Effects of Ego integrity on QoL of Elderly Living Alone: Focused on Moderating Role of SF36 Health Factors (독거노인의 자아통합감이 삶의 질에 미치는 영향: 주관적 건강요인별 조절효과를 중심으로)

  • In this study, we investigated the effects of ego integrity on QoL(Quality of Life) of elderly living alone, where we focused on moderating role of SF36 health factors. To investigate the cause and effect of factors, we purposively collected 282 samples from senior welfare centers in Jeonju city and exploited reliability analysis, confirmatory factor analysis and SEM(Structural Equation Modeling) for 265 cases excluding some cases with missing values. As the results, first, we confirmed ego integrity was positive predictor of QoL. Second, it was proven that the effect of ego integrity on QoL of elderly living alone was stronger in the lower physical functioning group than higher physical functioning group. Third, we also verified that the group with more difficulties in activities or work as a result of poor physical health showed higher effect of ego integrity on QoL. Based on the results, we could explain the reason of conflicts regarding how elderly's health influenced on ego integrity. Also, in the practice of intervention to elderly's problem, we found the health factors could be an indicator of direction or effect of the intervention

Converged Factors Influencing Ego Integrity of Community Dwelling Elderly (지역사회 노인의 자아통합감에 영향을 미치는 요인)

  • This study was conducted to analyze the Ego Integrity, Subjective Pain, Subjective Health, Subjective Happiness and Social Support level of Community Dwelling elderly, and to analyze the variables that impact their Ego Integrity. Methods: A total of 250 elderly aged 60 years or above visiting a Senior Welfare Center in j city and j group of Jeonbuk were selected as subjects of this study for collection and analysis of data. Data were collected from January 8 to February 26, 2008 from 250 community-dwelling elders in Korea and subjected to descriptive analysis, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's Correlation Coefficient, and multiple regression analysis. Results: only economic strength was influenced by general characteristics. Additionally, Subjective Pain, Subjective Health, and Subjective Happiness and Social Support l were found to have a statistically positive correlation with Ego Integrity. Finally, the most influential variables on the elderly Ego Integrity were Social Support (${\beta}=.194$, p=.002), followed by Subjective Health (${\beta}=.149$, p=.040) and four variables explaining 10.8% of the elderly Ego Integrity. Conclusion: it is necessary to develop specific intervention programs to improve Social Support and Subjective Health among Community Dwelling elderly to make it possible to enable Ego Integrity.

The Process of Forming Ego and the Impact of Others on the Teaching Careers of Students Majoring in Science Education: A Lacanian Psychoanalytic Inquiry (사범대학 과학교육전공 재학생들의 교직에 대한 자아형성 과정과 타자의 영향 -Lacan의 정신분석학적 탐구-)

  • This study employs Lacan's psychoanalytic approach to reinterpret the images of others and teachers that influence the process of self-formation within the teaching profession as students enter a university of education Seventy-four first- and second-year students majoring in science education at the College of Education from three regions across the country participated in this study, which was conducted using Lacan's L schematic as a representative theoretical framework. Through qualitative analysis and a word cloud analysis, it was confirmed that the students developed perceptions of the teaching profession based on somewhat fictitious and unrealistic teacher images, while others actively intervened in the process of career decision-making. In addition, although parents or teachers mainly occupied the realm of the Other, it was found that they failed to appropriately fulfill the role of the Other, in that they should have corrected the fictional image of teachers. Accordingly, it is necessary to recognize the limitations of ego-psychological career education that can deepen fixations on distorted self-images and, therefore, seek a new career education and counseling model through a psychoanalytic approach.

Characterization of Bone Marrow Cell Proliferating Arabinogalactan through Peyer`s Patch Cells from Rhizomes of Atractylodes lancea DC

  • Bone marrow cell proliferating arabinogalactan-like polysaccharide (ALR-3IIa-1-1) has been purified from rhizomes of Atractylodes lancea DC. In order to characterize the essential structure of ALR-3IIa-1-1 for expression of the activity, sequential enzymatic digestion using ego-$\alpha$-L-arabinofurasidase (AFase) and ego-$\beta$-D-(1longrightarrow3)-galactanase (GNase) was employed. After ALR-3IIa-1-1 was digested with the AFase, the GNase digestion cleaved only 10% and 23% of 3-linked and 3,6-branched galactose, respectively, from arabinose-trimmed ALR-3IIa-1-1 (AT-ALR-3IIa-1-1), and gave small amounts of intermediate size (AT-G-2) and shorter oligosaccharides (AT-G-3) fractions in addition to a large amount of the GNase resistant fraction (AT-G-1). When AT-G-1 was redigested gradually with the AFase and GNase, it released trace amounts of oligosaccharides in addition to a large amount of the resistant fraction. When the final enzyme-resistant fraction from AT-G-1 was digested simultaneously with both AFase and GNase, the resistant fraction was significantly degraded into two long fragments (3AT-3G-1 and 2). The mixture of digestion products from the first GNase digestion of AT-ALR-3IIa-1-1 showed a significantly decreased bone marrow cell proliferation activity to about 30% of the activity of ALR-3IIa-1-1, but the GNase resistant fraction (AT-7-1) still had significant activity. Although the second gradual enzymatic digestion of AT-G-1 showed a marginal decrease in activity, the resulting fragments (3AT-3G-1 and 2) by the final simultaneous enzymatic digestion lost most of the activity. Component sugar, methylation and FAB-MS analyses indicated that the digestion products (AT-G-21 AT-G-31 2AT-2G-2 and 2AT-2G-3) released from AT-ALR-3IIa-1-1 by the sequential enzymatic digestion contained galactose-containing oligosaccharides mainly comprising 6-linked galactose, that some of which were partially arabinosylated, and these oligosaccharides were attached to $\beta$-D-(1longrightarrow3)-galactan backbone in its non-reducing terminal side as side chains.

Action Patterns of Chitinase and Separations of Chitooligosaccharides Produced by Chitinolytic Hydrolysis (키티나제에 의한 키토올리고당의 생성활성 규명과 올리고당의 당별 분리 생산)

  • N-acetyl-D-glucosamine oligosaccharides [(GlcNAc)n] whose degree of polymer-ization is from one to ten (n=1-10) were fractionated by column chromatography on CM-Sephadex. Electro dialysis from a partially deacetylated chitosan hydrolysate prepared crudely with the N-acetyl-D-glucosaminidase(chitinase) and exo-N, N'-diacetylchito-biohydrolase(chitobiase) of Serratia marcescens QM B1466. Reducing sugar compositions and sequences of the N-acetyl-glucosamine oligosaccharides were identified by N-acetylation, randomly cleavage with chitinase and ego-splitting with chitobiase. N-acetyl-glucosamine heterochitooligosaccharides with glucosamine oligosaccharides, (GlcN)n at the reducing end residues together with $(GlcN)_1\sim(GlcN)_4$ were detected. Separation was accomplished by prefractionation with election by 0 to 1.0 M NaCl gradient solution. $(GlcNAc)_1 =4.25%,\; (GlcNAc)_2=4.49%,; (GlcNAc)_3=11.1%,\; (GlcNAc)_4=2.5%,$$ $(GlcNAc)_{5}$=0.64%, $(GlcNAc)_{6}$=2.12% and $(GlcNAc)_{7}$=1.21%, respectively, were crystallized after electrodialysis and lyophilization Each N-acetyl-D-glucosamine oligosaccharides content were detected by HPLC.

A Case Report on Panic Disorder Patient Using the 'MRM (Mentalizing the Rooms of Mind)' and Korean Medicine Therapy (한의치료와 '마음의 방 그리기'를 활용한 공황장애 치험 1례 보고)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to introduce the progress of treatment and improve clinical use after conducting Mentalizing the Rooms of Mind, the main technique of Mindfulness & Loving Beingness psychotherapy, for a patient with panic disorder. Methods: We conducted a Mentalizing the Rooms of Mind for 10 sessions on an age 23 female diagnosed with panic disorder based on the DSM-5 diagnostic criteria. After receiving consent from the subject, through chart review, the progress of treatment was observed focusing on the MMPI-2 and CSEI-s (The Core Seven Emotions Inventory-short form) conducted pre- and post-treatment. This study was approved by the Institutional Review Board of Wonkwang University Sanbon Hospital (WMCSB202007-55). Results: 1. The MMPI-2 clinical scales of an age 23 female with panic disorder showed a 7 (Pt)-1 (Hs)-3 (Hy) profile pre-treatment, but for post-treatment, the scale showed 1 (Hs)-3 (Hy) profile, and the 7 (Pt) scale showed significant decline. In the MMPI-2 reconstructed clinical scales, RC7 (Dysfunctional Negative Emotions) and RC8 (Aberrant Experiences) showed significant decline. 2. In the pre- and post-treatment MMPI-2 content scales, Anxiety, Fears, Obsessiveness, Social Discomfort, and Work Interference scores decreased, showing overall positive stability. On the MMPI-2 supplementary scales, the Anxiety and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder scores decreased, and the Ego Strength increased, resulting in improved overall psychological adaptation. 3. Pre- and post-treatment of an age 23 female with panic disorder, CSEI-s showed significant decline of 恐, 驚, 悲, and 思. So it seems that the emotions caused by Chiljeongsang (七情傷) were more stable than before treatment. Conclusions: As shown above, the treatment of panic disorder through Mentalizing the Rooms of Mind, a major technique of Mindfulness & Loving Beingness psychotherapy, showed positive changes in MMPI-2 as well as improvement of the subjective symptoms. Thus, Mentalizing the Rooms of Mind has high clinical use, and it seems that it is necessary to create a manual for this in the future.

  • This Paper aims to elaborate on the origin of thinking mind. And this is a cooperative project between philosophy and neuroscience and brain science. I have written this paper in admiration for the achievements of twentieth century neuroscience and brain science, and out of desire to assist the subject in future. Much of the history of modern philosophy, from Descartes and Kant forward, consists of failed models of brain. As Edward O. Wilson precisely said, the shortcoming is not the fault of the philosophers, who have doggedly pushed their methods to the limit, but a straightforward consequence of the biological evolution of the brain. Guiding that investigation down pathways that will illuminate brain research is a task of neuroscience and brain science. Investigating logical relations among concepts is a philosophical task. If we are to understand the neural structures and dynamics that make perception, thought, intentional behaviour possible, clarity about these concepts and categories and their relations is essential. Hence our joint venture of philosophy and science. Sure, it is human beings that perceives, not parts of its brain. And it is human beings that who think and reason, not their brain. But the brain and its activities make it possible for human beings-not for it-to perceive and think, to feel emotions, and to form and pursue projects. Thus We try to investigate and reveal the origin of thinking mind as follow: 1) The difference between chimpanzee and human beings 2) brain and mind 3) the origin of thinking 4) the wisdom of nature.
