Purpose: This study was performed to investigate the effect of plasma lactate clearance as predictive factor of major burn patients. Methods: A retrospective review was performed on 119 patients from January 2014 to December 2018, who were admitted as severe burn patients to ICU unit. Plasma lactate was measured upon admission to the hospital and 24hrs after admission. And, hospital day, ICU day, TBSA (Total Body Surface Area) and numbers of surgical intervention were collected after admission. Results: Higher lactate clearance showed negative statistical correlation with survival, hospital day, ICU day & number of surgical interventions. Conclusion: In this study, 24hr lactate clearance might be used as predictor of clinical prognosis following major burn injury.
The objective of this experiment is to study the possibility of lactate dehydrogenase(LDH) enzyme to prevent lactate accumulation in the rumen, For understanding capacity of bacterial LDH in rumen environments, this study was conducted to explore the effects of temperature, pH, VFAs and metal ions on Lactobacillus sp. FFy111-1's LDH activity, and the LDH activation in rumen fluid accumulated lactate. The optimum pH and temperature of LDH were pH 7.5 and 40$^{\circ}C$, respectively. The LDH activity had a good thennostability at range from 30 to 50$^{\circ}C$. The highest pH stability of the enzyme was at ranges from pH 7.0 to 8.0 and the enzyme activities showed above 64% level of non-treated one at pH 6.0 and 6.5. The LDH was inactivated by VFAs treatments but was enhanced by metal ion treatments without NaCl and $CuSO_4$ Especially, the LDH activity was increased to 127% and 124% of its original activity by 2 mM of $BaCl_2$ and $MnSO_4$, addition, respectively. When the acidic rumen fluid was treated by LDH enzyme of Lactobacillus sp. FFy111-1, the lactate concentration in the rumen fluid was lower compared with non-treated rumen fluid(P<0.05). This lactate reduction was resulted from an action of LDH. It was proved by result of purified D,L-LDH addition that showed the lowest lactate concentration among the treatments(P<0.05). Although further investigation of microbial LDH and ruminal lactate is needed, these findings suggest that the bacterial LDH has the potential capability to decrease the lactate accumulated in an acidic rumen fluid. Also, screening of super LDH producing bacteria and technical development for improving enzyme activity in rumen environment are essential keys for practical application.
In this work the optical fiber glucose and lactate biosensors were developed by using fluorescent dye and enzyme immobilized on the end tip of an optical fiber. 3-Glycidyloxypropyl)methyldiethoxysilane (GPTMS), (3-Aminopropyl) trimethoxysilane (APTMS) and Methyltrimethoxysilane (MTMS) were used to immobilize glucose oxidase (GOD), lactate oxidase (LOD) and ruthenium(II) complex (tris(4,7-diphenyl-1,10-phenanthroline) ruthenium(II), $Ru(dpp)_3^{2+}$) as oxygen sensitive fluorescent dye. MTMS sol-gel was an excellent supporting material for the immobilization of $Ru(dpp)_3^{2+}$, GOD, and LOD on the optical fiber. Storage stability of the optical fiber glucose sensor was kept constant over 20 days, while the optical fiber lactate sensor had constant storage stability over 17 days. The optical fiber glucose and lactate biosensors also maintained good operational stability for 20 hours and 14 hours, respectively. The activities of the immobilized enzymes were most excellent at pH 7 and at $25^{\circ}C$. On-line monitoring of glucose and lactate in a simulated process was performed with the optical fiber glucose and lactate biosensors. On-line monitoring results were agreed with those of off-line data measured with high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC).
This studies were conducted to investigate the effects of calcium lactate and calcium acetate on the duality and shelf-life of kimchi. Kimchi was prepared by adding 0.5% mixtures of calcium lactate and calcium acetate at ratios of 04:0, 0.4:0.1, 0.3:0.2. 0.2:0.3, 0.1:0.4, 0:0.5, and fermented at 10$^{\circ}C$. The shelf-life of the kimchi by adding the mixtures of calcium lactate and calcium acetate at the ratio of 0.4:0.1, 0.3:0.2, 0.2:0.1 can be extended approximately 5 days. And, calcium contents of the kimchi tissue increased 46 to 66% against the control products. And also, demage of parenchyma cell was lower, the scores of crispness and overall taste of the kimchi treated were higher than those of the control.
Recent research indicates that lactate promotes the switching of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) to a synthetic phenotype, which has been implicated in various vascular diseases. This study aimed to investigate the effects of lactate on the VSMC phenotype switch and the underlying mechanism. The CCK-8 method was used to assess cell viability. The microRNAs and mRNAs levels were evaluated using quantitative PCR. Targets of microRNA were predicted using online tools and confirmed using a luciferase reporter assay. We found that lactate promoted the switch of VSMCs to a synthetic phenotype, as evidenced by an increase in VSMC proliferation, mitochondrial activity, migration, and synthesis but a decrease in VSMC apoptosis. Lactate inhibited miR-23b expression in VSMCs, and miR-23b inhibited VSMC's switch to the synthetic phenotype. Lactate modulated the VSMC phenotype through downregulation of miR-23b expression, suggesting that overexpression of miR-23b using a miR-23b mimic attenuated the effects of lactate on VSMC phenotype modulation. Moreover, we discovered that SMAD family member 3 (SMAD3) was the target of miR-23b in regulating VSMC phenotype. Further findings suggested that lactate promotes VSMC switch to synthetic phenotype by targeting SMAD3 and downregulating miR-23b. These findings suggest that correcting the dysregulation of miR-23b/SMAD3 or lactate metabolism is a potential treatment for vascular diseases.

In the present study, the drowning-out crystallization of L(+)-calcium lactate was investigated in order to develop the crystallization separation process. The crystallization of the calcium lactate was induced by injecting the alcoholic anti-solvent into the aqueous solution of calcium lactate and the control of the calcium lactate crystal size during the crystallization was primarily investigated under the consideration of the anti-solvent species, anti-solvent composition and agitation speed as the key operating factors. Alcohols of methanol, ethanol, n-propanol and i-propanol were used as the anti-solvent for the drowning-out crystallization. Prior to the crystallization experiment, the solubility of calcium lactate in the water-alcohol mixture was measured along with the variation of the alcohol species and composition, which was necessary to estimate the supersaturation level of the crystallization. By the drowning-out crystallization, the calcium lactate crystals of the fabric shape were obtained. Using the ethanol as the antisolvent, the fabric crystals close to the needle shape were produced. However, the hairy crystals were obtained by using the propanol as the anti-solvent. Due to such morphological features, the crystals was highly apt to form the aggregates. The aggregation of the crystals was intensified as increasing the alcohol fraction in the water-alcohol mixture. Meanwhile, the agitation caused the breakage of crystals, resulting in the decrease of the crystal size. Therefore, the crystal size in the crystallization was predominantly determined by the competition between the crystal aggregation and breakage.
Metal dispersed carbon paste electrodes were fabricated, and their electrochemical properties were investigated. Among various metal dispersed carbons, platinum-dispersed carbon paste electrode showed most efficient electrocatalytic characteristics. The overpotential for the oxidation of NADH was significantly lowered in the platinum-dispersed carbon paste electrode, and catalytic current was also enhanced. Based on these electrocatalytic observations, L-lactate biosensor using L-lactate dehydrogenase was constructed to evaluate its performance in terms of sensitivity and stability.
Production of calcium lactate very useful for medical supplies of Ca-therapy was obtained by lactic acid fermentation of lactobacillus sporogenes, a spore forming lactic acid bacterium. Corn steep liquor 1%, soybean enzyme hydrolysate 3%, yeast extract powder 2% can substitute for yeast extract and peptone as nutrient sort traces in fermentation medium using 10% glucose concentration. In the calcium lactate production medium containing yeast extract powder 2%, glucose 18%, CaCO3 12%, the lactic acid fermentation was carried out at 45$^{\circ}C$ for 4days with continuous agitation of 100 rpm. As results, fermentation yield was 97.5%. The five steps such as protein coagulation, decolorizing evaporating, crystallizing, and drying were carried out to harvest calcium lactate from 10l of supernatant of fermented medium to be removed cell and CaCO3. As results, 2065.0g of white crystal calcium lactate dihyrate was recovered and a yield of 84.9% was obtained.

Many kinds of soluble calcium salts such as calcium lactate are known to reduce the enamel demineralization. In this study, calcium lactate was tested for its effect on the demineralization process of hydroxyapatite. Synthetic hydroxyapatites were used as a standardized material instead of human enamel which is rarely heterogenous. And, for the purpose of hydroxyapatite demineralization, lactic acid was used. By comparing the weight of hydroxyapatite pre-demineralization and post-demineralization, it was possible to examine the effect of calcium lactate on demineralization. The weight of demineralized hydroxyapatite was reduced by about 46% and 59% with 20mM and 40mM calcium lactate, respectively. In conclusion, low concentrations of calcium lactate showed an inhibitory effect on the demineralization of synthetic hydroxyapatite.
This study was performed to explore the frequency of panic attack induced by sodium lactate in alcohol dependence patients and to compare the extent of blunted growth hormone reponses after clonidine infusion with that of normal controls. The authors investigated 10 alcohol dependence patients receiving inpatient care in Hangang Sacred Heart Hospital from March 2, 1993 to August 31, 1993 and 10 normal controls. The disagnosis of alcohol dependence was based on DSM-III-R. Thirty minutes after the sodium lactate infusions clonidins were administrated. Venous bloods were sampled before the sodium lactate infusions, and 30, 45, 60, 90 minutes after the administrations of clonidine. Plasma growth hormone levels were measured by RIA method. The results were as follows : 1) In the questionaires of Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale, Hamilton Depression Raing Scale, CAGE, Korean MAST, the scores of alcohol dependent patients were higher than those of normal controls. 2) Sixty percent of alcohol dependence patients and twenty percent of normal controls had panic attacks induced by sodium lactate. 3) All panic attacks induced by sodium lactate were relieved after clonidine infusions. 4) There were blunted growth hormone responses after clonidine infusions in alcohol dependence patients who had sodium lactate induced panic attacks like panic disorder patients. These results suggest that alcohol dependence patients may have noradrenergic abnormality same as panic disorder patients and two disorder may have high biological correlations each other.
