYS results. The boundary layer solution, presented as a sum of the interior solution and pure boundary layer effects, necessitates a mathematically rigorous formalization for both interior and boundary layer aspects. Computational asymptotic analysis emerges as a robust technique for addressing such problems. However, the challenge lies in connecting the boundary layer and interior solutions. In this study, we systematically separate the principles of virtual work and the principles of Saint-Venant to tackle internal and boundary layer issues. The boundary layer solution is articulated by calculating the Papkovich-Fadle eigenfunctions, representing them as linear combinations of real and imaginary vectors. To address warping functions in the interior solutions, we employed a least squares method. The computed solutions exhibit excellent agreement with 2D finite element analysis results, both quantitatively and qualitatively. This validates the effectiveness and accuracy of the proposed approach in capturing the behavior of composite beams.

This paper deals with the study of buckling, vibration, and parametric instability characteristics in a damaged cross-ply and angle-ply laminated plate like beam under in-plane harmonic loading, using the finite element approach. Damage is modelled using an anisotropic damage formulation, based on the concept of reduction in stiffness. The effect of damage on free vibration and buckling characteristics of a thin plate like beam has been studied. It has been observed that damage shows a strong orthogonality and in general deteriorates the static and dynamic characteristics. For the harmonic type of loading, analysis was carried out on a thin plate like beam by solving the governing differential equation which is of Mathieu-Hill type, using the method of multiple scales (MMS). The effects of damage and its location on dynamic stability characteristics have been presented. The results indicate that, compared to the undamaged plate like beam, heavily damaged beams show steeper deviations in simple and combination resonance characteristics.

The stitching process has been widely utilized for the improvement of through-thickness property of the conventional laminated composites. This paper rep0l1s the effects of stitching on the flexural and interlaminar shear properties of multiaxial warp knitted composites in order to examine the performance improvements. Considered parameters are as follows: the stacking regularity of the multiaxial warp knits, the stitch spacings, the stitching types, the stitching location, and the location of compression fixture nose. These parameters have little effect on the flexural and interlaminar shear properties, except for the case of stitching location. Stitching on the $0^{\circ}$ fibers showed the lowest flexural strength and modulus ($12\%$reduction for both properties). The stitch spacing of 5mm resulted 8% reduction in interlaminar strength compared with 10mm spacing.
A modeling method for the modal analysis of a rotating composite beam is presented in this paper. Linear differential equations of motion are derived by using the assumed mode method. For the modeling, hybrid deformation variables are employed and approximated to derive the equations of motion Symmetrical laminated layers are considered for the composite beam. The effects of the dimensionless angular velocity, the hub radius and the fiber orientation angle parameter on the variations of modal characteristics are investigated.
A method of calculating the natural frequency corresponding to the first mode of vibration of beams and tower structures with irregular cross-sections and with arbitrary boundary conditions was developed and reported by D. H. Kim in 1974. In order to obtain the natural frequency by the presented method, the first step to take is to obtain the deflection influence surfaces. In design and analysis of any structure, the first step to be taken is to obtain this deflection influence surfaces. Any method can be used for this purpose. Then using this surfaces, deflections, slopes, moments, shears, and natural frequencies can be obtained by differentiating either the continuous function or discrete function defined at certain points. The merit of the presented method is that the natural frequency can be obtained by the deflection influence surfaces obtaining which is the first step in structural analysis.
