The L-Valinate anion coordinating zinc complex, [$Zn(val)_2(H-2O)$], was isolated and structurally characterized by single crystal X-ray crystallography. The crystal possess orthorhombic symmetry with a space group $P2_12_12_1$, Z = 4, and a = 7.4279(2)$\AA$, b = 9.4342(2)$\AA$, c =20.5862(7)$\AA$ respectively. The compound features a penta-coordinate zinc ion in which the two valine anion molecules are directly coordinating the central zinc metal ion via their N (amine) and O (carboxylate) atoms, and an additional coordination to zinc is made by water molecule (solvent) to form a distorted square pyramidal structure. In addition, further synthesis of the valine capped ZnS:Mn nanocrystal from the reaction of [$Zn(val)_2(H-2O)$] precursor with $Na_2S$ and 1.95 weight % of $Mn^{2+}$ dopant is described. Obtained valine capped nanocrystal was water dispersible and was optically characterized by UV-vis and solution PL spectroscopy. The solution PL spectrum for the valine capped ZnS:Mn nanocrystal showed an excitation peak at 280 nm and a very narrow emission peak at 558 nm respectively. The measured and calculated PL efficiency of the nanocrystal in water was 15.8%. The obtained powders were characterized by XRD, HR-TEM, and EDXS analyses. The particle size of the nanocrystal was also measured via a TEM image. The measured average particle size was 3.3 nm.
A development of micropores of $CO_2$activated isotropic carbon fibers from TEM was observed. It was observed that the micropores of activated carbon fibers(ACFs) were consisted of slit-shaped pores(SP) and cylinder-shaped pores(CP). The SPs were formed between two parallel-carbon layers, and the CPs were formed at a place which is connected polygonally by more than two carbon layers. It was shown that the CPs of the ACFs were developed at high degree of burn-offs and at high activation temperature. The pore size distribution of the best ACF, which was observed at a highest value of specific surface area(3,495 $\m^2$/g), showed a continuous distribution in the range of about $4∼l5\AA$, and the median pore size was 6.7$\AA$. The super-high specific surface area of ACFs was found to be due to that the SPs were connected with a maximum size of 7∼8$\AA$ continuously, It is possible that the SPs should be formed in the ACFs in order to show super-high SSA.
A lipase of Staphylococcus aureus B56 was purified from a culture supernatant and its molecular weight was estimated to be 45 kDa by SDS-PAGE. The optimum temperature and pH for the hydrolysis of olive oil was $42^{\circ}C$ and pH 8-8.5, respectively. The enzyme was stable up to $55^{\circ}C$ in the presence of $Ca^++$ at pHs 5-11. The lipase gene was cloned using the PCR amplification method. The sequence analysis showed an open reading frame of 2,076 bp, which encoded a preproenzyme of 691 amino acids. The preproenzyme was composed of a signal sequence (37 aa), propeptide (255 aa), and mature enzyme (399 aa). Based on a sequence comparison, lipase B56 constituted of a separate subgroup among the staphylococcal lipase groups, such as S. aureus PS54 and S. haemolyticus L62 lipases, and was distinct from other lipases in their optimum pH and substrate specificity.

8$\times$8 bit scaled SONOSFET NAND type flash EEPROM that shows better characteristics on cell density and endurance than NOR type have been designed and its electrical characteristics are verified with computer aided simulation. For the simulation, the spice model parameter was extracted from the sealed down SONOSFET that was fabricated by $1.5mutextrm{m}$ topological design rule. To improve the endurance of the device, the EEPROM design to have modified Fowler-Nordheim tunneling through the whole channel area in Write/Erase operation. As a result, it operates Write/Erase operation at low current, and has been proven Its good endurance. The NAND type flash EEPROM, which has upper limit of V$_{th}$, has the upper limit of V$_{th}$ as 4.5V. It is better than that of floating gate as 4V. And a EEPROM using the SONOSFET without scaling (65$\AA$-l65$\AA$-35$\AA$), was also designed and its characteristics have been compared. It has more possibliity of error from the V$_{th}$ upper limit as 4V, and takes more time for Read operation due to low current. As a consequence, it is proven that scaled down SONOSFET is more pertinent than existing floating gate or SONOSFET without scaling for the NAND type flash EEPROM.EPROM.
The methylation response as well as the level of methyl donor substance, 5-adenosyl-L-methionine (SAM) has been suggested to be related to hepatotoxicity including hepatocarcinogenesis. But direct correlation between protein methylation and hepatotoxicity has not been established to the present. To observe relationship between protein methylation and short-term hepatotoxicity induced by chemical substances, the activities of protein methylase I and II (PM I, PM II) were examined in cytosolic fraction of SD rat treated orally with acetaminophen(AA), $\alpha$-naphtyl-isothiocyanate (ANIT) and tetracycline (TC) that was known to produce necrosis, cholestasis and steatosis respectively. To evaluate the degree of hepatotoxicity induced by each chemicals, we observed the serum levels of indicative parameters and histopathological alteration. In AA treated group, the activities of PM I were increased at 6, 12 hours after administration, prior to the appearance of the hepatotoxicity by clinical parameters. It was suggested that the levels of PM I were related with the initial stage of hepatotoxic mechanism induced by AA. In ANIT treated group, though most of clinical parameters were significantly increased at 24, 48 hours after administration, the activity of PM I was not changed, indicating that ANIT induced hepatotoxicity was not coupled to protein methylation.

The thin films of high pemitivity in ferroelectric materials using a capacitor are applied to DRAMs and FRAMs. (Ba, Sr)$TiO_3$ thin films as ferroelectric materials were prepared by the sol-gel method and made by spin-coating on the Pt/Ti/$SiO_2/Si$ substrate at 4,000 [rpm] for 10 seconds. The devices of BST thin films to composite $(Ba_{0.7},Sr_{0.3})TiO_3$ were fabricated by changing of the depositing layer number on $Pt/Ti/SiO_2/Si$ substrate. The thin film capacitor to be ferroelectric devices was investigated by structural and electrical properties. The thickness of BST thin films at each coating numbers 3, 4 and 5 times was $2500[\AA]$, $3500[\AA]$, $3800[\AA]$. The dielectric factor of thin film when the coating numbers were 3, 4 and 5 times was 190, 400 and 460 on frequency l[MHz]. The dielectric loss of BST thin film was linearly increased by increasing of the specimen area.
Kinetic Monte Carlo (KMC) and graph searches show that proton conduction limiting barriers and trajectories in $BaZr_{0.875}Y_{0.125}O_3$ are affected by the presence of other protons. At 1000 K, KMC limiting conduction barriers increase from 0.39 eV to 0.45 eV as the proton number is increased. The proton-proton radial distribution begins to rise at $2{\AA}$ and peaks at $4{\AA}$, which is half the distance expected, based on the proton concentration. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations find proton/proton distances of 2.60 and $2.16{\AA}$ in the lowest energy two-proton configurations. A simple average of the limiting barriers for 7-10 step periodic long range paths found via graph theory at 1100 K shows an increase in activation barrier from 0.32 eV to 0.37 eV when a proton is added. Both KMC and graph theory show that protons can affect each other's pathways and raise the overall conduction barriers.

The characteristics of the Si-SiO$_2$ interface and the degradation in the short channel(L${\times}$W=1.7$\mu\textrm{m}$${\times}$15$\mu\textrm{m}$) SONOSFET nonvolatile memory devices, fabricated on the basis of the existing n-well CMOS processing technology for 1 Mbit DRAM with the 1.2$\mu\textrm{m}$ m design rule, were investigated using the charge pumping method. The SONOSFET memories have the tripple insulated-gate consisting of 30${\AA}$ tunneling oxide 205${\AA}$ nitride and 65${\AA}$ blocking oxide, The acceleration method which square voltage pulses of t$\_$p/=10msec, Vw=+19V and V$\_$E/=-22V continue to be alternatly applied to gale, was used to investigate the degradation of SONOSFET memories with the write/erase cycle. The degradation characteristics were ascertained by observing the change in the energy and spatial distributions of the interface trap density.

The cerium ion intercalated aluminosilicate was prepared by ion exchange reaction between $Na^+$ in montmorillonite and $Ce^{+4}$ in aqueous solution. The X-ray absorption near edge structrure(XANES) analyses indicate that the $Ce^{+4}$ ions are partially reduced to the $Ce^{+3}$ ones during the intercalation into layered aluminosilicate due to a charge transfer between host and intercalant. From the EXAFS analysis, two different (Ce-O) bonding pairs could be characterized with the distances and coordination numbers of 2.31 $({\pm}0.02){\AA}$${\times}$ 8.2 $({\pm}1.5)$ and 2.66 $({\pm}0.02){\AA}$${\times}$ 2.7 $({\pm}1.0)$, respectively, with the oxygen atoms as the first nearest neighbor, and two (Ce-Ce) pairs at 3.78 ${\AA}$ as the second neighbor. It is therefore concluded that the most probable Ce-species stabilized in the interlayer space of aluminosilicate after the intercalation is the tetrameric Ce-polyoxy/hydorxy cations with the mixed valent state of 0.75 $Ce^{+4}$.0.25 $Ce^{+3}$.
A species, Chanos chanos (Forssk$\aa$l), collected in Puan, Chollabuk-do on August 1994, of family Chanidae belonging to order Gonorhynchiformes was studied for the first time in Korea. C. chanos was characterized by the form of dorsal and caudal fin and the shape of mouth. A new Korean name "Gaednongeo" is proposed for the C. chanos.
