  • Korean species of the genus Euodynerus Dalla Torre were taxonomically reviewed. Four species were confirmed: E. trilobus, E. dantici violaceipennis, E. nipanicus nipanicus, and E. quadrifasciatus atripes. The specimens previously identified as E. dantici brachyotomus and E. notatus pubescence form North Korea were re-examined, and corrected to E. dantici violaceipennis and E. nipanicus nipanicus, respectively. Euodynerus quadrifasciatus atripes was re-described for future researchers. After careful reading previous descriptions, Euodynerus seuli Radoszkowski was tentatively supposed to be conspecific with E. nipanicus.

  • Engineering geological studies were conducted for igneous rocks in southeast Korean peninsula. The purpose of the study is to establish zoning in view of engineering geology in ground construction. For engineering geological implication, lithology, lineament structure and discontinuities were surveyed and analysed. Using constructed data, We compared geological and engineering geological characteristics and made out the detailed engineering geological map. The map responses engineering characteristics such as weathering degrees, discontinuity systems of different rock types.

  • Soysauce that has a long history, is a traditional food in the Orient area, and is supporesed the region of origination was northern of Korean peninsula or southern of Manchuria. After ward, it is convinced that spreaded to China continent, Korean peninsula md Japan. I have published a book named "Jang it′s History Culture and Industry" in 1999. in which illustrated the history of soysauce, but I cannot explain the details of history of Japanese soysauce because of deficiency of the data, so I hope a complement. Let me report a translation of KAWATA′s study, in here

  • The improvement of the situation on the Korean Peninsula, following the June 2000 Summit, has opened up the possibility of reconstructing the railway between the North and the South. The interconnection of the railway systems would allow cargo transportation from the south of the Korean Peninsula to Russia, China and Europe. This could open up a faster and more economical cargo transportation route than the all-water route.(omitted)

  • Traditional foods of Che Ju Do, an island located on south sea of Korean peninsula, were composed of moutaineous and coastal food. According to the review of historical records and evidences, ancestors of Che Ju Do island had consumed starchy root or marine food such as arrow root, bracken root, kelp, crab and so on. There are more than 500 kinds of traditional foods in Che Ju island, but most of them were poorly processed or cooked compared to that of the continent of the peninsula.

  • Microearthquake records with magnitude 2.6~3.1 recorded in the southeastern part of the Korean peninsula during 1994~1998 are analyzed. Total of 42 records consisted of 12 events instrumented at 7 stations. The response spectra with the above data shows that the frequency range of the dominant response is about 10~25Hz and are compared with the standard response spectrum. The result implies that the characteristics of the microearthquake ground motion differ from those of standard response spectrum presented in US NRC Reg. Guide 1.60 especially at higher frequencies.

  • The KOMPSAT system incorporates multiple missions designed to provide various applications in the field of Korean peninsula observation covering land, sea and coastal zones. The missions are Korea cartography (1:25,000 scale maps of the Korean peninsula), biological oceanography and science instrument accommodation. The operational availability of KOMPSAT TTC system should be predicted more accurately because its failure has a significant influence on satellite command and tracking and on satellite data collection. In this paper, system availability structure of KOMPSAT TTC system are made and availability of KOMPSAT TTC system is analyzed aspect to the system operation in accordance with logistic condition.

  • The objective of the study is to develop attenuation equations of groud motions in the southern part of the Korean Peninsula. The earthquake source characteristics and the medium properties were estimated from available instrumental earthquake records and used as input parameters. The peak ground accelerations (PGA) and pseudo-velocty response spectra(PSV) were simulated by the random vibration theory. The attenuation equations for the PGA were constructed in terms of local magnitudes and hypocentral distances.
